Based on the panel data of daily meteorological stations and winter wheat yield in Henan Province from 2000 to 2023, this study comprehensively used the Mann–Kendall trend test, wavelet coherence analysis (WTC), and other methods to reveal the temporal and spatial evolution of extreme precipitation and its multi-scale stress mechanism on grain yield. The results showed the following: (1) Extreme precipitation showed the characteristics of ‘frequent fluctuation-gentle trend-strong spatial heterogeneity’, and the maximum daily precipitation in spring (RX1DAY) showed a significant uplift. The increase in rainstorm events (R95p/R99p) in the southern region during the summer is particularly prominent; at the same time, the number of consecutive drought days (CDDs > 15 d) in the middle of autumn was significantly prolonged. It was also found that 2010 is a significant mutation node. Since then, the synergistic effect of ‘increasing drought days–increasing rainstorm frequency’ has begun to appear, and the short-period coherence of super-strong precipitation (R99p) has risen to more than 0.8. (2) The spatial pattern of winter wheat in Henan is characterized by the three-level differentiation of ‘stable core area, sensitive transition zone and shrinking suburban area’, and the stability of winter wheat has improved but there are still local risks. (3) There is a multi-scale stress mechanism of extreme precipitation on winter wheat yield. The long-period (4–8 years) drought and flood events drive the system risk through a 1–2-year lag effect (short-period (0.5–2 years) medium rainstorm intensity directly impacted the production system). This study proposes a ‘sub-scale governance’ strategy, using a 1–2-year lag window to establish a rainstorm warning mechanism, and optimizing drainage facilities for high-risk areas of floods in the south to improve the climate resilience of the agricultural system against the background of climate change. Influence of Heat Treatment on Precipitate and Microstructure of 38CrMoAl Steel

To address the central cracking problem in continuous casting slabs of 38CrMoAl steel, high-temperature tensile tests were performed using a Gleeble-3800 thermal simulator to characterize the hot ductility of the steel within the temperature range of 600–1200 °C. The phase transformation behavior was computationally analyzed via the Thermo-Calc software, while the microstructure, fracture morphology, and precipitate characteristics were systematically investigated using a metallographic microscope (MM), a field-emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Additionally, the effects of different holding times and cooling rates on the microstructure and precipitates of 38CrMoAl steel were also studied. The results show that the third brittle temperature region of 38CrMoAl steel is 645–1009 °C, and the fracture mechanisms can be classified into three types: (I) in the α single-phase region, the thickness of intergranular proeutectoid ferrite increases with rising temperature, leading to reduced hot ductility; (II) in the γ single-phase region, the average size of precipitates increases while the number density decreases with increasing temperature, thereby improving hot ductility; and (III) in the α + γ two-phase region, the precipitation of proeutectoid ferrite promotes crack propagation and the dense distribution of precipitates at grain boundaries causes stress concentration, further deteriorating hot ductility. Heat treatment experiments indicate that the microstructures of the specimen transformed under water cooling, air cooling, and furnace cooling conditions as follows: martensite + proeutectoid ferrite → bainite + ferrite → ferrite. The average size of precipitates first decreased, then increased, and finally decreased again with increasing holding time, while the number density exhibited the opposite trend. Therefore, when the holding time was the same, reducing the cooling rate could increase the average size of the precipitates and decrease their number density, thereby improving the hot ductility of 38CrMoAl steel. Understanding the environmental drivers of radial growth in the Pinus massoniana (lamb.) is essential for improving forest productivity and carbon sequestration in subtropical ecosystems. This study used the basal area increment (BAI) as an indicator of radial growth to investigate the main factors affecting the radial growth rate of P. massoniana and the changes in BAI with these factors. A total of 58 high quality tree ring series were analyzed. Six common methods were used to comprehensively analyze the importance of nine factor variables on the BAI, including tree age, competition index, average temperature, and so on. Generalized additive models (GAMs) were developed to explore the nonlinear relationships between each selected variable and the BAI. The results revealed the following: (1) Age and Competition Index was identified as the primary driving force; (2) BAI increased with Age when tree age was below 69 years; (3) from the overall trend, the BAI of P. massoniana decreased with the increase in the Competition Index. These findings provide a scientific basis for developing management plans for P. massoniana forests. Full article

Background/Objectives: Mumps remains a relevant vaccine-preventable disease globally, especially in settings where immunization coverage fluctuates or vaccine-induced immunity wanes. This study aimed to assess long-term trends in mumps incidence, vaccination coverage, clinical outcomes, and demographic characteristics in the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina (AP Vojvodina), Serbia, over a 47-year period. Methods: We conducted a retrospective observational study using surveillance data from the Institute of Public Health of Vojvodina. Analyses included annual mumps incidence rates (1978–2024), coverage with mumps-containing vaccines (MuCVs; 1986–2024), monthly case counts, and individual-level case data for the 1997–2024 period. Variables analyzed included age, month of notification, gender, vaccination status, presence of clinical complications, and the method used for case confirmation. Results: Following the introduction of MuCV in 1986, the mumps incidence markedly declined, with limited resurgences in 2000, 2009, and 2012. Between 1997 and 2024, a total of 1358 cases were reported, with 62.7% occurring in males. Over time, the age distribution shifted, with adolescents and young adults being increasingly affected during the later (2011–2024) observed period. In 2012, the highest age-specific incidence was observed among individuals aged 10–19 and 20–39 years (49.1 and 45.5 per 100,000, respectively). Vaccination coverage for both MuCV doses was suboptimal in several years. The proportion of unvaccinated cases decreased over time, while the proportion with unknown vaccination status increased. Mumps-related complications—such as orchitis, pancreatitis, and meningitis—were rare and predominantly affected unvaccinated individuals: 84.2% of orchitis, 40.0% of pancreatitis, and all meningitis cases. Only two pancreatitis cases (40.0%) were reported after one MMR dose, while fully vaccinated individuals (two doses) had one orchitis case (5.3%) and no other complications. Laboratory confirmation was applied more consistently from 2009 onward, with 49.6% of cases confirmed that year (58 out of 117), and, in several years after 2020, only laboratory-confirmed cases were reported, indicating improved diagnostic capacity. Conclusions: Despite substantial progress in controlling mumps, gaps in vaccine coverage, waning immunity, and incomplete vaccination records continue to pose a risk for mumps transmission. Strengthening routine immunization, ensuring high two-dose MuCV coverage, improving vaccination record keeping, and enhancing laboratory-based case confirmation are critical. Consideration should be given to booster doses in high-risk populations and to conducting a seroepidemiological study to estimate the susceptible population for mumps in AP Vojvodina. Full article

Wildfire and drought are key drivers of shrubland expansion in southwestern US landscapes. Stand-replacing fires in conifer forests induce shrub-dominated stages, and changing climatic patterns may cause a long-term shift to deciduous shrubland. We assessed change in deciduous fractional shrub cover (DFSC) in the eastern Jemez Mountains from 2019 to 2023 using topographic and Sentinel-2 satellite data and evaluated the impact of spatial scale on model performance. First, we built a 10 m and a 20 m random forest model. The 20 m model outperformed the 10 m model, achieving an R-squared value of 0.82 and an RMSE of 7.85, compared to the 10 m model (0.76 and 9.99, respectively). We projected the 20 m model to the other years of the study using imagery from the respective years, yielding yearly DFSC predictions. DFSC decreased from 2019 to 2022, coinciding with severe drought and a 2022 fire, followed by an increase in 2023, particularly within the 2022 fire footprint. Overall, DFSC trends showed an increase, with elevation being a key variable influencing these trends. This framework revealed vegetation dynamics in a semi-arid system and provided a close look at post-fire regeneration in deciduous resprouting shrubs and could be applied to similar systems. This study investigated the evolving trends, current research hotspots, and future directions of radiotherapy combined with nanobiomaterials through a bibliometric analysis. Publications related to nanobiomaterials used in radiotherapy between 2004 and 2024 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database and analyzed using VOSviewer, R, and CiteSpace. China emerged as the leading contributor, accounting for 1051 publications (50.41%), followed by the USA. Liu Zhuang is the most productive author in this field. American Chemical Society (ACS) Nano published the most influential articles and accumulated the highest number of citations. Advanced Targeted Therapies in Cancer: Drug Nanocarriers, the Future of Chemotherapy was the most cited, with 1255 citations. Citation bursts have revealed emerging research trends in targeted delivery, cellular studies, co-delivery strategies, immunogenic cell death, polymeric nanoparticles, tumor research, and drug delivery systems, indicating potential avenues for future research. Over the past two decades, nanomaterials for radiotherapy have gained substantial attention. Key areas of focus include enhancing the efficacy of radiotherapy, achieving targeted drug delivery, minimizing adverse effects, and integrating nanomaterials with other therapeutic modalities. Future investigations are expected to improve the precision of radiotherapy, augment radiation effects, and optimize the tumor microenvironment. Full article

This study investigated white wastewater (WW) as a potential source of antimicrobial peptides, employing hydrolysis with Pronase E followed by separation through electrodialysis with ultrafiltration membranes (EDUF) to increase the value of dairy components within a circular economy framework. The WW hydrolysate was divided into two key fractions: the cationic recovery compartment (CRC) and the anionic recovery compartment (ARC). The EDUF process effectively separated peptides, with peptide migration rates reaching 6.83 ± 0.59 g/m2·h for CRC and 6.19 ± 0.66 g/m2·h for ARC. Furthermore, relative energy consumption (REC) increased from 1.15 Wh/g to 2.05 Wh/g over three hours, in line with trends observed in recent studies on electrodialysis energy use. Although 29 peptides were statistically selected from the CRC (20) and ARC (9) compartments, no antibacterial activity was exhibited against Clostridium tyrobutyricum and Pseudomonas aeruginosa; however, antifungal activity was observed in the feed and ARC compartments. Peptides from the ARC demonstrated activity against Mucor racemosus (MIC = 0.156 mg/mL) and showed selective antifungal effects against Penicillium commune (MIC = 0.156 mg/mL). This innovative approach paves the way for improving the recovery of anionic peptides through further optimization of the EDUF process. Future perspectives include synthesizing selected peptides and evaluating their antifungal efficacy against these and other microbial strains, offering exciting potential for applications in food preservation and beyond. In tunnel blasting, an analytical solution for dynamic stress in the surrounding rock of adjacent tunnels is critical for dynamic response analysis, mechanical evaluations, and crack propagation control. Previous studies on stress field analytical solutions primarily modeled rock as a linear elastic material, focusing mainly on the P-wave effects from instantaneous detonation. Based on Heelan’s short cylindrical cavity model, this paper derives an analytical solution for blast-induced dynamic stresses in adjacent tunnel rock, incorporating both induced SV-waves and a rock mass damage factor through rigorous theoretical analysis. Numerical case studies and field measurements were used to analyze stress propagation during tunnel blasting, and theoretical results were compared with measured data. The key findings were as follows: Radial stress > axial stress > hoop stress. All three stresses decay with increasing distance and damage factor, following an inversely proportional relationship with distance. Radial stress decays faster than axial and hoop stresses. Stress also decays exponentially over time, with the peak occurring after the transverse wave arrival. The theoretical results show approximately 10% deviation from the existing empirical formulas, while field measurements closely match the theoretical model, showing consistent stress trends and an average error of 7.02% (radial), 7.56% (axial) and 7.05% (hoop), confirming the reliability of the proposed analytical solution. Improving the ecological resilience in the Yellow River Basin is a crucial way to achieve ecological conservation and high-quality development in the region. Based on the panel data from 2011 to 2023 of 57 cities in the Yellow River Basin, the ecological resilience of each city was measured by using the Catastrophe Progression Model, and its spatial differences and dynamic evolution characteristics were analyzed by the Dagum Gini coefficient and kernel density estimation. At the same time, the STIRPAT model was integrated with the random forest model to identify the key factors influencing urban ecological resilience. The results demonstrated the following: (1) The urban ecological resilience in the Yellow River Basin exhibited a slight upward trend during 2011–2020 and presented a gradient spatial pattern with “high in the east and low in the west”. (2) Hypervariation density is the main source of spatial difference in urban ecological resilience, with trailing and polarization phenomena across the entire basin and its three major subregions. (3) There was significant regional heterogeneity of influences in the urban ecological resilience, with upstream, midstream, and downstream regions characterized by low interference intensity, high sensitivity, and strong adaptability, respectively. This study evaluates the relationship between preoperative cartilage quality, measured by T2 mapping, and patient-reported outcomes following labral tear treatment. We retrospectively reviewed patients aged 14–50 who underwent primary hip arthroscopy with either labral repair or reconstruction. Preoperative T2 values of femoral, acetabular, and labral tissue were assessed from MRI by blinded reviewers. International Hip Outcome Tool (iHOT-12) scores were collected preoperatively and up to two years postoperatively. Associations between T2 values and iHOT-12 scores were analyzed using univariate mixed linear models. Twenty-nine patients were included (mean age of 32.5 years, BMI 24 kg/m2, 48.3% female, and 22 repairs). Across all patients, higher T2 values were associated with higher iHOT-12 scores at baseline and early postoperative timepoints (three months for cartilage and six months for labrum; p < 0.05). Lower T2 values were associated with higher 12- and 24-month iHOT-12 scores across all structures (p < 0.001). Similar trends were observed within the repair and reconstruction subgroups, with delayed negative associations correlating with worse tissue quality. T2 mapping showed time-dependent correlations with iHOT-12 scores, indicating that worse cartilage or labral quality predicts poorer long-term outcomes. These findings support the utility of T2 mapping as a preoperative tool for prognosis in hip preservation surgery. Full article

Metagenomic studies have provided deeper insights into the complex interactions between the skin and its microbiota. However, limited research has been conducted on the skin microbiota of Brazilian women. Given that Brazil ranks as the fourth-largest consumer of cosmetics worldwide, the development of new tools to analyze skin microbiota is crucial for formulating cosmetic products that promote a healthy microbiome. Skin samples were analyzed using the Illumina platform. Biometrology assessments were applied. The results showed pH variations were more pronounced in the older age group, along with higher transepidermal water loss values. Metagenomic analysis showed a predominance of Actinobacteria (83%), followed by Proteobacteria (7%), Firmicutes (9%) and Bacteroidetes (1%). In the older group (36–45 years old), an increase in Actinobacteria (87%) was observed and a decrease in Proteobacteria (6%). Moreover, the results differ from the international literature, since an increase in proteobacteria (13.9%) and a decrease in actinobacteria (46.7%) were observe in aged skin. The most abundant genus identified was Propionibacterium (84%), being the dominant species. Interestingly, previous studies have suggested a decline in Cutibacterium abundance with aging; although there is no significant difference, it is possible to observe an increasing trend in this genus in older skin. These studies can clarify many points about the skin microbiota of Brazilian women, and these findings could lead to the development of new cosmetics based on knowledge of the skin microbiome. Background/Objectives: The expansion of National Health Insurance (NHI) coverage for dental implants in South Korea has substantially increased implant placements among older adults. While implants offer functional and esthetic benefits, their lack of periodontal ligaments alters occlusal force distribution, potentially increasing biomechanical stress on adjacent or opposing teeth. This study aimed to investigate the association between the increased number of dental implants and the incidence of cracked teeth following the introduction of implant insurance. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted using the Clinical Data Warehouse of Seoul St. Mary’s Dental Hospital. Patients who underwent molar crown restorations between 2014 and 2022 were included. The incidence and clinical features of cracked teeth were compared before (2014–2015) and after (2016–2022) the introduction of implant insurance. Statistical analyses assessed differences in symptom presentation, pulp status, and treatment outcomes. Results: Among 5044 molars restored with crowns, 1692 were diagnosed with cracks. The incidence of cracked teeth significantly increased after NHI coverage for implants (25.5% vs. 32.6%, p < 0.001). Cases after insurance implementation showed fewer signs and symptoms at initial presentation (67.4% vs. 50.0%, p < 0.001), reduced irreversible pulpitis (37.2% vs. 25.8%, p < 0.001), and increased preservation of pulp vitality (46.9% vs. 57.8%, p < 0.001). These shifts may reflect changes in occlusal adjustment practices and earlier clinical intervention. Conclusions: The findings suggest a temporal link between increased implant placement and the rising incidence of cracked teeth. Implant-induced occlusal changes may contribute to this trend. Careful occlusal evaluation and follow-up are essential after implant placement, and further prospective studies are warranted to confirm causality and refine prevention strategies. Full article

This study analyzes spatiotemporal aridity dynamics in Central Kazakhstan (1960–2022) using a monthly Aridity Index (AI = P/PET), where P is precipitation and PET is potential evapotranspiration, Mann–Kendall trend analysis, and climate zone classification. Results reveal a northeast–southwest aridity gradient, with Aridity Index ranging from 0.11 to 0.14 in southern deserts to 0.43 in the Kazakh Uplands. Between 1960–1990 and 1991–2022, southern regions experienced intensified aridity, with Aridity Index declining from 0.12–0.15 to 0.10–0.14, while northern mountainous areas became more humid, where Aridity Index increased from 0.40–0.44 to 0.41–0.46. Seasonal analysis reveals divergent patterns, with winter showing improved moisture conditions (52.4% reduction in arid lands), contrasting sharply with aridification in spring and summer. Summer emerges as the most extreme season, with hyper-arid zones (8%) along with expanding arid territories (69%), while autumn shows intermediate conditions with notable dry sub-humid areas (5%) in northwestern regions. Statistical analysis confirms these observations, with northern areas showing positive Aridity Index trends (+0.007/10 years) against southwestern declines (−0.003/10 years). Key drivers include rising temperatures (with recent degradation) and variable precipitation (long-term drying followed by winter and spring), and PET fluctuations linked to temperature. Since 1991, arid zones have expanded from 40% to 47% of the region, with semi-arid lands transitioning to arid, with a northward shift of the boundary. These changes are strongly seasonal, highlighting the vulnerability of Central Kazakhstan to climate-driven aridification. Full article

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of nutritional education on nutritional knowledge, nutritional status, and quality of life in patients with liver cirrhosis. Methods: Thirty patients participated. At baseline, assessments were conducted to collect data on demographics, physical activity, anthropometric and biochemical measures, dietary habits, 24 h food intake, nutritional status, quality of life, and nutritional knowledge. Participants received a 30 min face-to-face nutritional education session by a registered dietitian, repeated after one month. A follow-up phone call was conducted one month later to reinforce the education. Final evaluations were completed one month after the call. Results: A significant upward trend was detected in nutritional knowledge scores after the intervention period (from 7.4 ± 2.76 to 9.2 ± 3.45). The physical component of quality of life improved, while the mental component showed a slight decline. Dietary changes included reduced energy and protein intake among females and increased protein intake in males. In both genders, fat intake increased and carbohydrate intake decreased. Biochemical improvements were observed, including significant reductions in gamma-glutamyl transferase, aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, and triglycerides in females and alanine aminotransferase and gamma-glutamyl transferase in males. Conclusions: Structured nutritional education may improve nutritional knowledge, dietary behavior, and biochemical markers in cirrhosis patients. Longer follow-up durations may further enhance these improvements. Full article

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has profoundly altered the clinical and microbiological landscape of respiratory tract infections (RTIs), potentially reshaping pathogen distribution and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) profiles across care settings. Objectives: The objective of this study was to assess temporal trends in respiratory bacterial pathogens, antimicrobial resistance, and polymicrobial infections across three pandemic phases—pre-COVID (2018–2019), COVID (2020–2022), and post-COVID (2022–2024)—in hospitalized and ambulatory patients. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 1827 respiratory bacterial isolates (hospitalized patients, n = 1032; ambulatory patients, n = 795) collected at a tertiary care center in Northern Italy. Data were stratified by care setting, anatomical site, and pandemic phase. Species identification and susceptibility testing followed EUCAST guidelines. Statistical analysis included chi-square and Fisher’s exact tests. Results: In hospitalized patients, a significant increase in Pseudomonas aeruginosa (from 45.5% pre-COVID to 58.6% post-COVID, p < 0.0001) and Acinetobacter baumannii (from 1.2% to 11.1% during COVID, p < 0.0001) was observed, with 100% extensively drug-resistant (XDR) rates for A. baumannii during the pandemic. Conversely, Staphylococcus aureus significantly declined from 23.6% pre-COVID to 13.7% post-COVID (p = 0.0012). In ambulatory patients, polymicrobial infections peaked at 41.2% during COVID, frequently involving co-isolation of Candida spp. Notably, resistance to benzylpenicillin in Streptococcus pneumoniae reached 80% (4/5 isolates) in hospitalized patients during COVID, and carbapenem-resistant P. aeruginosa (CRPA) significantly increased post-pandemic in ambulatory patients (0% pre-COVID vs. 23.5% post-COVID, p = 0.0014). Conclusions: The pandemic markedly shifted respiratory pathogen dynamics and resistance profiles, with distinct trends observed in hospital and community settings. Persistent resistance phenotypes and frequent polymicrobial infections, particularly involving Candida spp. in outpatients, underscore the need for targeted surveillance and antimicrobial stewardship strategies.
