Traditional Case-Based Reasoning (CBR) methods face significant methodological challenges, including limited information resources in case databases, methodologically inadequate similarity calculation approaches, and a lack of standardized case revision mechanisms. These limitations lead to suboptimal case matching and insufficient solution adaptation, highlighting critical gaps in the development of CBR methodologies. This paper proposes a novel CBR framework enhanced by generative AI, aiming to improve and innovate existing methods in three key stages of traditional CBR, thereby enhancing the accuracy of retrieval and the scientific nature of corrections. First, we develop an ontology model for comprehensive case representation, systematically capturing scenario characteristics, risk typologies, and strategy frameworks through structured knowledge representation. Second, we introduce an advanced similarity calculation method grounded in triangle theory, incorporating three computational dimensions: attribute similarity measurement, requirement similarity assessment, and capability similarity evaluation. This multi-dimensional approach provides more accurate and robust similarity quantification compared to existing methods. Third, we design a generative AI-based case revision mechanism that systematically adjusts solution strategies based on case differences, considering interdependence relationships and mutual influence patterns among risk factors to generate optimized solutions. The methodological framework addresses fundamental limitations in existing CBR approaches through systematic improvements in case representation, similarity computation, and solution adaptation processes. Experimental validation using actual case data demonstrates the effectiveness and scientific validity of the proposed methodological framework, with applications in risk assessment and emergency response scenarios. The results show significant improvements in case-matching accuracy and solution quality compared to traditional CBR approaches. This method provides a robust methodological foundation for CBR-based decision-making systems and offers practical value for risk management applications. Full article

Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (NRF2) serves as a master transcriptional regulator of cellular antioxidant responses through orchestration of cytoprotective gene expression, establishing its significance as a therapeutic target in cerebral pathophysiology. Classical electrophilic NRF2 activators, despite potent activation potential, exhibit paradoxically reduced therapeutic efficacy relative to single antioxidants, attributable to concurrent oxidative stress generation, glutathione depletion, mitochondrial impairment, and systemic toxicity. Although emerging non-electrophilic pharmacological activators offer therapeutic potential, their utility remains limited by bioavailability and suboptimal potency, underscoring the imperative for innovative therapeutic strategies to harness this cytoprotective pathway. Non-pharmacological interventions, including neuromodulation, physical exercise, and lifestyle modifications, activate NRF2 through non-canonical, non-electrophilic pathways involving protein–protein interaction inhibition, KEAP1 degradation, post-translational and transcriptional modulation, and protein stabilization, though mechanistic characterization remains incomplete. Such interventions utilize multi-mechanistic approaches that synergistically integrate multiple non-electrophilic NRF2 pathways or judiciously combine electrophilic and non-electrophilic mechanisms while mitigating electrophile-induced toxicity. This strategy confers neuroprotective effects without the contraindications characteristic of classical electrophilic activators. This review comprehensively examines the mechanistic underpinnings of non-pharmacological NRF2 modulation, highlighting non-electrophilic activation pathways that bypass the limitations inherent to electrophilic activators. The evidence presented herein positions non-pharmacological interventions as viable therapeutic approaches for achieving non-electrophilic NRF2 activation in the treatment of cerebrovascular and neurodegenerative pathologies. Background/Objectives: Adapalene is a synthetic retinoid used as a treatment for acne vulgaris. In this study, we attempted to evaluate the dermal pharmacokinetics of adapalene utilizing experimental and in silico tools. Methods: We utilized three over the counter (OTC) adapalene gels to evaluate local dermal pharmacokinetics. A data-driven, robust, mechanistic dermal physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) model was developed by integrating the physicochemical properties of adapalene, the formulation attributes of the gels, and the biophysical aspects of dermal absorption. The dermal PBPK model was validated against experimental data using in vitro release studies and in vitro permeation studies with human cadaver skin. A clinical study was performed to evaluate the effects of adapalene from the three gel formulations. The impact of adapalene delivery from three gels on the stratum corneum (SC) thickness, pilosebaceous unit area, keratinocyte number, and epidermal thickness was captured using a non-invasive technique, line-field confocal optical coherence tomography (LC–OCT). These responses were evaluated using an Emax model. Results: The dermal PBPK model has successfully predicted adapalene penetration profiles across different gel formulations. The model accuracy, in predicting drug release and permeation characteristics, was confirmed using the experimental data. Clinical evaluation revealed formulation-dependent differences in adapalene’s effects on measured skin parameters, with distinct pharmacodynamic profiles observed for each gel formulation. Conclusions: The overall study gave us a detailed insight into potential effects of formulation on the dermal pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of adapalene using three marketed gels. Sierra Leone possesses distinct educational, economic, and social characteristics. Public universities in the country, funded by the government, are mandated to promote sustainable development, ethical conduct, and social welfare, aligning with national development strategies such as the Midterm National Development Plan and the Education Sector Plan, which emphasize leadership, diversity, and ethical standards to advance sustainable development practices. This study applies Transformational Leadership Theory to investigate the influence of transformational leadership on corporate social responsibility, exploring the mediating role of innovative work behavior and the moderating effect of organizational culture on this relationship. Using a stratified sampling technique, data were collected from 367 employees across six public universities in Sierra Leone and analyzed with SMART PLS software 4.1.1.2. The findings revealed that transformational leadership positively and significantly impacts corporate social responsibility and innovative work behavior, with innovative work behavior partially mediating the relationship between transformational leadership and corporate social responsibility, while organizational culture positively and significantly moderates this relationship. Based on these findings, the study recommends that public universities in Sierra Leone integrate transformational leadership principles into their institutional frameworks to improve organizational outcomes and leadership effectiveness. This can be achieved through leadership development programs emphasizing transformational attributes such as inspirational motivation, individualized consideration, and vision-sharing, alongside mentorship programs for leaders at all levels to strengthen leadership skills and foster an organizational culture aligned with institutional goals. Soils are critical natural resources, yet their abiotic contributions to ecosystem services remain largely unexplored in valuation studies. This pilot study represents, to the best of our knowledge, the first attempt to assess the perceived value of geosystem services (GSs) from a consumer perspective. Using a discrete choice experiment with 200 respondents, we evaluated preferences for Rotella apples and Moscatello wine through mixed multinomial logit and latent class models. Results show that attributes related to soil use and soil control were consistently significant drivers of consumer utility (e.g., odds ratios of 9.38 and 5.78 for Moscatello wine and 8.46 and 5.56 for Rotella apples, respectively; p < 0.01). These attributes align more closely with the concept of a “geological fingerprint” than with existing geographical labeling schemes such as the Protected Designation of Origin. Price effects were statistically insignificant, indicating virtually no influence on choices. Both estimated models revealed preference heterogeneity and a substantial number of no-buy responses. This suggests both limited consumer familiarity with GS concepts and a limitation of our attribute descriptions, which likely failed to convey information needed for effective purchasing decisions. This study is exploratory and limited by its convenience sample, imperfect price specification, and inability to estimate willingness-to-pay measures. Nevertheless, it provides empirical support for introducing geological footprint labeling and highlights the need for improved consumer information, policy tools, and public campaigns to promote recognition and sustainable management of geodiversity in agriculture. The ecological interface between grasslands and farmlands forms a critical landscape component, significantly contributing to the stability and functioning of ecosystems within the agro-pastoral transition zone of northern China. Nevertheless, the variation patterns and interactions between soil physicochemical attributes and microbial community diversity at this interface remain poorly understood. In this study, we investigated nine sites located within 50 m of the grassland–farmland boundary in the Songnen Plain, northeastern China. We assessed the soil’s physicochemical properties and the composition of bacterial and fungal communities across these sites. Results indicated a declining gradient in soil physicochemical characteristics from grassland to farmland, except for pH and total phosphorus (TP). The composition of bacterial and fungal communities differed notably in response to contrasting land-use types across the ecological interface. Soil environmental variables were closely aligned with shifts observed in bacterial and fungal assemblages. Concentrations of total nitrogen (TN), available phosphorus (AP), alkali-hydrolyzable nitrogen (AN), and available potassium (AK) exhibited inverse correlations with both bacterial and fungal populations. Alterations in microbial community composition were significantly linked to TN, TP, total potassium (TK), AN, AP, AK, and soil pH levels. Variability in soil properties, as well as microbial biomass and diversity, was evident across the grassland–cropland boundary. Long-term utilization and conversion of grassland into cultivated land altered the soil’s physicochemical environment, thereby indirectly shaping the structure of microbial communities, including both bacteria and fungi. These findings provide a valuable basis for understanding the ecological implications of land-use transitions and inform microbial-based indicators for assessing soil health in agro-pastoral ecotones. The persistence of pharmaceutical pollutants such as ciprofloxacin (CIP) in aquatic environments represents a critical environmental threat due to their potential to induce antimicrobial resistance. Photocatalysis using TiO2-based materials offers a promising solution for their mineralization; however, the limited visible-light response of TiO2 and charge carrier recombination restricts its overall efficiency. In this study, Nb-doped TiO2 nanoparticles were synthesized via the sol–gel method, incorporating Nb5+, ions into the TiO2 lattice to modulate the structural and electronic properties of TiO2 to enhance its photocatalytic performance for CIP degradation under UV and visible irradiation. Comprehensive structural, morphological, and optical analyses revealed that Nb incorporation stabilizes the anatase phase, reduces particle size (from 21.42 nm to 10.29 nm), and induces a slight band gap widening (from 2.85 to 2.87 eV) due to the Burstein–Moss effect. Despite this blue shift, Nb-TiO2 exhibited significantly improved photocatalytic activity under visible light, achieving 86% CIP degradation with a reaction rate 16 times higher than that of undoped TiO2. This enhancement was attributed to improved charge separation and higher hydroxyl radical (OH) generation, driven by excess conduction band electrons introduced by Nb doping. Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations further elucidated the electronic structure modifications responsible for this behavior, offering molecular-level insights into Nb dopant-induced property tuning. These findings demonstrate how targeted doping strategies can engineer multifunctional nanomaterials with superior photocatalytic efficiencies, especially under visible light, highlighting the synergy between experimental design and theoretical modeling for environmental applications. There is little scientific evidence for many of the medical benefits attributed to aromatherapy and neurocosmetics; however, they have been shown to be useful in the management of symptoms such as pain, nausea, general well-being, anxiety, depression, stress, and insomnia through various mechanisms, including the olfactory pathway and activation of TRPV and CBD receptors. Preeclampsia (PE) is a hypertensive disorder impacting 5–7% of pregnancies globally. With no causative treatment available, diagnosed patients have limited therapeutic options, putting them at risk for pregnancy complications. The induction of oxidative stress by ROS—one of the major contributors in PE pathogenesis—causes downstream signaling and production of anti-angiogenic factors, such as sFLT1 and sEng. The anti-angiogenic factors may cause endothelial and trophoblast dysfunction, contributing to the development of hypertension, proteinuria, and in severe cases, eclampsia. To target placental oxidative stress, we developed and evaluated an organofluorine hydrazone antioxidant, HY-12, in vitro. Human trophoblast (HTR8/SVneo) cells were incubated with hydrogen peroxide to induce oxidative stress and act as a model of PE. The goal of the study was to assess the efficacy of HY-12 and its ability to reduce cell injury, mitochondrial stress, and anti-angiogenic response. In our human trophoblast-based assays, pre-treatment with HY-12 reduced mitochondrial-derived ROS production in cells exposed to hydrogen peroxide, proving its ability to alleviate the oxidative stress associated with the pathogenesis of PE. HY-12 reduced HIF1A expression and sFLT1 protein expression in H2O2-exposed HTR8 cells. Furthermore, HY-12 improved the activity of the mitochondrial electron chain enzyme cytochrome C oxidase (COX) in the hydrogen-peroxide-treated HTR8/SVneo cells, which is a promising attribute of the compound. In reducing placental trophoblast oxidative stress, HY-12 shows promise as a potential treatment of preeclampsia. In vivo studies are warranted to further determine the efficacy of this compound. The extensive distribution of quaternary sediments and the extraction of underground resources in the Yellow River Delta (YRD) have resulted in significant land subsidence, which accelerates relative sea level (RSL) rise and heightens the risk of coastal inundation. This study uses Sentinel-1A (S1A) imagery and the time-series synthetic aperture radar interferometry (TS-InSAR) method to obtain subsidence information for the YRD. By integrating data from groundwater level monitoring wells, hydrogeological conditions, extensometer monitoring, and drilling wells, we analyze the causes of subsidence and the deformation response to the groundwater level changes in the corresponding aquifers. For the first time in the YRD, this study introduces the high accuracy CoastalDEM v2.1 digital elevation model, combined with absolute sea level (ASL) data, to construct a coastal inundation simulation. This simulation maps the land inundation caused by RSL rise along the YRD in different scenarios. The results indicate significant subsidence bowls in coastal and inland regions, primarily attributed to shallow brine and deep groundwater extraction, respectively. The main subsidence layers in inland towns have been identified, and residual deformation has been observed. Currently, land subsidence has caused a maximum elevation loss of 141 mm/yr in coastal YRD areas, significantly contributing to RSL rise. Seawater inundation simulations suggest that if subsidence continues unabated, 12.84% of the YRD region will be inundated by 2100, with 8.74% of the built-up areas expected to be inundated. Compared to global warming-induced ASL rise, ongoing subsidence is the primary driver of inundation in the YRD coastal areas. Full article

Natural resource assets inherently integrate tripartite synthesis of legal, economic, and ecological attributes. They serve dual critical functions as foundational elements supporting the evolution of new-quality productive forces and pivotal mechanisms safeguarding ecosystemic integrity. It has become a global consensus and direction of action to advance comprehensive supervision of natural resource assets and practice the concept of “Community of Life for Human and Nature”. Under the background of the super-ministry system restructuring in China, comprehensive supervision of natural resource assets remains challenged by system fragmentation in supervision objectives and multifaceted interest conflicts among stakeholders. Using comparative analysis and normative analysis methods, we validate the system’s function on the comprehensive supervision of natural resource assets, summarize foreign experiences, and ultimately aim to explore the optimization pathway of the legal system for the comprehensive supervision of natural resource assets. The results show the following: (1) The choice of the legal system for the comprehensive supervision of natural resource assets emerges as the functional product aligning societal objectives, the rational paradigm for achieving efficient resource allocation, and the adaptive response to the external effects of common property. (2) The system supply of comprehensive supervision of natural resource assets in foreign countries is characterized by normative convergence in conceptual elements and typological categorization in objectives and objects. Therefore, this research recommends that, in order to optimize the system of the comprehensive supervision of natural resource assets in China, (1) in terms of protection of source, natural resource assets should be categorized, with operational natural resource assets focusing on management and public welfare natural resource assets focusing on conservation. (2) In terms of valuation, the economic valuation of natural resource assets should be integrated with ecosystem service assessments to enhance fair market equity. (3) In terms of method, the big data center should be established to enable the synergistic integration of technological innovation and system reforms. (4) In terms of subject, requiring the participation of various government departments, non-governmental organizations, the general public, and other parties could realize the connection of different legal bases for the comprehensive supervision of natural resource assets and the balance of multiple rights and interests, which should help to achieve balanced resource efficiency and biodiversity conservation and safeguard national ecological security. The field of communication studies shares significant connections with environmental science, where environmental monitoring constitutes one of the fundamental functions of communication. Based on data from the China General Social Survey (CGSS2021), this study establishes two research models and employs ordered logistic regression to examine the relationships between media usage, environmental water pollution, cognition of environmental policies, and willingness to pay (WTP) for environmental protection. The findings reveal that the perception of water pollution significantly enhances public cognition of environmental policies and WTP. However, the impact of water pollution itself is insignificant, indicating a weak public perception of long-term environmental risks. Both traditional media usage and new media usage significantly improve cognition of environmental policies, with traditional media playing a more pronounced role; yet, media trust does not significantly enhance cognition. Furthermore, new media usage and media trust exhibit a negative impact on WTP for environmental protection, revealing the effects of the “clicktivism” mechanism and the “trust-efficacy perception” negative feedback loop. The negative impact of cognition of environmental policies on WTP further uncovers a “cognition-behavior paradox,” where groups with higher cognition tend to attribute environmental responsibility to the government, thereby reducing their personal WTP. Based on these findings, this paper proposes recommendations including optimizing environmental communication strategies, strengthening public participation, and designing differentiated policies to enhance public environmental awareness and promote the effective implementation of water pollution governance. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a prevalent endocrinological condition among women of reproductive age, characterized by several well-known symptoms, including hyperandrogenism, anovulation, irregular menstrual cycles, and insulin resistance. In addition, women suffering from PCOS are also at an increased risk of developing several autoimmune diseases, including thyroid disorders, type 1 diabetes, and rheumatoid arthritis. Furthermore, an elevated prevalence of diverse autoantibodies is observed in women diagnosed with PCOS. These include antibodies specific to autoimmune diseases, e.g., anti-thyroid peroxidase (anti-TPO), anti-thyroglobulin (anti-TG), and antinuclear antibodies (ANAs), as well as those that are non-specific, such as anti-malondialdehyde-modified human serum albumin (anti-HSA-MDA) or anti-α-crystallin. It appears that several mechanisms may be responsible for this phenomenon. PCOS has been observed to co-occur with autoimmune diseases, potentially attributable to shared genetic susceptibility or the presence of hormonal disorders resulting from autoimmune diseases. Moreover, PCOS is a chronic low-grade inflammatory disease that may contribute to immune dysfunction and subsequent overproduction of autoantibodies. A further intriguing aspect may be the yet-unknown role of autoantibodies in the pathogenesis of PCOS, considering PCOS as a disease with an autoimmune etiology. Full article

A greater understanding of health-promoting factors, such as hope, is crucial for preventing and enhancing the mental health of higher education students. The Herth Hope Index (HHI) is a 12-item tool that has been widely used to assess a comprehensive, non-temporal perception of hope. While this instrument has been used extensively in adult populations, most studies focus on clinical populations. Additionally, the HHI reveals inconsistencies in terms of scale dimensionality and items to be retained. Therefore, this study sought to assess the HHI’s psychometric characteristics in a sample of Portuguese Higher Education students. The person response validity, internal scale validity, unidimensionality, and uniform differential item functioning were assessed using a Rasch rating scale model. A total of 2227 higher education students participated during the e-survey activation period (spring semester of 2020). The mean age of the sample was 22.5 ± 6.2 years (range 18–59 years). Three of the twelve items (#3, #5, and #6) failed to satisfy the established criterion for goodness of fit. Following the elimination of these three items, the resultant nine-item scale exhibited satisfactory item fit to the model, appropriate unidimensionality (52.4% of the variance explained), enough person goodness of fit, sufficient separation, and the absence of differential item functioning. The 9-item version of the HHI had psychometric properties comparable to the original 12-item version. This study also underscores the importance of validated instruments for assessing hope-based interventions in academic contexts. Further research is necessary to explore the potential dimensions inherent to the hope concept and to identify variations in hope profiles among items influenced by cultural attributes. Full article

As mental health issues such as stress, anxiety, and depression become increasingly prevalent in urban populations, there is a critical need to embed restorative functions into the built environment. Urban parks, as integral components of ecological infrastructure, play a vital role in promoting psychological well-being. This study explores how diverse park environments facilitate mental health recovery through multi-sensory engagement, using integrated psychophysiological assessments in a wetland park in Zhengzhou, China. Electroencephalography (EEG) and perceived restoration scores were employed to evaluate recovery outcomes across four environmental types: waterfront, wetland, forest, and plaza. Key perceptual factors—including landscape design, spatial configuration, biodiversity, and facility quality—were validated and analyzed for their roles in shaping restorative experiences. Results reveal significant variation in recovery effectiveness across environments. Waterfront areas elicited the strongest physiological responses, while plazas demonstrated lower restorative benefits. Two recovery pathways were identified: a direct, sensory-driven process and a cognitively mediated route. Biodiversity promoted physiological restoration only when mediated by perceived restorative qualities, whereas landscape and spatial attributes produced more immediate effects. Facilities supported psychological recovery mainly through cognitive appraisal. The study proposes a smart park framework that incorporates environmental sensors, adaptive lighting, real-time biofeedback systems, and interactive interfaces to enhance user engagement and monitor well-being. These technologies enable urban parks to function as intelligent, health-supportive infrastructures within the broader built environment. The findings offer evidence-based guidance for designing responsive green spaces that contribute to mental resilience, aligning with the goals of smart city development and healthy life-building environments.
