With the large-scale integration of high-penetration distributed photovoltaic (DPV) into distribution networks, its output volatility and reverse power flow characteristics are prone to causing voltage violations, necessitating the accurate identification of weak nodes to enhance operational reliability. This paper investigates the definition, quantification criteria, and multi-indicator comprehensive determination methods for weak nodes in distribution networks. A multi-criteria assessment method integrating voltage deviation rate, sensitivity analysis, and power margin has been proposed. This method quantifies the node disturbance resistance and comprehensively evaluates the vulnerability of voltage stability. Simulation validation based on the IEEE 33-node system demonstrates that the proposed method can effectively identify the distribution patterns of weak nodes under different penetration levels (20~80%) and varying numbers of DPV access points (single-point to multi-point distributed access scenarios). The study reveals the impact of increased penetration and dispersed access locations on the migration characteristics of weak nodes. The research findings provide a theoretical basis for the planning of distribution networks with high-penetration DPV, offering valuable insights for optimizing the siting of volatile loads such as electric vehicle (EV) charging stations while considering both grid safety and the demand for distributed energy accommodation. Flexible energy sources such as electric vehicles and the battery energy storage systems of intelligent distribution systems can provide system-wide auxiliary services such as frequency regulation for power systems. This paper proposes an optimal method for operating the local energy community that is based on two-stage scheduling. Firstly, the basic concepts of the local energy community and flexible service are introduced in detail. Taking LEC as the reserve unit of artificial frequency recovery, an energy information interaction model among LEC, balance service providers, and the power grid is established. Then, a two-stage scheduling framework is proposed to ensure the rationality and economy of community energy scheduling. In the first stage, day-ahead scheduling uses the energy community management center to predict the up/down flexibility capacity that LEC can provide by adjusting the BESS control parameters. In the second stage, real-time scheduling aims at maximizing community profits and scheduling LEC based on the allocation and activation of standby flexibility determined in real time. Finally, the correctness of the two-stage scheduling framework is verified through a case study. The results show that the control parameters used in the day-ahead stage can significantly affect the real-time profitability of LEC, and that LEC benefits more in the case of low BESS utilization than in the case of high BESS utilization and non-participation in frequency recovery reserve. This paper introduces a reverse demand response scheme that uses electric vehicles in an isolated microgrid system, aiming to solve the renewable energy curtailment issue. We focus on an off-grid system where the system operator faces a stabilization problem due to surplus energy production, while electric vehicles seek to charge energy at a lower price. In our system model, the operator determines the incentive to encourage more charging facilities and electric vehicles to participate in the reverse demand response program. Charging facilities, acting as brokers, use a portion of these incentives to further encourage electric vehicle engagement. Electric vehicles follow the decisions made by the broker and system operator to determine their charging strategy within the system. Consequently, charging energy and incentives are allocated to the electric vehicles in proportion to their decisions. The paper investigates the economic benefits of individual participants and the contribution of power stabilization by implementing a hierarchical decision-making heterogeneous multi-leaders multi-followers Stackelberg game. By demonstrating the existence of a unique Nash Equilibrium, we show the effectiveness of the proposed model in an isolated microgrid environment. Full article

Petrochemical complexes are spatially expansive and host diverse emission sources, making accurate monitoring of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) challenging using conventional two-dimensional methods. This study introduces Mobile-extraction Differential Optical Absorption Spectroscopy (Me-DOAS), a real-time, three-dimensional remote sensing technique for assessing benzene emissions in the Ulsan petrochemical complex, South Korea. A vehicle-mounted Me-DOAS system conducted monthly measurements throughout 2024, capturing data during four daily intervals to evaluate diurnal variation. Routes included perimeter loops and grid-based transects within core industrial zones. The highest benzene concentrations were observed in February (mean: 64.28 ± 194.69 µg/m3; geometric mean: 5.13 µg/m3), with exceedances of the national annual standard (5 µg/m3) in several months. Notably, nighttime and early morning sessions showed elevated levels, suggesting contributions from nocturnal operations and meteorological conditions such as atmospheric inversion. A total of 179 exceedances (≥30 µg/m3) were identified, predominantly in zones with benzene-handling activities. Correlation analysis revealed a significant relationship between high concentrations and specific emission sources. These results demonstrate the utility of Me-DOAS in capturing spatiotemporal emission dynamics and support its application in exposure risk assessment and industrial emission control. The findings provide a robust framework for targeted management strategies and call for integration with source apportionment and dispersion modeling tools. Full article

The energy generated from renewable sources has an intermittent nature since solar irradiation and wind speed vary continuously. Hence, their energy should be stored to be utilized throughout their shortage. There are various forms of energy storage systems while the most widespread technique is the battery storage system since its cost is low compared to other techniques. Therefore, batteries are employed in several applications like power systems, electric vehicles, and smart grids. Due to the merits of the lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery, it is preferred over other kinds of batteries. However, the accuracy of the Li-ion battery model is essential for estimating the state of charge (SOC). Additionally, it is essential for consistent simulation and operation throughout various loading and charging conditions. Consequently, the determination of real battery model parameters is vital. An innovative application of the red-billed blue magpie optimizer (RBMO) for determining the model parameters and the SOC of the Li-ion battery is presented in this article. The Shepherd model parameters are determined using the suggested optimization algorithm. The RBMO-based modeling approach offers excellent execution in determining the parameters of the battery model. The suggested approach is compared to other programmed algorithms, namely dandelion optimizer, spider wasp optimizer, barnacles mating optimizer, and interior search algorithm. Moreover, the suggested RBMO is statistically evaluated using Kruskal–Wallis, ANOVA tables, Friedman rank, and Wilcoxon rank tests. Additionally, the Li-ion battery model estimated via the RBMO is validated under variable loading conditions. The fetched results revealed that the suggested approach achieved the least errors between the measured and estimated voltages compared to other approaches in two studied cases with values of 1.4951 × 10−4 and 2.66176 × 10−4. Boda boda motorbike taxis are a primary mode of transport in Nairobi, Kenya, and a major source of urban air pollution. This study investigates the environmental and electrical grid impacts of electrifying Nairobi’s boda boda fleet. Using real-world tracking data from 118 motorbikes, we simulated the effects of a full-scale transition from internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles to electric motorbikes. We analysed various scenarios, including different battery charging strategies (swapping and home charging), motor efficiencies, battery capacities, charging rates, and the potential for solar power offsetting. The results indicate that electrification could reduce daily CO2 emissions by approximately 85% and eliminate tailpipe particulate matter emissions. However, transitioning the entire country’s fleet would increase the national daily energy demand by up to 6.85 GWh and could introduce peak grid loads as high as 2.40 GW, depending on the charging approach and vehicle efficiency. Battery swapping was found to distribute the grid load more evenly and better complement solar power integration compared to home charging, which concentrates demand in the evening. This research provides a scalable, data-driven framework for policymakers to assess the impacts of transport electrification in similar urban contexts, highlighting the critical trade-offs between environmental benefits and grid infrastructure requirements. Background: To address the uncertainties of renewable energy power generation, the disorderly charging characteristics of electric vehicles, and the high electricity cost of the power grid in expressway service areas, a method of economic dispatch optimization based on the improved particle swarm optimization algorithm is proposed in this study. Methods: Mathematical models of photovoltaic power generation, energy storage systems, and electric vehicles were established, thereby constructing the microgrid system model of the power load in the expressway service area. Taking the economic cost of electricity consumption in the service area as the objective function and simultaneously meeting constraints such as power balance, power grid interactions, and energy storage systems, a microgrid economy dispatch model is constructed. An improved particle swarm optimization algorithm with time-varying parameters of the inertia weight and learning factor was designed to solve the optimal dispatching strategy. The inertia weight was improved by adopting the Gaussian decreasing method, and the asymmetric dynamic learning factor was adjusted simultaneously. Findings: Field case studies demonstrate that, compared to other algorithms, the improved Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm effectively reduces the operational costs of microgrid systems while exhibiting accelerated convergence speed and enhanced robustness. Value: This study provides a theoretical mathematical reference for the economic dispatch optimization of microgrids in renewable-integrated transportation systems. Full article

This study evaluates the feasibility and visibility of electric vehicles (EVs) in Egypt, addressing critical research gaps and proposing actionable strategies to drive adoption. Employing a systematic review of academic, governmental, and industry sources, the paper identifies underexplored areas such as rural–urban adoption disparities, lifecycle assessments of EV batteries, and sociocultural barriers, including gender dynamics and entrenched consumer preferences. Its primary contribution is an interdisciplinary framework that integrates technical aspects, such as grid resilience and climate-related battery degradation, with socioeconomic dimensions, providing a holistic overview of EV feasibility in Egypt tailored to Egypt’s context. Key findings reveal infrastructure limitations, inconsistent policy frameworks, and behavioral skepticism as major hurdles, and highlight the untapped potential of renewable energy integration, particularly through synergies between solar PV generation (e.g., Benban Solar Park) and EV charging infrastructure. Recommendations prioritize policy reforms (e.g., tax incentives, streamlined tariffs), solar-powered charging infrastructure expansion, public awareness campaigns, and local EV manufacturing to stimulate economic growth. The study underscores the urgency of stakeholder collaboration to transform EVs into a mainstream solution, positioning Egypt as a regional leader in sustainable mobility and equitable development. The rapid electrification of transportation and the proliferation of rooftop solar photovoltaics (PVs) in urban environments are reshaping the operational dynamics of power distribution networks. However, the inherent uncertainty in electric vehicle (EV) behavior—including arrival times, charging preferences, and state-of-charge—as well as spatially and temporally variable solar generation, presents a profound challenge to existing scheduling frameworks. This paper proposes a novel data-driven distributionally robust optimization (DDRO) framework for solar-powered EV charging coordination under spatiotemporal uncertainty. Leveraging empirical datasets of EV usage and solar irradiance from a smart city deployment, the framework constructs Wasserstein ambiguity sets around historical distributions, enabling worst-case-aware decision-making without requiring the assumption of probability laws. The problem is formulated as a two-stage optimization model. The first stage determines day-ahead charging schedules, solar utilization levels, and grid allocations across an urban-scale distribution feeder. The second stage models real-time recourse actions—such as dynamic curtailment or demand reshaping—after uncertainties are realized. Physical grid constraints are modeled using convexified LinDistFlow equations, while EV behavior is segmented into user classes with individualized uncertainty structures. The model is evaluated on a modified IEEE 123-bus feeder with 52 EV-PV nodes, using 15 min resolution over a 24 h horizon and 12 months of real-world data. Comparative results demonstrate that the proposed DDRO method reduces total operational costs by up to 15%, eliminates voltage violations entirely, and improves EV service satisfaction by more than 30% relative to deterministic and stochastic baselines. This work makes three primary contributions: it introduces a robust, tractable optimization architecture that captures spatiotemporal uncertainty using empirical Wasserstein sets; it integrates behavioral and physical modeling within a unified dispatch framework for urban energy-mobility systems; and it demonstrates the value of robust coordination in simultaneously improving grid resilience, renewable utilization, and EV user satisfaction. The results offer practical insights for city-scale planners seeking to enable the reliable and efficient electrification of mobility infrastructure under uncertainty. Full article

In modern vehicles, Autonomous Driving Systems (ADSs) are designed to operate partially or fully without human intervention. The ADS pipeline comprises multiple layers, including sensors, perception, localization, mapping, path planning, and control. The Robot Operating System (ROS) is a widely adopted framework that supports the modular development and integration of these layers. Among them, the path-planning and control layers remain particularly challenging due to several limitations. Classical path planners often struggle with non-smooth trajectories and high computational demands. Meta-heuristic optimization algorithms have demonstrated strong theoretical potential in path planning; however, they are rarely implemented in real-time ROS-based systems due to integration challenges. Similarly, traditional PID controllers require manual tuning and are unable to adapt to system disturbances. This paper proposes a ROS-based ADS architecture composed of eight integrated nodes, designed to address these limitations. The path-planning node leverages a meta-heuristic optimization framework with a cost function that evaluates path feasibility using occupancy grids from the Hector SLAM and obstacle clusters detected through the DBSCAN algorithm. A dynamic goal-allocation strategy is introduced based on the LiDAR range and spatial boundaries to enhance planning flexibility. In the control layer, a modified Pure Pursuit algorithm is employed to translate target positions into velocity commands based on the drift angle. Additionally, an adaptive PID controller is tuned in real time using the Differential Evolution (DE) algorithm, ensuring robust speed regulation in the presence of external disturbances. The proposed system is practically validated on a four-wheel differential drive robot across six scenarios. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed planner significantly outperforms state-of-the-art methods, ranking first in the Friedman test with a significance level less than 0.05, confirming the effectiveness of the proposed architecture. LCL (inductor–capacitor–inductor) filters are widely used in grid-connected inverters, particularly in electric vehicle (EV) battery-to-grid systems, for harmonic suppression but introduce resonance issues that compromise stability. This study presents a novel sensorless active damping strategy based on μ-synthesis control for EV batteries connected to the grid via LCL filters, eliminating the need for additional current sensors while preserving harmonic attenuation. A comprehensive state–space and process noise model enables accurate capacitor current estimation using only grid current and point-of-common-coupling (PCC) voltage measurements. The proposed method maintains robust performance under ±60% LCL parameter variations and integrates a proportional-resonant (PR) current controller for resonance suppression. Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) validation demonstrates enhanced stability in dynamic grid conditions, with total harmonic distortion (THD) below 5% (IEEE 1547-compliant) and current tracking error < 0.06 A. To meet the requirements of the high spatiotemporal three-dimensional (3D) airflow field within the glide path corridor during carrier-based aircraft/unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) landings, this paper proposes a prediction method for high spatiotemporal resolution 3D ship airwake along the glide path by integrating computational fluid dynamics (CFD), backpropagation (BP) neural network, and Doppler wind lidar (DWL). Firstly, taking the conceptual design aircraft carrier model as the research object, CFD numerical simulations of the ship airwake within the glide path region are carried out using the Poly-Hexcore grid and the detached eddy simulation (DES)/the Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) turbulence models. Then, using the high spatial resolution ship airwake along the glide path obtained from steady RANS computations under different inflow conditions as a sample dataset, the BP neural network prediction models were trained and optimized. Along the ideal glide path within 200 m behind the stern, the correlation coefficients between the predicted results of the BP neural network and the headwind, crosswind, and vertical wind of the testing samples exceeded 0.95, 0.91, and 0.82, respectively. Finally, using the inflow speed and direction with high temporal resolution from the bow direction obtained by the shipborne DWL as input, the BP prediction models can achieve accurate prediction of the 3D ship airwake along the glide path with high spatiotemporal resolution (3 m, 3 Hz). The icebreaking process of water-exiting vehicles involves complex nonlinear interactions as well as multi-physical field coupling effects among ice, solids, and fluids, which poses enormous challenges for numerical calculations. Addressing the low solution accuracy of traditional grid methods in simulating large deformation and destruction of ice layers, a numerical model was established based on the FEM-SPH-SALE coupling algorithm to study the dynamic characteristics of the water-exiting vehicle on the icebreaking process. The FEM-SPH adaptive algorithm was used to simulate the damage performance of ice, and its feasibility was verified through the four-point bending test and vehicle breaking ice experiment. The S-ALE algorithm was used to simulate the process of fluid/structure interaction, and its accuracy was verified through the wedge-body water-entry test and simulation. On this basis, numerical simulations were performed for different ice thicknesses and initial velocities of vehicles. The results show that the motion characteristics of the vehicle undergoes a sudden change during the ice-breaking. The head and middle section of the vehicle are subject to greater stress, which is related to the transmission of stress waves and inertial effect. The velocity loss rate of the vehicle and the maximum stress increase with the thickness of ice. The higher the initial velocity of the vehicle, the larger the acceleration and maximum stress in the process of the vehicle breaking ice. The acceleration peak is sensitive to the variation in the vehicle’s initial velocity but insensitive to the thickness of the ice. Full article

To address the challenges posed by the instability of renewable energy output and load fluctuations on grid operations and to support the low-carbon sustainable development of the energy system, this paper integrates artificial intelligence technology to establish an economic stability dispatch framework for distributed resource aggregators. A phased multi-contract collaborative scheduling model oriented toward sustainable development is proposed. Through intelligent algorithms, the model dynamically optimises decisions across the day-ahead and intraday phases: During the day-ahead scheduling phase, intelligent algorithms predict load demand and energy output, and combine with elastic performance-based response contracts to construct a user-side electricity consumption behaviour intelligent control model. Under the premise of ensuring user comfort, the model generates a 24 h scheduling plan with the objectives of minimising operational costs and efficiently integrating renewable energy. In the intraday scheduling phase, a rolling optimisation mechanism is used to activate energy storage capacity contracts and dynamic frequency stability contracts in real time based on day-ahead prediction deviations. This efficiently coordinates the intelligent frequency regulation strategies of energy storage devices and electric vehicle aggregators to quickly mitigate power fluctuations and achieve coordinated control of primary and secondary frequency regulation. Case study results indicate that the intelligent optimisation-driven multi-contract scheduling model significantly improves system operational efficiency and stability, reduces system operational costs by 30.49%, and decreases power purchase fluctuations by 12.41%, providing a feasible path for constructing a low-carbon, resilient grid under high renewable energy penetration. Enabling Smart Grid Resilience with Deep Learning-Based Battery Health Prediction in EV Fleets

The widespread integration of electric vehicles (EVs) into smart grid infrastructures necessitates intelligent and robust battery health diagnostics to ensure system resilience and performance longevity. While numerous studies have addressed the estimation of State of Health (SOH) and the prediction of remaining useful life (RUL) using machine and deep learning, most existing models fail to capture both short-term degradation trends and long-range contextual dependencies jointly. In this study, we introduce V2G-HealthNet, a novel hybrid deep learning framework that uniquely combines Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks with Transformer-based attention mechanisms to model battery degradation under dynamic vehicle-to-grid (V2G) scenarios. Unlike prior approaches that treat SOH estimation in isolation, our method directly links health prediction to operational decisions by enabling SOH-informed adaptive load scheduling and predictive maintenance across EV fleets. Trained on over 3400 proxy charge-discharge cycles derived from 1 million telemetry samples, V2G-HealthNet achieved state-of-the-art performance (SOH RMSE: 0.015, MAE: 0.012, R2: 0.97), outperforming leading baselines including XGBoost and Random Forest. For RUL prediction, the model maintained an MAE of 0.42 cycles over a five-cycle horizon. Importantly, deployment simulations revealed that V2G-HealthNet triggered maintenance alerts at least three cycles ahead of critical degradation thresholds and redistributed high-load tasks away from ageing batteries—capabilities not demonstrated in previous works. These findings establish V2G-HealthNet as a deployable, health-aware control layer for smart city electrification strategies. Full article
