Background: Diabetes mellitus remains one of the most extensively researched conditions in global health, with a rapidly growing body of literature addressing its prevention, management, and treatment. Characterising highly cited diabetes-related research helps identify research trends, shifts in scientific priorities, and factors associated with citation impact in diabetes research. Objective: This study aimed to perform a bibliometric analysis of the top 100 most-cited diabetes-related records published between 2011 and 2022, in order to describe major scientific contributions and citation patterns in this field. Methods: The search was conducted in April 2023 using the Web of Science Core Collection, Science Citation Index Expanded. Records containing the term “diabetes” were retrieved using the topic field and ranked according to total Web of Science citation count. The top 300 records were screened, and the 100 eligible diabetes-related records were selected for detailed analysis. Extracted data included title, citation count, citation density, PubMed Central (PMC) citations, patent citations, h-index, journal, year of publication, country of origin, study type, funding sources, and authorship patterns. Descriptive and correlational analyses were performed using IBM SPSS Statistics, version 27.0.1.0. Results: The 100 most-cited records accumulated 174,857 citations, with individual citation counts ranging from 832 to 5898. Most records were original research articles (68%), followed by reviews (27%). The most frequently represented journals were Diabetes Care (n = 21), New England Journal of Medicine (n = 20), and The Lancet (n = 9). The United States contributed 45% of the records. A strong positive correlation was observed between total Web of Science citations and PMC citations using both Pearson correlation (r = 0.863) and Spearman rank correlation (ρ = 0.834). The association between total citations and first-author h-index was weak and not statistically significant. Patent citation analysis showed that 41 records were cited in at least one patent. Most records acknowledged funding, with both public-sector and pharmaceutical funders represented among the most frequently reported sources. Conclusions: This study characterises highly cited diabetes-related research published from 2011 to 2022. The findings suggest that clinical trials, reviews, guidelines, collaborative research, patent citation activity, and publication in high-visibility journals were common features of highly cited diabetes-related records, although citation-based indicators should be interpreted with caution. Background/Objectives: Assessing respiratory mechanics is essential for detecting early airway abnormalities. The Forced Oscillation Technique (FOT) and Impulse Oscillometry (IOS) have gained increasing recognition as complementary, effort-independent tools used in both research and clinical practice. This study aimed to provide a novel, comprehensive bibliometric overview of global research trends, impact, and emerging themes in FOT/IOS research. Methods: A systematic search of English-language articles and review articles related to FOT/IOS was conducted in the Web of Science Core Collection to identify publications related to FOT and IOS. Data were analyzed using VOSviewer, Microsoft Excel, and Biblioshiny to examine publication trends, citation patterns, collaboration networks, keyword co-occurrence, and thematic evolution. In addition, manual data extraction was performed for the top 100 most-cited papers to describe their methodological, population, and technical characteristics. Results: A total of 1072 studies published between 1976 and 2025 were included after screening. Research activity increased markedly after 2005, peaking in 2022 and reflecting sustained growth over time. The United States and Australia were the leading contributing countries. Frequently occurring keywords, including “Asthma”, “Forced oscillation technique”, “Impulse oscillometry”, “Lung-function”, and “Spirometry”, emerged as major research themes. Thematic development over time revealed a transition from methodological and pediatric-focused themes to more clinically relevant and practical applications, highlighting the growing clinical significance of oscillometry. Conclusions: Global research on oscillometry has increased significantly over the past five decades, reflecting the growing recognition of FOT and IOS as complementary tools to conventional pulmonary function tests for small airway assessment. Future research directions include continued standardization, population-specific reference values, and the evaluation of oscillometry across diverse clinical settings. Full article

Background/Objectives: As the frequency and impact of global disasters intensify, the role of nursing in disaster management has become increasingly vital. Analyzing the evolution of disaster nursing research can inform preparedness strategies and enhance clinical responses. The aim of the study was to explore and visualize trends in research on disaster, disaster management, disaster nursing, and disaster preparedness from 1980 to 2024. Methods: A scientific mapping and performance analysis were conducted using Biblioshiny, VOSviewer, and Excel. The search strategy included the keywords ‘disaster’, ‘disaster management’, ‘disaster nursing’, ‘disaster preparedness’, ‘disaster training’, and ‘disaster care,’ searched across all fields in the Web of Science Core Collection database. A total of 1331 publications from a dataset of 21,703 articles were included in the analysis. Results: The most common keywords were “disaster”, “nursing”, “COVID-19”, and “emergency preparedness”. The USA led in research output, followed by Sichuan University as the top institution. Thearticle, “Disaster preparedness among nurses: a systematic review of literature”, was the most cited, with 216 citations. English was the predominant language, and most publications were articles. Conclusions: Research in disaster nursing, management, and preparedness has grown significantly, particularly since 2005, emphasizing the critical need for improved disaster education and response strategies. The role of pedestrian movement in urban environments is often overlooked, despite its critical importance in supporting effective city functioning and long-term sustainability. While there has been growing scholarly interest in this area, research on pedestrian mobility remains fragmented across various disciplines and lacks a unified framework. For urban planners and designers to collaborate more effectively, a clearer understanding of the key themes shaping pedestrian mobility is needed. This paper addresses that gap by organizing and analysing existing research through a bibliometric review of 1934 articles published between 1994 and 2023 in the Web of Science database. This article explores the evolution of pedestrian mobility research between 1994 and 2023, highlighting key topics and potential future directions. The bibliometric analysis draws on a range of indicators, including published papers, citation data, journal impact factors, h-index scores, top-cited authors and papers, and regional trends in research output. Most importantly, science mapping was conducted using the SciMAT software, with co-occurrence networks helping to reveal how research themes have evolved over time. The extensive body of work on pedestrian mobility made it possible to develop a conceptual map that traces the field’s intellectual development. From this analysis, five key thematic areas were identified: health, methods, environmental–social, city, and mobility. Full article

This study aims to provide a comprehensive cross-regional bibliometric analysis of artificial intelligence (AI) research in East Asia and Latin America from 2020 to 2025. By quantifying publication trends, authorship, institutional productivity, collaboration networks, and citation impact, the research seeks to identify regional leaders, thematic clusters, and disparities in visibility and impact between these two regions. Design/methodology/approach; Scopus-indexed publications containing the phrases “artificial intelligence research” or “artificial intelligence innovation” in their title, abstract, or keywords were retrieved for the period 2020–2025. Inclusion criteria required at least one author’s affiliation in any of the fourteen specified countries across East Asia or Latin America. All document types (articles, reviews, conference papers, book chapters) were considered. Metadata were manually extracted from Scopus database ranking to identify the top-cited papers, most prolific authors, leading institutions, thematic and subject-area concentrations, and crossnational collaboration patterns. Findings; this bibliometric review clarifies the dynamic trajectory of AI research in East Asia and Latin America, revealing significant disparities in productivity, visibility, and thematic focus. The findings underscore the need for targeted investments in research capacity building, strategic international partnerships, and thematic realignment particularly for Latin America to enhance global visibility and align with emerging AI trends. Originality; by contrasting two understudied regions (East Asia vs. Latin America), we capture shifts in the AI landscape—specifically, the generative AI boom across subfields and regions that no single region or pre 2022 study can. By highlighting structural disparities in productivity, citation impact, and institutional support, it offers policymakers, funding agencies, and academic leaders novel insights. Full article

Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly embedded in banking risk management, yet academic research on this topic remains conceptually fragmented and dispersed across multiple disciplines. This study examines global publication trends and thematic structures related to AI applications in banking risk management through a bibliometric analysis of 83 peer-reviewed articles indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection for the period 2020–2024. The analysis was conducted using Bibliometrix (R-package, version 4.1), its web interface Biblioshiny (2024 release), to evaluate publication dynamics, citation performance, authorship patterns, and thematic clusters. Results show a substantial rise in scientific interest, with annual publication growth of 41.4% and international co-authorship reaching 30%. Five major thematic clusters were identified, including AI-enabled credit risk assessment, fraud detection, operational and cyber-risk mitigation, FinTech adoption, and regulatory compliance. Approximately 30% of the articles appeared in the top ten journals publishing on the topic, and the dataset recorded more than 3800 cited references. The findings indicate that AI contributes to enhanced predictive accuracy, real-time anomaly detection, and supervisory efficiency in banking risk management, while persistent challenges relate to model transparency, data quality, and regulatory adaptation. This study offers a systematic, data-driven understanding of the intellectual landscape and research evolution of AI-driven banking risk management from 2020 to 2024. Full article

Vaccines worldwide reduce severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) consequences; however, viral evolution escapes immunity, raising global concerns about vaccine protection and requiring monitoring. Bioinformatics is crucial for studying vaccine escape, speeding up variant detection, mapping antibody evasion epitopes and ensuring updated vaccines and public health responses. This study combines bibliometric analysis of the Scopus literature (n = 416) on SARS-CoV-2 immune evasion using bioinformatics tools with descriptive analysis of the top ten most highly cited original articles. Our results showed the United States (USA) as the dominant contributor, leading in publication output, citation impact and collaboration networks. The key themes identified were immune evasion, spike protein mutations, and viral evolution, highlighting the structural, functional and immune evasion mechanisms of spike mutations. Leading authors and journals reveal a globally connected research community that is making advances in our understanding of SARS-CoV-2 vaccine evasion, and supporting the development of future treatments and vaccines. The top ten articles showed molecular docking, dynamics simulations, and protein modeling as crucial to studying vaccine escape. In conclusion, global research led mainly by the USA and supported by active contributions has used bioinformatics to elucidate SARS-CoV-2 immune evasion, guiding variant future vaccine and treatment development, variant monitoring, and preparedness for emerging variants. We compare the publication performance of open-access (OA) and subscription-based (SB) journals in Engineering using journal-level indicators from Scopus (CiteScore 2023 view; data collected on 2 December 2024). We analysed 3013 active Engineering journals with an assigned CiteScore quartile (Q1–Q4, where Q1 denotes the highest CiteScore quartile), of which 770 are labelled OA in Scopus; the remaining journals in each stratum were classified as SB. We stratified journals by CiteScore quartile and by the top 10% CiteScore percentile. We examined four indicators for 2020–2023: CiteScore 2023, total citations, number of published documents, and the percentage of cited articles. Because citation and publication counts are strongly right-skewed, we report medians and use Mann–Whitney tests with effect sizes (Cliff’s delta) and false discovery rate correction; Welch tests on log-transformed counts are used as sensitivity analyses. SB journals exhibit substantially higher citation and document medians across all quartiles and in the top 10% stratum, whereas CiteScore medians are very similar between access models. OA journals represent about one quarter of Engineering journals in Scopus, but remain underrepresented in the top 10% segment (125 of 484). Overall, OA provides a competitive level of impact, while SB titles still dominate accumulated visibility and editorial scale in Engineering. Full article

Artificial intelligence (AI) technology, serving as an indispensable component within intelligent construction systems, has become a cornerstone for driving the digital and intelligent transformation of the construction industry. Although AI demonstrates autonomous decision-making capabilities in specific operational contexts, because of the dynamic and often unforeseeable nature of construction workflows, human–AI collaboration (HAIC) still dominates the operational paradigm. This study undertakes a systematic review of the prior research on human–AI collaboration in intelligent construction. Through a bibliometric search, scientometric analysis, and in-depth literature classification, 191 highly cited articles in the past five years, which are in the top 10% by citation count within the dataset (as of May 2025, based on Scopus, Google Scholar, and WOS), were screened, and four research streams were formed based on a co-citation analysis and clustering, namely, construction robotics, productivity and safety, intelligent algorithms and modelling, and factors related to construction workers. Finally, a three-dimensional knowledge framework covering the technical layer, application layer, and management layer was constructed. Through this comprehensive synthesis, the study developed a human–AI collaboration knowledge framework in the field of construction science that integrates technology, scenarios, and management dimensions, revealing the co-evolutionary path of artificial intelligence technology and industry digital transformation. A series of articles has tested von Neumann’s minimax theory against behavioral evidence based on field data from professional sports. The evidence has been viewed and collectively cited as positive evidence that elite athletes in their familiar sports contexts mix well and behave in line with minimax. In this paper, based on open state-of-the-art tennis data and analytics, we shall uncover new and significant evidence against minimax at the very top of the game, where previously, such results had not been obtained. The kinds of behavioral deviations from minimax that we find become apparent, because we enrich the test strategy to take into account whether or not players face ‘pressure’ situations like break points and other decisive points. Our paper highlights that the prior literature’s failure to reject minimax does not constitute positive behavioral evidence, as some of that literature argued, because it is not robust to data aggregations and separations that are psychologically natural given the relevant real-world context. In this case, this means separating serves into the serve types that players actually consider and separating situations by pressure levels, which leads to clear and sound rejection of minimax. This paper unveils the nexus of the energy finance market and its significant dynamics. The results exhibit potential research areas, dominating research patterns and interlinkages among them. Our sample consists of 927 articles selected from the Scopus database for the sample period of 1972–2024. We present the quantitative performance of top articles, journals, authors, countries, and institutions. The result includes keyword co-occurrence analysis and co-authorship analysis for authors and countries. We include a literature review of the top 20 cited articles and the most followed methodologies. We found five themes, four clusters, and thirty-four future research questions, showing potential areas of research in the energy finance market. Additionally, based on our results, we proposed a theoretical framework of five major independent factors impacting the energy finance market. This novel study provides a comprehensive picture of the energy finance market, covering a vast period using Scopus as a database, underscoring the prevalent research patterns and serving financial practitioners, researchers, and policymakers. Aim: With the intensification of population aging, the public health challenges posed by multimorbidity have become increasingly severe. This study employs bibliometric analysis to elucidate research hotspots and trends in the field of multimorbidity against the backdrop of global aging. The immediate aim is to systematically map the intellectual landscape and evolving patterns in multimorbidity research. The ultimate long-term aim is to provide a scientific basis for optimizing chronic disease prevention systems and guiding future research directions. Methods: The study adopted the descriptive research method and employed a bibliometric approach, analyzing 8129 publications related to multimorbidity from the Web of Science Core Collection. Using CiteSpace, we constructed and visualized several knowledge structures, including collaboration networks, keyword co-occurrence networks, burst detection maps, and co-citation networks within the multimorbidity research domain. Results: The analysis included 8129 articles from 2004 to 2024, published across 1042 journals, with contributions from 740 countries/regions, 33,931 institutions, and 40,788 authors. The five most frequently occurring keywords were prevalence, health, older adult, mortality, and risk. The top five contributing countries globally were the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, China, and Spain. Five pivotal research trajectories delineate the intellectual architecture of this field: ① Evolution of Disease Cluster Management: Initial investigations (2013–2014) prioritized disease cluster coordination within general practice settings, particularly cardiovascular comorbidity management through primary care protocols and self-management strategies. ② Paradigm Shifts in Health Impact Assessment: Multimorbidity outcome research demonstrated sequential transitions—from physical disability evaluation (2013) to mental health consequences like depression (2016), culminating in current emphasis on holistic health indicators including frailty syndromes (2015–2019). ③ Expansion of Risk Factor Exploration: Analytical frameworks evolved from singular physical activity metrics (2014) toward comprehensive lifestyle-related determinants encompassing behavioral and environmental dimensions (2021). ④ Emergence of Polypharmacy Scholarship: Medication optimization studies emerged as a distinct research stream since 2016, addressing therapeutic complexities in multimorbidity management. ⑤ Frontier Investigations: Cutting-edge directions (2019–2021) feature cardiometabolic multimorbidity patterns and their dementia correlations, signaling novel interdisciplinary interfaces. Conclusions: The prevalence of multimorbidity is on the rise globally, particularly in older populations. Therefore, it is essential to prioritize the prevention of cardiometabolic conditions in older adults and to provide them with appropriate and effective health services, including disease risk monitoring and community-based chronic disease care. Background: The aim of this bibliometric study was to evaluate publication trends in the most frequently cited clinical trials on the treatment of gingival recession, taking into account the augmentation materials used. Methods: A Web of Science search was performed among articles published by 30 September 2024. Two independent reviewers evaluated year of publication, journal, authorship country of authors, collaborative relationship, keywords, and the main domains. Results: The top one hundred most-cited clinical trials were published in the span of 26 years from 1993 to 2019, and the total citation counts varied from 44 to 284 (83.69 citations per paper). There was correlation between the time of publication and the number of citations. The articles were authored by 333 researchers representing twenty-two countries. Italy contributed the highest number of articles (n = 36), followed by the USA (n = 28) and Brazil (n = 17). International collaborations were predominantly observed between Italy, the USA, and Switzerland. The type of graft was the most cited field of research (34), followed by guided tissue regeneration (17) and enamel matrix derivative (13). Conclusions: The country that produced the highest number publications among the 100 most-cited clinical trials on gingival recession treatment was Italy. The use of connective tissue graft (CTG) and coronally advanced flap (CAF) was the most prominent trend. Future work should combine bibliometric mapping with critical quality appraisal and explore whether citation trends align with best available evidence. Full article

Integrating human–robot collaboration (HRC) into construction sites has significantly enhanced efficiency and quality. However, it also introduces new or intensifies existing risks as it brings in new entities, relationships, and construction activities. Safety remains the top priority and a persistent concern in HRC systems. However, the current literature on human–robot collaboration safety (HRCS) is vast yet fragmented, and a systematic exploration of its status and research trends in the construction context is still lacking. This paper explores advances in HRCS over the past two decades through a mixed quantitative and qualitative analysis method. Initially, 287 related articles were identified by keyword-searching in Scopus, followed by bibliometric analysis using CiteSpace to uncover the knowledge structure and track emerging research trends. Subsequently, a qualitative discussion highlights achievements in HRCS across five dimensions: (1) optimization of remote intelligent machinery; (2) hazard analysis and risk assessment in HRCS; (3) digital twin for safety monitoring; (4) cognitive and psychological impacts; (5) organizational management perspective. This study quantitatively maps the scientific landscape of HRCS at a macro level and qualitatively identifies key research areas. It provides a comprehensive foundation for understanding the evolution of HRCS and exploring future research directions and applications. Full article

This study conducted a systematic review of 222 research articles (2014–2024) from the Web of Science Core Collection database to investigate the ecological and environmental impacts of pumped hydro storage (PHS). Utilizing CiteSpace 6.1R software for visual analysis, the research hotspots and evolutionary trends over the past decade were comprehensively examined. Key findings include the following: (1) Annual publication output exhibited sustained growth, with China contributing 29.7% of total publications, ranking first globally. (2) Research institutions demonstrated broad geographical distribution but weak collaborative networks, as the top 10 institutions accounted for only 21.6% of total publications, highlighting untapped potential for cross-regional cooperation. (3) Current research focuses on three domains: ecological–environmental benefit assessment, renewable energy synergistic integration, and power grid regulation optimization. Emerging trends emphasize multi-objective planning (e.g., economic–ecological trade-offs) and hybrid system design (e.g., solar–wind–PHS coordinated dispatch), providing critical support for green energy transitions. (4) Post-2020 research has witnessed novel thematic directions, including deepened studies on wind–PHS coupling and life-cycle assessment (LCA). Policy-driven renewable energy integration research entered an explosive growth phase, with PHS–photovoltaic–wind complementary technologies emerging as a core innovation pathway. Future research should prioritize strengthening institutional collaboration networks, exploring region-specific ecological impact mechanisms, and advancing policy–technology–environment multi-dimensional frameworks for practical applications.
