As road transport is a major contributor to anthropogenic CO2 emissions, the importance of sustainable mobility planning and fleet management becomes very clear. Therefore, this article proposes a physics-based mathematical framework for dynamic estimation of CO2 emissions. The proposed framework is very flexible and enables CO2 assessment for different types of vehicles (i.e., combustion engine and electric vehicles), traffic and operating conditions. The proposed software prototype is evaluated through representative urban and peri-urban simulation scenarios. These scenarios involve conventional public transport, private vehicles, and demand-responsive ride-hailing services. The simulation results show that vehicle occupancy is one of the main factors impacting specific CO2 emissions. In this context, in low-passenger-demand and dispersed travel conditions, demand-responsive mobility services can achieve lower emissions per passenger-kilometer than conventional public transport. In contrast, when occupancy levels are sufficiently high, public transport remains the most efficient option. These results indicate that there is no universally optimal transport mode and that emission efficiency is the result of a matching between vehicle capacity and passenger demand. Therefore, the proposed framework delivers a transparent and practical decision-support tool for transport mobility services. Full article

Tourism is carbon-intensive, with transport and mobility driving much of its greenhouse-gas emissions, yet destination-level evidence on carbon hotspots and decarbonization from a supply-chain perspective remains scarce, especially in developing regions. This study examines low-carbon tourism supply chain management in seven purposively selected provinces of Northeastern Thailand (Isan) using a qualitative-dominant convergent mixed-methods design that integrates demand- and supply-side evidence. A visitor survey yielded 74 open-ended responses (60 complete questionnaires), alongside seven semi-structured key-informant interviews with tourism supply chain operators across the seven provinces. Quantitative data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, and qualitative data with thematic analysis using qualitative data analysis software, drawing on code-frequency and co-occurrence analysis; the two strands were triangulated in joint displays. Visitors reported moderate satisfaction (grand mean 3.91 on a five-point scale) but rated environmental management and safety lowest, engaging with sustainability through visible service cues rather than emissions. Key informants identified perceived carbon hotspots, carrying capacity, and seasonality as dominant concerns, attributing the destination’s footprint chiefly to transport dependence (informant-reported estimates ranging from approximately 80% to nearly 100% private-car arrivals, amid limited public transport) and accommodation energy; these hotspots reflect stakeholder perceptions rather than measured emissions, as no carbon accounting, environmentally extended input–output analysis, or life-cycle assessment was conducted. Integration revealed a demand–supply perception gap and five proposed, interdependent low-carbon pathways: coordinated mobility, accommodation energy efficiency, strengthened local procurement, carrying-capacity and waste management, and multi-stakeholder governance. The findings offer a developing-region, supply-chain-oriented basis for future tourism decarbonization research and practice. Full article

Raw aerial imagery can expose faces, license plates, private-property context, location traces, and sensitive human activity, while cloud-based vision–language processing can increase latency, bandwidth use, and governance risk. This article presents PrivEdge-VLM, a risk-adaptive privacy-preserving edge vision–language analytics framework for UAV-assisted cyber–physical–social systems. PrivEdge-VLM integrates object detection, privacy-sensitive region detection, mission-aware semantic tokenization, local inference, sanitized split inference, federated LoRA adaptation with differential privacy and simulated masked aggregation, and deterministic operator guardrails. Across public UAV imagery, public privacy benchmarks, and non-human staged object protocol examples, the evaluation compares raw-cloud, downsampling, static-blur, local-VLM, raw-embedding split, federated static-privacy, no-DP, and full configurations. The full configuration preserves mission utility while reducing residual visual PII, plate-OCR leakage, membership-inference risk, embedding inversion, bandwidth, and unsafe identity-oriented responses under the stated attack protocols. The edge hardware deployment separates privacy-front-end throughput from event-level VLM query latency. The results indicate that UAV VLM privacy is a CPS co-design problem involving semantic transformation, attack-based leakage evaluation, resource-aware deployment, and operator oversight. Healthcare facilities are among the most energy-intensive public infrastructures due to their continuous operations, complex systems, and critical service requirements. In this context, Energy Performance Contracts (EPCs) have gained increasing attention as a strategic tool for enhancing energy efficiency and sustainability in healthcare facilities. This paper investigates the potential and implementation of EPCs in the hospital sector, with a particular focus on their integration within Public–Private Partnership (PPP) frameworks. The study addresses that gap through a cross-case analysis of fourteen hospital EPC projects implemented in Italy, the United Kingdom, the Nordic countries and Central-Eastern Europe, mapping their technical scope against a three-family taxonomy (envelope, plant systems, regulation and monitoring) and benchmarking their energy and economic performance. All figures reported derive from project documentation and contractual monitoring records. The results show that envelope-led configurations deliver the deepest reductions in primary and final energy consumption (up to 50% on the baseline), while plant-side measures, and trigeneration in particular, generate the largest absolute CO2 savings (from approximately 500 to 17,000 tCO2eq/yr); lighting, and building management systems (BMS) retrofits, although ubiquitous, account for a 20–25% band when deployed in isolation. The findings reframe EPCs as a configurable contract for decarbonization in healthcare environments and offer practitioners a reading grid for scoping future hospital retrofits under this framework. Based on the Job Demands–Resources theory, this research investigates how organisational resources shape employee resilience and, in turn, influence work engagement among nurses in the Lithuanian healthcare sector. The paper explores three organisational resources: co-worker support, staffing and recruitment adequacy, and dignified treatment for healthcare employees. Data were collected through a survey (n = 443) from nurses employed in public and private healthcare institutions and analysed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling. The results indicate that co-worker support (β = 0.328, p < 0.001) and dignified treatment (β = 0.270, p < 0.001) are significant positive aspects of developing employee resilience, while staffing and recruitment adequacy did not have an impact on employee resilience. Employee resilience demonstrated a strong positive effect on work engagement (β = 0.488, p < 0.001). These findings help to understand the relations and structural antecedents of nurse resilience, demonstrating that social and interpersonal resources have a strong influence on employee engagement. The study has practical implications for healthcare human resource management in contexts of systemic workforce shortage and high occupational demand. Full article

The purpose of this study is to determine the most suitable Destination Management Organization (DMO) model for the sustainable development of the Rize destination. Approached from the perspective of Complex Adaptive Systems (CAS), the research is of strategic importance in order to overcome systemic entropy threats, such as coordination deficiencies and unplanned growth, faced by the destination through a scientific model. Methodologically, a sequential exploratory mixed method integrating qualitative and quantitative methods was adopted. In the qualitative phase, system bottlenecks were identified through interviews with 15 strategic stakeholders; in the quantitative phase, Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Quality Function Deployment (QFD) analyses were applied with 271 participants. Key findings indicate that the most critical factors disrupting the system’s homeostatic balance are weak inter-institutional coordination and inadequate infrastructure. AHP results confirm that market diversification, sustainable planning, and quality standards are priority activities. The final analysis conducted using the QFD decision matrix identified the PPCP (Public–Private–Community Partnership) model, which synchronizes public oversight with private sector innovation and integrates community-based feedback mechanisms, as the most effective structure for enabling resource integration and value co-creation among actors. The model’s adaptive architecture further accommodates emergent stakeholder dynamics, including the growing role of tourists as co-creators of destination experiences through digital platforms. The study contributes to the literature by offering a rational decision support mechanism for complex system management through AHP-QFD integration and proposes a three-phase evaluation framework to ensure results-oriented governance adaptation. Achieving sustainable maritime transport requires comprehensive understanding of port-related emissions and evidence-based mitigation strategies. Maritime shipping significantly contributes to air pollution in port cities, threatening environmental sustainability and public health, yet comprehensive emission inventories remain scarce for major ports in developing economies. This study presents the first bottom-up emission inventory for Ambarlı Port, Turkey’s largest container port, utilizing AIS data from Global Fishing Watch for calendar year 2025. Emissions of CO2, NOx, SO2, PM10, PM2.5, CO, and NMVOC were quantified using EMEP/EEA activity-based methodology with IMO Tier II emission factors and vessel type-specific load factors (75% for passenger, 45% for cargo) from ENTEC guidelines. Non-commercial vessels (tugs, service craft, fishing vessels) and lay-up vessels exceeding six months continuous berthing were excluded to focus on active commercial shipping operations, resulting in a validated dataset of 10,267 port visits from commercial cargo, passenger, and bunker vessels. Annual emissions from active commercial vessels totaled 404,766 tonnes CO2, 8487 tonnes NOx, 6724 tonnes SO2, 914 tonnes PM10, and 849 tonnes PM2.5. Passenger vessels dominated the inventory (93.3% of CO2) due to high auxiliary power demands for hotel services and elevated load factors, while cargo vessels contributed 6.5% despite representing 61.4% of port visits. Turkish-flagged vessels accounted for the majority of domestic ferry traffic. These findings provide baseline data for air quality management in the Istanbul metropolitan area and support policy development regarding shore power implementation, with particular emphasis on reducing emissions from passenger vessels with extended berth times. From a policy perspective, prioritized shore power investment at passenger ferry terminals emerges as the most cost-effective emission reduction strategy, with potential to eliminate over 90% of port-related air pollutant emissions through public-private partnership models. This article examines graduate employability challenges in the tourism and hospitality sector of Marrakech, a major tourism destination and strategic regional labour market in Morocco, characterised by strong seasonality, high labour turnover, and persistent education–employment mismatches. Rather than focusing exclusively on technology, the study analyses employability as a multidimensional and context-dependent process, in which digitalisation and artificial intelligence (AI) constitute one influencing factor among others. The research adopts a qualitative, purposive design based on semi-structured interviews conducted between August and October 2025 with 20 stakeholders directly involved in recruitment, training, or early career integration. These include five-star hotel general managers and HR officers, riad managers, travel agencies, recruitment intermediaries, representatives of Morocco’s public employment service (ANAPEC—National Agency for the Promotion of Employment and Skills) and private, regional tourism authorities, academics and young tourism graduates. Interview transcripts were thematically analysed using NVivo to identify recurrent patterns in recruitment practices, skill expectations, and the impact of AI in employability. The results, reflecting stakeholders’ perceptions within this local labour market, show that employability is shaped by six interrelated dimensions: (1) the structure and functioning of the tourism labour market (segmentation, turnover, mobility); (2) partial misalignment between training provision and operational service realities; (3) recruitment standards that prioritise behavioural and relational competences alongside formal qualifications, particularly for frontline positions; (4) language proficiency, especially English and French, as a baseline employability condition; (5) growing expectations regarding digital literacy linked to tourism operations (property management systems, reservation platforms, online reputation management); and (6) the perceived impact of AI-enabled tools (automation of routine tasks, decision-support systems, chatbots), which is seen less as a source of job destruction than as a driver of task reconfiguration and skill upgrading. By situating employer and graduate perceptions within the broader Moroccan employment and training context, the study contributes a place-based understanding of employability in tourism. It highlights the shared responsibility of individuals, employers, and education and training institutions in supporting skill development. The article concludes by discussing policy and practice-oriented levers to strengthen graduate employability, including co-designed curricula, structured internships and mentoring schemes, employer-supported upskilling in tourism-specific digital and AI-related competences, and reinforced labour-market intermediation through ANAPEC and regional governance actors. The agrarian sector, as the key source of livelihood in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), has become highly vulnerable to changes in extension service deliveries. Farmers mainly lack access to technical advice, financial credits, farming inputs and mechanization tools while environmental challenges reinforce the adaptation of sustainable management practices. Therefore, an understanding how multi-functional actor relationships determine agricultural knowledge and information (AKI) sharing is required. This study contributes to filling this gap by characterizing horizontal and vertical interactions. By applying a social network analysis, we mapped actor relations along public–private-community co-operations to provide insights into structural dependencies at different administrative levels. Related to three sites distributed over Burkina Faso and Ghana, local perceptions were collected in stakeholder workshops to generate social network narratives. These narratives were analyzed by various metrics to identify patterns of partnerships and key actors. Study results reveal for Burkina Faso a slight shared network topology, while both sites in Ghana reflect a top-down flow of AKI. The statistical findings indicate that agricultural extension services are primarily delivered to farmers through a few key actors such as NGOs and farm-based organizations/cooperatives. Especially at the community level, the results show many reciprocal links between farmers, business actors and NGOs. This highlights a shift toward a pluralistic agricultural extension service system and underpins the demand for policies to support the long-term viability of these actors, in particular for regions where public extension agents are under-represented. Groundwater is increasingly relied upon in cities, particularly during drought, yet its management often lacks coordination and systems-based decision-making. Effective governance requires inclusive participation across sectors and scales, engaging actors with diverse knowledge, experiences, and priorities. In cities, this is challenging due to the wide range of roles and responsibilities tied to groundwater. This study examines the value of urban water metabolism analysis (UWMA) for enhancing groundwater governance in Cape Town and Nelson Mandela Bay, South Africa—both recently affected by severe drought. Through a series of Learning Labs, we convened groundwater-related actors to co-develop a shared understanding of urban water systems. We brought together two methods of systems enquiry, UWMA and governance network analysis to explore physical stocks and flows of water across metropolitan boundaries with governance processes shaping groundwater management. The UWMA revealed that, prior to the 2015 drought, Nelson Mandela Bay’s water supplies were more diversified than those of Cape Town, despite Cape Town progressively pursuing managed aquifer recharge and wastewater reuse. The governance analysis surfaced the diversity of actors influencing groundwater flows across the public, private, and civil society sectors, yet highlighted the fragmented nature of the network, with geohydrology and engineering consultants often acting as intermediaries. This research found that UWMA was perceived to be most useful at larger scales (e.g., watershed/urban scales) and was considered a valuable tool for strategic discussion, though clearer language would increase accessibility. We conclude that UWMA helps identify knowledge gaps, integrate diverse perspectives, and foster stakeholder cooperation. Coupled with scenario planning, it can support participatory and inclusive decision-making. Full article

Background: Adapted exercise and adapted sport are proven, low-cost interventions for chronic disease prevention, management, and social inclusion. However, in Italy, neither is explicitly included in the Livelli Essenziali di Assistenza (LEA; nationally guaranteed essential healthcare services), creating unequal access, fragmented governance, and unstable funding. Provision remains largely dependent on regional schemes such as Palestre della Salute and Attività Fisica Adattata (AFA). Methods: We conducted a narrative review integrating evidence from international guidelines, systematic reviews, and key Italian legislative reforms (Legislative Decrees n. 36/2021, 163/2022, 120/2023). We also examined policy frameworks from Germany, Sweden, and Norway to identify transferable components that could support the development of a nationally guaranteed, rights-based system for adapted exercise and adapted sport. Results: Consistent evidence shows that adapted exercise improves functional capacity, quality of life, and clinical outcomes while reducing hospitalizations and healthcare expenditures. Adapted sport further enhances psychosocial well-being, inclusion, and participation among people with disabilities. Based on this evidence, we outline a legal-policy framework for LEA integration that places the chinesiologo at the center of multidisciplinary health teams, defines national standards for assessment, individualized programming, and monitoring, and introduces accreditation mechanisms for facilities and professionals. A blended financing approach is proposed, combining National Health Service (SSN) coverage with income-adjusted co-payments and targeted public–private partnerships. Conclusions: Explicit LEA inclusion of adapted exercise and adapted sport would translate scientific evidence into enforceable rights of health citizenship and ensure uniform national provision, in line with constitutional principles affirmed by the Italian Court. Such reform would strengthen prevention and chronic-disease management and institutionalize the role of the chinesiologo within the SSN through nationally standardized yet regionally adaptable delivery models. This research examines the pursuit of behavioral change for climate-resilient tourism along the Catalan coast by engaging territorial stakeholders in a co-creation process. This study is guided by the following research question: how can the co-creation of integrated climate services, water and energy management, and beach-dune conservation foster behavioral change among stakeholders towards climate-resilient tourism along the Catalan coast? Focusing on two destinations in Catalonia (Costa Daurada and Terres de l’Ebre), it examines three interconnected dimensions of tourism activity: (1) weather, climate, and climate change; (2) energy and water; and (3) beach-dune systems. Through our analysis, we pursue three secondary objectives: (1) to assess the influence of meteo-climatic conditions on tourist activity, (2) to identify necessary adaptation measures related to water and energy management, and (3) to explore how historical photographs can shape stakeholders’ perceptions regarding the relevance and conservation of the beach-dune system. By bringing together expertise in climate services, resource management, and ecosystem conservation, this study explores how collaborative engagement with public and private stakeholders can foster adaptive strategies that enhance the sustainability and resilience of coastal tourism. The findings directly respond to the research question by showing that co-creation processes integrating climate, resource, and ecosystem management can effectively foster behavioral change among stakeholders. Specifically, the main results highlight (1) a clear relationship between meteo-climatic conditions and tourism activities, underscoring the importance of climate awareness; (2) stakeholder recognition of practical adaptation measures focused on water and energy management to increase sector resilience; and (3) the use of the historical photographs as an effective tool to enhance participants’ understanding of beach-dune systems, improving their knowledge of these ecosystems’ dynamics, formation, and evolution. This paper aims to explore the role artificial intelligence (AI) technologies play in optimizing energy consumption levels in urban logistical systems, including the strategic implications of such technologies on smart supply chain management (SCM) in Dubai. The mixed-methods study was adopted and applied, in which quantitative measures of the performance of 16 public–private organizations were merged with qualitative evidence provided through semi-structured interviews and document analysis. AI solutions that were assessed in the research included the use of predictive routing, dynamic fleet scheduling, IoT-base monitoring, and smart warehousing. Results indicate an overall decrease of 13.9% in fuel consumption, 17.3% in energy and 259.4 kg in monthly CO2 emissions by the organization on average by adopting AI. These findings were proven by the simulation model, which estimated that the delivery efficiency would increase within an AI-driven scenario and be scalable in the future. Other important impediments were also outlined in the study, such as constraint of legacy systems, skills gap, and interoperability of data. Implications point to the necessity of the incorporation of digital governance, data protocol standardization, and AI-compatible city planning to improve the urban SCM of Dubai, through the terms of sustainability and resilience. In this study, a transferable structure is provided that can be utilized by cities that are interested in matching AI innovation and energy and logistics goals, in terms of policy objectives. Diverse realities challenge the management capacity of public and private systems to ensure equitable quality and efficient access to resources, in line with the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals, which aim to close gaps in essential services and ensure quality of life. The reality in Spain, and more specifically in the Principality of Asturias, is that most resources are concentrated in urban areas rather than rural ones, partly due to the region’s geography. Background/Objectives: This study aimed to explore the perspectives of various stakeholders on the early childhood care system in the Principality of Asturias (Spain), with the purpose of analyzing the mechanisms and determinants involved in its functioning and identifying opportunities for improvement. Methods: A qualitative study was conducted using the theoretical framework of the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) as a conceptual basis. Semi-structured interviews were carried out with 24 participants selected based on their relationship with early childhood care systems, encompassing different levels of responsibility and operational roles. Data were analyzed using a phenomenological approach, employing inductive and deductive coding to identify recurring patterns and code co-occurrences within ATLAS.ti software. Conclusions: This study reveals major barriers to equitable early childhood intervention (ECI) in rural areas, such as geographic isolation, lack of specialists, long waiting times, and poor transport. Six key themes emerged, including the need for standardized system management, better family support, and digital tools like centralized electronic health records. Rural areas are directly limited regarding their access to services, highlighting the need for fair territorial planning and a holistic, inclusive care model. Improving coordination, accessibility, and technology is vital. Full article

Based on Automation ML (AML), Intelligent Production Lines (IPLs) for Industry 4.0 can effectively organize multi-dimensional data and models. However, this process requires interdisciplinary and multi-team contributions, which often involve the dual pressures of private data encryption and public data sharing. As a transparent decentralized network, blockchain’s compatibility with the challenges of AML collaboration processes, data security, and privacy is not ideal. This paper proposes a new method to enhance the collaborative evolution of IPLs. Its innovations are, firstly, developing a comprehensive two-layer management model, combining blockchain with the Interplanetary File System (IPFS) to build an integrated solution for private and public hybrid containers based on a collaborative model; secondly, designing a version co-evolution management method by combining smart contract workflows and AML multi-dimensional modeling processes; meanwhile, introducing a specially designed conflict resolution mechanism based on the graph model to maintain consistency in version multi-batch management and; finally, using the test cases established in the lab’s I5Blocks for verification.
