Dear Colleagues,
Modern agriculture relies heavily on the use of pesticides to protect crops. It is extremely important to prevent yield losses as the global demand for food is rapidly increasing while the number of farmable lands is constantly shrinking due to the decline in soil quality, urbanization, and changes in global climate. At the same time, pest pressure is rising as more than 600 species of pests have already developed resistance to commonly used pesticides such as imidazolinones, sulfonylureas, and triazolopyrimidines that are routinely used in agriculture to protect crops. The combination of all these factors creates a void in available pest management options and generates a strong need for the development of a next generation of pesticides by investigating unique modes of actions and feedstock material. Novel pesticides with lower toxicity to non-target species and lesser burden on ecosystem health are needed to assure the sustainability of agriculture.
The Special Issue will focus on novel and groundbreaking research in the area of pesticides with novel mechanisms of action and feedstock sources. We welcome original research and comprehensive reviews that cover related subjects, including but not limiting to bench scale studies, bioassays, isolation and analytical analysis, modeling, greenhouse and field trials, as well as the social aspect of novel pesticide use.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Agronomy is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
