This paper presents the design and implementation of a high-efficiency, full silicon carbide (SiC)-based center-tapped phase-shifted full-bridge (PSFB) converter for NiCd battery charging applications in railway systems. The converter utilizes SiC MOSFET modules on the primary side and SiC diodes on the secondary side, resulting in significant efficiency improvements due to the superior switching characteristics and high-temperature tolerance inherent in SiC devices. A nanocrystalline-cored center-tapped transformer is optimized to minimize voltage stress on the rectifier diodes. Additionally, the use of a nanocrystalline core provides high saturation flux density, low core loss, and excellent permeability, particularly at high frequencies, which significantly enhances system efficiency. The converter also compensates for temperature fluctuations during operation, enabling a wide and adjustable output voltage range according to the temperature differences. A prototype of the 10-kW, 50-kHz PSFB converter, operating with an input voltage range of 700–750 V and output voltage of 77–138 V, was developed and tested both through simulations and experimentally. The converter achieved a maximum efficiency of 97% and demonstrated a high power density of 2.23 kW/L, thereby validating the effectiveness of the proposed design for railway battery charging applications. Accurate Doppler frequency estimation for Low Earth Orbit (LEO)-based Signals of Opportunity (SoOP) positioning faces significant challenges from extreme dynamics (±40 kHz Doppler shift, 0.4 Hz/ms fluctuation) and severe SNR fluctuations induced by multi-beam switching. Empirical analysis reveals that phased-array beamforming generates three-tiered SNR fluctuation patterns during unpredictable beam handovers, rendering conventional single-algorithm solutions fundamentally inadequate. To address this limitation, we propose KDFE (KNN-Driven Fusion Estimator)—an adaptive framework integrating the Rife–Vincent algorithm and MLE via intelligent switching. Global FFT processing extracts real-time Doppler-SNR parameter pairs, while a KNN-based arbiter dynamically selects the optimal estimator by: (1) Projecting parameter pairs into historical performance space, (2) Identifying the accuracy-optimal algorithm for current beam conditions, and (3) Executing real-time switching to balance accuracy and robustness. This decision model overcomes the accuracy-robustness trade-off by matching algorithmic strengths to beam-specific dynamics, ensuring optimal performance during abrupt SNR transitions and high Doppler rates. Both simulations and field tests demonstrate KDFE’s dual superiority: Doppler estimation errors were reduced by 26.3% (vs. Rife–Vincent) and 67.9% (vs. MLE), and 3D positioning accuracy improved by 13.6% (vs. Rife–Vincent) and 49.7% (vs. MLE). The study establishes a pioneering framework for adaptive LEO-SoOP positioning, delivering a methodological breakthrough for LEO navigation. Full article

This paper presents an accurate analysis of the power losses of an interior permanent magnet synchronous motor fed by a cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverter. The main goal of this study is to investigate the impact of the cascaded h-bridge inverter, multicarrier PWM strategies, and inverter switching frequency on the synchronous motor power losses. With this aim in mind, a detailed frequency domain power analysis was carried out on motor power losses at different operating points in the frequency–torque plane. Motor power losses were further categorized into fundamental and harmonic power losses. This evaluation involved driving the power converter using six distinct multicarrier PWM strategies at four different switching frequencies. Additionally, a comparison was conducted with a conventional two-level PWM inverter to quantify the reduction in motor power losses. The experimental results show that the cascaded h-bridge inverter guarantees a notable increase in the motor efficiency, up to 7%, and losses in segregation at the fundamental frequency, if compared to the standard two-level PWM inverter, especially at low speed and with partial-load conditions. Such results mark out the cascaded H-bridge inverter as a valuable choice, also with regard to low-voltage drive applications. Full article

Silicon carbide (SiC) half-bridge power modules are widely utilized in new energy power generation, electric vehicles, and industrial power supplies. To address the research gap in collaborative validation between electro-thermal coupling models and process reliability, this paper proposes a closed-loop methodology of “design-simulation-process-validation”. This approach integrates in-depth electro-thermal simulation (LTspice XVII/COMSOL Multiphysics 6.3) with micro/nano-packaging processes (sintering/bonding). Firstly, a multifunctional double-pulse test board was designed for the dynamic characterization of SiC devices. LTspice simulations revealed the switching characteristics under an 800 V operating condition. Subsequently, a thermal simulation model was constructed in COMSOL to quantify the module junction temperature gradient (25 °C → 80 °C). Key process parameters affecting reliability were then quantified, including conductive adhesive sintering (S820-F680, 39.3 W/m·K), high-temperature baking at 175 °C, and aluminum wire bonding (15 mil wire diameter and 500 mW ultrasonic power/500 g bonding force). Finally, a double-pulse dynamic test platform was established to capture switching transient characteristics. Experimental results demonstrated the following: (1) The packaged module successfully passed the 800 V high-voltage validation. Measured drain current (4.62 A) exhibited an error of <0.65% compared to the simulated value (4.65 A). (2) The simulated junction temperature (80 °C) was significantly below the safety threshold (175 °C). (3) Microscopic examination using a Leica IVesta 3 microscope (55× magnification) confirmed the absence of voids at the sintering and bonding interfaces. (4) Frequency-dependent dynamic characterization revealed a 6 nH parasitic inductance via Ansys Q3D 2025 R1 simulation, with experimental validation at 8.3 nH through double-pulse testing. Thermal evaluations up to 200 kHz indicated 109 °C peak temperature (below 175 °C datasheet limit) and low switching losses. This work provides a critical process benchmark for the micro/nano-manufacturing of high-density SiC modules. Full article

This study presents a comprehensive mathematical model of a semiconductor structure based on vanadium dioxide (VO2), specifically in its conductive phase. The model was developed using the finite element method (FEM), enabling detailed simulation of the formation of a conductive channel under the influence of low-frequency alternating voltage (50 Hz). The VO2 structure under investigation exhibits pronounced electric field concentration at the surface, where the field strength reaches approximately 5 × 104 V/m, while maintaining a more uniform distribution of around 2 × 104 V/m within the bulk of the material. The simulation results were validated experimentally using a test circuit. Minor deviations—no greater than 8%—were observed between the simulated and measured current values, attributed to magnetic core saturation and modeling assumptions. A distinctive feature of the model is its ability to incorporate the nonlinear dependencies of VO2’s electrical properties on frequency. Analytical expressions were derived for the magnetic permeability and resistivity of VO2, demonstrating excellent agreement with experimental data. The coefficients of determination (R2) for the frequency dependence of magnetic permeability and resistance were found to be 0.9976 and 0.9999, respectively. The current version of the model focuses exclusively on the conductive phase and does not include the thermally induced metal–insulator phase transition characteristic of VO2. The study confirms that VO2-based structures exhibit high responsiveness and nonlinear switching behavior, making them suitable for applications in electronic surge protection, current limiting, and switching elements. The developed model provides a reliable and physically grounded tool for the design and optimization components based on VO2 in power electronics and protective circuitry. Full article

Hub motor-driven vehicles (HMDVs) suffer from poor handling and stability due to an increased unsprung mass and unbalanced radial electromagnetic forces. Although traditional ground-hook control reduces the dynamic tire load, it severely worsens the body acceleration. This paper presents a generalized ground-hook control strategy based on impedance transfer functions to address the parameter redundancy in structural methods. A quarter-vehicle model with a switched reluctance motor wheel hub drive was used to study different orders of generalized ground-hook impedance transfer function control strategies for dynamic inertial suspension. An enhanced fish swarm parameter optimization method identified the optimal solutions for different structural orders. Analyses showed that the third-order control strategy optimized the body acceleration by 2%, reduced the dynamic tire load by 8%, and decreased the suspension working space by 22%. This strategy also substantially lowered the power spectral density for the body acceleration and dynamic tire load in the low-frequency band of 1.2 Hz. Additionally, it balanced computational complexity and performance, having slightly higher complexity than lower-order methods but much less than higher-order structures, meeting real-time constraints. To address time-domain deviations from generalized ground-hook control in semi-active systems, a dynamic compensation strategy was proposed: eight topological structures were created by modifying the spring–damper structure. A deviation correction mechanism was devised based on the frequency-domain coupling characteristics between the wheel speed and suspension relative velocity. For ride comfort and road-friendliness, a dual-frequency control criterion was introduced: in the low-frequency range, energy transfer suppression and phase synchronization locking were realized by constraining the ground-hook damping coefficient or inertance coefficient, while in the high-frequency range, the inertia-dominant characteristic was enhanced, and dynamic phase adaptation was permitted to mitigate road excitations. The results show that only the T0 and T5 structures met dynamic constraints across the frequency spectrum. Time-domain simulations showed that the deviation between the T5 structure and the third-order generalized ground-hook impedance model was relatively small, outperforming traditional and T0 structures, validating the model’s superior adaptability in high-order semi-active suspension. With the rapid advancement of digitalization and intelligence in power systems, SF6 high-voltage circuit breakers, as the core switching devices in power grid protection systems, have become critical components in high-voltage networks of 110 kV and above due to their superior insulation performance and exceptional arc-quenching capability. Their operational status directly impacts the reliability of power system protection. Therefore, real-time condition monitoring and accurate assessment of SF6 circuit breakers along with science-based maintenance strategies derived from evaluation results hold significant engineering value for ensuring secure and stable grid operation and preventing major failures. In recent years, the frequency of extreme weather events has been increasing, necessitating a comprehensive consideration of both internal and external factors in the operational status prediction of SF6 high-voltage circuit breakers. To address this, we propose an operational status assessment model for SF6 high-voltage circuit breakers based on an Integrated Attribute-Weighted Risk Model Based on the Branch–Trunk Rule (IAR-BTR), which integrates internal and environmental influences. Firstly, to tackle the issues of incomplete data and feature imbalance caused by irrelevant attributes, this study employs missing value elimination (Drop method) on the fault record database. The selected dataset is then normalized according to the input feature matrix. Secondly, conventional risk factors are extracted using traditional association rule mining techniques. To improve the accuracy of these rules, the filtering thresholds and association metrics are refined based on seasonal distribution and the importance of time periods. This allows for the identification of spatiotemporally non-stationary factors that are strongly correlated with circuit breaker failures in low-probability seasonal conditions. Finally, a quantitative weighting method is developed for analyzing branch-trunk rules to accurately assess the impact of various factors on the overall stability of the circuit breaker. The DFP-Growth algorithm is applied to enhance the computational efficiency of the model. The case study results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves exceptional accuracy (95.78%) and precision (97.22%) and significantly improves the predictive performance of SF6 high-voltage circuit breaker operational condition assessments. Brushless DC (BLDC) motors are widely used in applications such as Electric Vehicles (EVs) due to their high efficiency, low maintenance, and favorable torque-to-mass ratio. However, one major challenge in BLDC motors is the presence of current harmonics, which can lead to increased noise, vibration, and reduced efficiency, particularly at low speeds or light loads. These harmonics primarily arise from abrupt current transitions during phase commutation. To address this, thispaper presents an innovative approach that combines the Proposed Sigmoid Trapezoidal Current Model with hysteresis control to reduce current harmonics. The model facilitates smooth current changes by applying a sigmoid function, replacing sharp transitions with gradual ones, thus significantly minimizing harmonic distortion. Additionally, hysteresis PWM control enhances the system by precisely regulating the current and dynamically adjusting the switching frequency to maintain the current within a defined range. Simulation results confirm the effectiveness of this method, showing substantial reductions in current harmonics, speed ripple, and torque ripple. Specifically, the proposed method reduces torque ripple by 81% compared to traditional Electronic Commutation Control and improves torque ripple by 30% compared to the conventional method. Digital control in UPS systems is currently the only reasonable way of controlling a voltage source inverter (VSI). The control frequency range is restricted to up to about 1 kHz owing to the output low-pass LC filter, which should also maintain the output voltage during one switching period for the step unload. The measurement channels in the low-pass frequency range can be modeled as delays equal to some switching periods. A reasonably high (about 50 kHz) switching frequency minimizes the delays of the measurement channels. Two control systems will be compared—the pure discrete control, in this case a one-sample-ahead preview deadbeat control (OSAP), and a discretized passivity-based control (PBC). The OSAP control is easy to realize, is very fast, and enables one to obtain a steady state in a restricted number of steps after disturbance. However, the single-input single-output deadbeat control version is useless because it depends very strongly on the parameters of the inverter. The multi-input single-output OSAP (MISO-OSAP) control is directly based on discrete state equations (we treat the output voltage, output current, and inductor current as the measured state variables) and works perfectly for the nonlinear rectifier RC load (PF = 0.7) in a system without delay. The version of this with a linear prediction of state variables by means of a full-order state Luenberger observer (MISO-OSAP-LO) will be used in systems with different delays and compared with the discretized MISO passivity-based control without prediction for relatively high switching frequency (about 50 kHz). The aim and the novelty of the paper are in enabling a choice between one of these control systems for high switching frequency VSI with delays in the measurement channels. Full article

The four-switch buck–boost (FSBB) converter, which possesses both step-up and step-down capabilities, is highly suitable for applications where input and output voltages have overlapping ranges. Correspondingly, the current shaping control (CSC) strategy is investigated for the FSBB converter, which shapes a quadrilateral inductor current waveform featuring the minimum RMS value to improve efficiency and power density. However, the small-signal model for the CSC algorithm has not yet been established, and the traditional and common modeling method requires considering multiple duty cycles and phase shifts of the FSBB converter, whose calculation is complex and inconvenient to use. For the special case of the CSC strategy using cycle-by-cycle current detection, an additional constraint of the averaged volt-second on the inductor can be regarded as zero, making the inductor current no longer a variable of the state-space, which eliminates the pole generated by the inductor and reduces the order of the small-signal model. Thus, this paper greatly simplifies the computation and design of the compensator by using the constraint condition mentioned above. This one-pole first-order model is simplified, maintains enough accuracy in the low-frequency domain, and can be corrected using only a simple PI controller. Finally, a prototype of the 300 W FSBB converter under the digital CSC algorithm was built to validate the precision and dynamic performance of the proposed first-order small-signal model. The microbiological safety of milk can be ensured through heat processing; however, this method has a negative effect on the sensory profile of this food product. Emerging technologies could be used as an alternative process for guaranteeing innocuity and maintaining sensory changes. An alternative is to evaluate pulsed electric field (PEF) electroporation, which is a method of processing cells using short pulses of a strong electric field. PEF has the potential to be a type of alternative low-temperature pasteurization process that consists of high-frequency voltage pulsations. Specifically, the presented work is a proof of concept for the design of a converter capable of generating a PEF to feed a load that meets the impedance characteristics of milk. The proposed converter is simulated using PLECS software (4.9.6 version) under impedance change scenarios that emulate variations in milk throughout the entire process. This research proposes the modification of a classic Vienna rectifier (adding an MBC—Multilevel Boost Converter structure) to supply a pulsating signal that could be used for low-temperature processes of milk to guarantee proper pasteurization. The characteristics of the generated high-voltage pulse make it feasible to quickly process the real sample. The control law design considers a regulation loop to achieve a voltage in the range of kV and a switching-type control law that activates switches in MMC arrays. These switches are activated randomly to avoid transients that cause significant stress on them. Full article

When connecting a renewable energy source to a medium-voltage grid, it has to fulfil grid codes and be able to work in a medium-voltage range (>10 kV). Multilevel converters (MLCs) are recognized for their low total harmonic distortion (THD) and ability to work at high voltage compared to other converter types, making them ideal for applications connected to medium-voltage grids whilst being compliant with grid codes and voltage ratings. Cascaded H-bridge multilevel converters (CHBs-MLC) are a type of MLC topology, and they does not need any capacitors or diodes for clamping like other MLC topologies. One of the problems in these types of converters involves the double-frequency harmonics in the DC linking voltage and power, which can increase the size of the capacitors and converters. The use of line frequency transformers for isolation is another factor that increases the system’s size. This paper proposes an isolated CHBs-MLC topology that effectively overcomes double-line frequency harmonics and offers isolation. In the proposed topology, each DC source (renewable energy source) supplies a three-phase load rather than a single-phase load that is seen in conventional MLCs. This is achieved by employing a multi-winding high-frequency transformer (HFT). The primary winding consists of a winding connected to the DC sources. The secondary windings consist of three windings, each supplying one phase of the load. This configuration reduces the DC voltage link ripples, thus improving the power quality. Photovoltaic (PV) renewable energy sources are considered as the DC sources. A case study of a 1.0 MW and 13.8 kV photovoltaic (PV) system is presented, considering two scenarios: variations in solar irradiation and 25% partial panel shedding. The simulations and design results show the benefits of the proposed topology, including a seven-fold reduction in capacitor volume, a 2.7-fold reduction in transformer core volume, a 50% decrease in the current THD, and a 30% reduction in the voltage THD compared to conventional MLCs. The main challenge of the proposed topology is the use of more switches compared to conventional MLCs. However, with advancing technology, the cost is expected to decrease over time. Full article

Physics-Guided Self-Supervised Learning Full Waveform Inversion with Pretraining on Simultaneous Source

Full waveform inversion (FWI) is an established precise velocity estimation tool for seismic exploration. Machine learning-based FWI could plausibly circumvent the long-standing cycle-skipping problem of traditional model-driven methods. The physics-guided self-supervised FWI is appealing in that it avoids having to make tedious efforts in terms of label generation for supervised methods. One way is to employ an inversion network to convert the seismic shot gathers into a velocity model. The objective function is to minimize the difference between the recorded seismic data and the synthetic data by solving the wave equation using the inverted velocity model. To further improve the efficiency, we propose a two-stage training strategy for the self-supervised learning FWI. The first stage is to pretrain the inversion network using a simultaneous source for a large-scale velocity model with high efficiency. The second stage is switched to modeling the separate shot gathers for an accurate measurement of the seismic data to invert the velocity model details. The inversion network is a partial convolution attention modified UNet (PCAMUNet), which combines local feature extraction with global information integration to achieve high-resolution velocity model estimation from seismic shot gathers. The time-domain 2D acoustic wave equation serves as the physical constraint in this self-supervised framework. Different loss functions are used for the two stages, that is, the waveform loss with time weighting for the first stage (simultaneous source) and the hybrid waveform with time weighting and logarithmic envelope loss for the second stage (separate source). Comparative experiments demonstrate that the proposed approach improves both inversion accuracy and efficiency on the Marmousi2 model, Overthrust model, and BP model tests. Moreover, the method exhibits excellent noise resistance and stability when low-frequency data component is missing. Full article

This paper introduces a novel neuromorphic-inspired hyper-heuristic framework (NeuHH) for solving the Capacitated Single-Allocation p-Hub Location Routing Problem (CSAp-HLRP), a challenging combinatorial optimization problem that jointly addresses hub location decisions, capacity constraints, and vehicle routing. The proposed framework employs Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs) as the decision-making core, leveraging their temporal dynamics and spike-timing-dependent plasticity (STDP) to guide the real-time selection and adaptation of low-level heuristics. Unlike conventional learning-based hyper-heuristics, NeuHH provides biologically plausible, event-driven learning with improved scalability and interpretability. Experimental results on benchmark instances demonstrate that NeuHH outperforms classical metaheuristics, Lagrangian relaxation methods, and reinforcement learning-based hyper-heuristics. Specifically, NeuHH achieves superior performance in total cost minimization (up to 13.6% reduction), load balance improvement (achieving a load balance factor of as low as 1.04), and heuristic adaptability (reflected by higher heuristic switching frequency). These results highlight the framework’s potential for real-time and energy-efficient logistics optimization in large-scale dynamic networks. Full article

While extensive research has addressed electromechanical systems interacting with power electronic converters, most studies lack a unified modeling framework that simultaneously captures converter switching behavior, nonlinear dynamics, and linearized control-oriented representations. In particular, the dynamic interaction between two-level full-bridge converters and angular-motion electromechanical switching devices (EMDs) is often simplified or abstracted, thereby limiting control system design and frequency-domain analysis. This work presents a comprehensive dynamic modeling methodology for an angular-motion EMD driven by a full-bridge dc-dc converter. The modeling framework includes (i) a detailed nonlinear switching model, (ii) an averaged nonlinear model suitable for control design, and (iii) a small-signal linearized model for deriving transfer functions and evaluating system stability. The proposed models are rigorously validated through time-domain simulations and Bode frequency analysis, confirming both theoretical equilibrium points and dynamic characteristics such as resonant frequencies and phase margins. The results demonstrate strong consistency across the modeling hierarchy and reveal critical features—such as ripple-induced resonance and low-frequency coupling—that are essential for robust controller design. This framework established a foundational tool for advancing the control and optimization of electromechanical switching systems in high-performance applications. Full article
