Cover Story: Variation in the transcriptional activity of DNA fibres has been hypothesized to promote their self-organization in the cell's nucleus. We model the activity as stronger-than-thermal fluctuations and study the non-equilibrium phase separation of active–passive polymer mixtures. Examining the non-equilibrium steady states reveals analogies with equilibrium phase-separated polymer mixtures. We point out interesting observations that indicate general principles behind the non-equilibrium phase transition. View this paper

The VIolation of Pauli (VIP) experiment (and its upgraded version, VIP-2) uses the Ramberg and Snow (RS) method (Phys. Lett. B 1990, 238, 438) to search for violations of the Pauli exclusion principle in the Gran Sasso underground laboratory. The RS...

Matter-wave near-field interference can imprint a nano-scale fringe pattern onto a molecular beam, which allows observing its shifts in the presence of even very small external forces. Here we demonstrate quantum interference of the pre-vitamin 7-deh...

We use the definition of statistical symmetry as the invariance of a probability distribution under a given transformation and apply the concept to the underlying probability distribution of stochastic processes. To measure the degree of statistical...

Aiming to solve the problem of accurate diagnosis of the size and location of rolling bearing faults, a novel quantitative and localization fault diagnosis method of the rolling bearing is proposed based on the quantitative mapping model (QMM). The f...

Risk neutral measures are defined such that the basic random assets in a portfolio are martingales. Hence, when the market model is complete, valuation of other financial instruments is a relatively straightforward task when those basic random assets...

A conditional Gaussian framework for understanding and predicting complex multiscale nonlinear stochastic systems is developed. Despite the conditional Gaussianity, such systems are nevertheless highly nonlinear and are able to capture the non-Gaussi...

Maturation and ageing, which can be characterised by the dynamic changes in brain morphology, can have an impact on the physiology of the brain. As such, it is possible that these changes can have an impact on the magnetic activity of the brain recor...
