Cover Story: Variation in the transcriptional activity of DNA fibres has been hypothesized to promote their self-organization in the cell's nucleus. We model the activity as stronger-than-thermal fluctuations and study the non-equilibrium phase separation of active–passive polymer mixtures. Examining the non-equilibrium steady states reveals analogies with equilibrium phase-separated polymer mixtures. We point out interesting observations that indicate general principles behind the non-equilibrium phase transition. View this paper

The novel alloying concept of high-entropy alloys (HEAs) has been the focus of many recent investigations revealing an interesting combination of properties. Alloying with aluminium and titanium showed strong influence on microstructure and phase com...

Sets in the parameter space corresponding to complex exceptional points (EP) have high codimension, and by this reason, they are difficult objects for numerical location. However, complex EPs play an important role in the problems of the stability of...

Uncertainty is one of the main sources of risk of geological hazards in tunnel engineering. Uncertainty information not only affects the accuracy of evaluation results, but also affects the reliability of decision-making schemes. Therefore, it is nec...

We present a mean field model of a gel consisting of P polymers, each of length L and Nz polyfunctional monomers. Each polyfunctional monomer forms z covalent bonds with the 2P bifunctional monomers at the ends of the linear polymers. We find that th...

The characterization of quantum correlations, being stronger than classical, yet weaker than those appearing in non-signaling models, still poses many riddles. In this work, we show that the extent of binary correlations in a general class of nonloca...

Data transformation, e.g., feature transformation and selection, is an integral part of any machine learning procedure. In this paper, we introduce an information-theoretic model and tools to assess the quality of data transformations in machine lear...

We use maximal exponential models to characterize a suitable polar cone in a mathematical convex optimization framework. A financial application of this result is provided, leading to a duality minimax theorem related to portfolio exponential utility...
