Microbial Carbohydrates for Biotechnology

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue is related to the microbial carbohydrates for biotechnology, which includes a variety of applications using the polysaccharides or cyclooligosacahrides produced by microorganisms in nature.

Microorganisms produce various kinds of functional carbohydrates, such as exopolysaccharides (EPS), capsular polysaccharides (CPS), lipopolysaccharides (LPS) and intracellular/periplasmic saccharides, including chitin, chitosan, cellulose, alteran, xylan, xanthan, dextran, hyaluronic acid, succinoglycan, alginate, cyclosophoraose and cyclodextrin, which have tremendous potential for biotechnology in the fields of biochemical engineering, agriculture, pharmaceutics and biomedicine. Microbial carbohydrates as eco-friendly biopolymeric materials have been extensively used for various applications such as drug delivery, hydrogel scaffolds for regenerative medicine, (physical/chemical/biological) property-enhancers by molecular complexation. 

Participants of this Special Issue, as well as all researchers working in the field, are cordially invited to contribute original research papers or reviews to this Special Issue of Molecules, which report on the topics including both microbial polysaccharide engineering based on eco-friendly polymeric biomaterials for pharmaceutical and biomedical applications and host-guest complex engineering for guest property (solubility, stability, bioavailability) enhancing technology.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Molecules is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
