Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) are a critical aspect of intelligent transportation systems, improving safety and comfort for drivers. These networks enhance the driving experience by offering timely information vital for safety and comfort. Yet, VANETs come with their own set of challenges concerning security, privacy, and design reliability. Traditionally, vehicle authentication occurs every time a vehicle enters the domain of the roadside unit (RSU). In our study, we suggest that authentication should take place only when a vehicle has not covered a set distance, increasing system efficiency. The rise of the Internet of Things (IoT) has seen an upsurge in the use of IoT devices across various fields, including smart cities, healthcare, and vehicular IoT. These devices, while gathering environmental data and networking, often face reliability issues without a trusted intermediary. Our study delves deep into implementing Teegraph in VANETs to enhance authentication. Given the integral role of VANETs in Intelligent Transportation Systems and their inherent challenges, we turn to Hashgraph—an alternative to blockchain. Hashgraph offers a decentralized, secure, and trustworthy database. We introduce an efficient authentication system, which triggers only when a vehicle has not traversed a set distance, optimizing system efficiency. Moreover, we shed light on the indispensable role Hashgraph can occupy in the rapidly expanding IoT landscape. Lastly, we present Teegraph, a novel Hashgraph-based technology, as a superior alternative to blockchain, ensuring a streamlined, scalable authentication solution. Our approach leverages the logical key hierarchy (LKH) and packet update keys to ensure data privacy and integrity in vehicular networks. Full article

Efficient task offloading for delay-sensitive applications, such as autonomous driving, presents a significant challenge in multi-hop Vehicular Edge Computing (VEC) networks, primarily due to high vehicle mobility, dynamic network topologies, and complex end-to-end congestion problems. To address these issues, this paper proposes a graph attention-based reinforcement learning algorithm, named GAPO. The algorithm models the dynamic VEC network as an attributed graph and utilizes a graph neural network (GNN) to learn a network state representation that captures the global topological structure and node contextual information. Building on this foundation, an attention-based Actor–Critic framework makes joint offloading decisions by intelligently selecting the optimal destination and collaboratively determining the ratios for offloading and resource allocation. A multi-objective reward function, designed to minimize task latency and to alleviate link congestion, guides the entire learning process. Comprehensive simulation experiments and ablation studies show that, compared to traditional heuristic algorithms and standard deep reinforcement learning methods, GAPO significantly reduces average task completion latency and substantially decreases backbone link congestion. In conclusion, by deeply integrating the state-aware capabilities of GNNs with the decision-making abilities of DRL, GAPO provides an efficient, adaptive, and congestion-aware solution to the resource management problems in dynamic VEC environments. Critical Internet of Things (IoT) data in Fifth Generation Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (5G VANETs) demands Ultra-Reliable Low-Latency Communication (URLLC) to support mission-critical vehicular applications such as autonomous driving and collision avoidance. Achieving the stringent Quality of Service (QoS) requirements for these applications remains a significant challenge. This paper proposes a novel framework integrating Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Functions Virtualisation (NFV) as embedded functionalities in connected vehicles. A lightweight SDN Controller model, implemented via vehicle on-board computing resources, optimised QoS for communications between connected vehicles and the Next-Generation Node B (gNB), achieving a consistent packet delivery rate of 100%, compared to 81–96% for existing solutions leveraging SDN. Furthermore, a Software-Defined Wide-Area Network (SD-WAN) model deployed at the gNB enabled the efficient management of data, network, identity, and server access. Performance evaluations indicate that SDN and NFV are reliable and scalable technologies for virtualised and distributed 5G VANET infrastructures. Our SDN-based in-vehicle traffic classification model for dynamic resource allocation achieved 100% accuracy, outperforming existing Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based methods with 88–99% accuracy. In addition, a significant increase of 187% in flow rates over time highlights the framework’s decreasing latency, adaptability, and scalability in supporting URLLC class guarantees for critical vehicular services. Emerging transportation challenges necessitate cutting-edge technologies for real-time infrastructure and traffic monitoring. To create a dynamic digital twin for intersection monitoring, data gathering, performance assessment, and calibration of microsimulation software, this study presents a state-of-the-art platform that combines high-resolution LiDAR sensor data with VISSIM simulation software. Intending to track traffic flow and evaluate important factors, including congestion, delays, and lane configurations, the platform gathers and analyzes real-time data. The technology allows proactive actions to improve safety and reduce interruptions by utilizing the comprehensive information that LiDAR provides, such as vehicle trajectories, speed profiles, and lane changes. The digital twin technique offers unparalleled precision in traffic and infrastructure state monitoring by fusing real data streams with simulation-based performance analysis. The results show how the platform can transform real-time monitoring and open the door to data-driven decision-making, safer intersections, and more intelligent traffic data collection methods. Using the proposed platform, this study calibrated a VISSIM simulation network to optimize the driving behavior parameters in the software. This study addresses current issues in urban traffic management with real-time solutions, demonstrating the revolutionary impact of emerging technology in intelligent infrastructure monitoring. Vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication is a fundamental technology in the development of intelligent transportation systems, encompassing vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V), infrastructure (V2I), and pedestrian (V2P) communications. This technology enables connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs) to interact with their surroundings, significantly enhancing road safety, traffic efficiency, and driving comfort. However, as V2X communication becomes more widespread, it becomes a prime target for adversarial and persistent cyberattacks, posing significant threats to the security and privacy of CAVs. These challenges are compounded by the dynamic nature of vehicular networks and the stringent requirements for real-time data processing and decision-making. Much research is on using novel technologies such as machine learning, blockchain, and cryptography to secure V2X communications. Our survey highlights the security challenges faced by V2X communications and assesses current ML and blockchain-based solutions, revealing significant gaps and opportunities for improvement. Specifically, our survey focuses on studies integrating ML, blockchain, and multi-access edge computing (MEC) for low latency, robust, and dynamic security in V2X networks. Based on our findings, we outline a conceptual framework that synergizes ML, blockchain, and MEC to address some of the identified security challenges. This integrated framework demonstrates the potential for real-time anomaly detection, decentralized data sharing, and enhanced system scalability. The survey concludes by identifying future research directions and outlining the remaining challenges for securing V2X communications in the face of evolving threats. Full article

In intelligent vehicular networks, the accuracy of semantic segmentation in road scenes is crucial for vehicle-mounted artificial intelligence to achieve environmental perception, decision support, and safety control. Although deep learning methods have made significant progress, two main challenges remain: first, the difficulty in balancing global and local features leads to blurred object boundaries and misclassification; second, conventional convolutions have limited ability to perceive irregular objects, causing information loss and affecting segmentation accuracy. To address these issues, this paper proposes a global–local collaborative attention module and a spider web convolution module. The former enhances feature representation through bidirectional feature interaction and dynamic weight allocation, reducing false positives and missed detections. The latter introduces an asymmetric sampling topology and six-directional receptive field paths to effectively improve the recognition of irregular objects. Experiments on the Cityscapes, CamVid, and BDD100K datasets, collected using vehicle-mounted cameras, demonstrate that the proposed method performs excellently across multiple evaluation metrics, including mIoU, mRecall, mPrecision, and mAccuracy. Comparative experiments with classical segmentation networks, attention mechanisms, and convolution modules validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. The proposed method demonstrates outstanding performance in sensor-based semantic segmentation tasks and is well-suited for environmental perception systems in autonomous driving. Full article

Intelligent driving technology is expected to reshape urban transportation, but its promotion is hindered by user acceptance challenges and diverse technical routes. This study proposes a comprehensive user acceptance evaluation framework for intelligent driving from the perspective of value engineering (VE). The novelty of this framework lies in three aspects: (1) It unifies behavioral theory and utility theory under the value engineering framework, and it extracts key indicators such as safety, travel efficiency, trust, comfort, and cost, thus addressing the issue of the lack of integration between subjective and objective factors in previous studies. (2) It establishes a systematic mapping mechanism from technical solutions to evaluation indicators, filling the gap of insufficient targeting at different technical routes in the existing literature. (3) It quantifies acceptance differences via VE’s core formula of V = F/C, overcoming the ambiguity of non-technical evaluation in prior research. A case study comparing single-vehicle intelligence vs. collaborative intelligence and different sensor combinations (vision-only, map fusion, and lidar fusion) shows that collaborative intelligence and vision-based solutions offer higher comprehensive acceptance due to balanced functionality and cost. This framework guides enterprises in technical strategy planning and assists governments in formulating industrial policies by quantifying acceptance differences across technical routes. Full article

Automated vehicles controlled by artificial intelligence are becoming capable of making moral decisions independently. This study investigates the differences in participants’ perceptions of the moral decision-maker’s permissibility when viewing scenarios (pre-test) and after witnessing the outcomes of moral decisions (post-test). It also investigates how permissibility, ten typical moral emotions, and perceived moral agency fluctuate when AI and the human driver make deontological or utilitarian decisions in a pedestrian-sacrificing dilemma (Experiment 1, N = 254) and a driver-sacrificing dilemma (Experiment 2, N = 269) from a third-person perspective. Moreover, by conducting binary logistic regression, this study examined whether these factors could predict the non-decrease in permissibility ratings. In both experiments, participants preferred to delegate decisions to human drivers rather than to AI, and they generally preferred utilitarianism over deontology. The results of perceived moral emotions and moral agency provide evidence. Moreover, Experiment 2 elicited greater variations in permissibility, moral emotions, and perceived moral agency compared to Experiment 1. Moreover, deontology and gratitude could positively predict the non-decrease in permissibility ratings in Experiment 1, while contempt had a negative influence. In Experiment 2, the human driver and disgust were significant negative predictor factors, while perceived moral agency had a positive influence. These findings deepen the comprehension of the dynamic processes of autonomous driving’s moral decision-making and facilitate understanding of people’s attitudes toward moral machines and their underlying reasons, providing a reference for developing more sophisticated moral machines. Intelligent driving is a key technology in the field of automotive manufacturing due to its advantages in environmental protection, energy efficiency, and economy. However, since the intelligent driving model is an uncertain multi-input multi-output dynamic system, especially in an interactive environment, it faces uncertainties such as non-uniform trial lengths, unknown nonlinear parameters, and unknown control direction. In this paper, an adaptive iterative learning control method is proposed for vehicle systems with non-uniform trial lengths and asymmetric control gain matrices. Unlike the existing research on adaptive iterative learning for non-uniform test lengths, this paper assumes that the elements of the system’s control gain matrix are asymmetric. Therefore, the assumption made in traditional adaptive iterative learning methods that the control gain matrix of the system is known or real, symmetric, and positive definite (or negative definite) is relaxed. Finally, to prove the convergence of the system, a composite energy function is designed, and the effectiveness of the adaptive iterative learning method is verified using vehicle systems. This paper aims to address the challenges in intelligent driving control and decision-making caused by environmental and system uncertainties and provides a theoretical basis and technical support for intelligent driving, promoting the high-quality development of intelligent transportation. The electromechanical braking (EMB) system is an important component of intelligent vehicles and is also the core actuator for longitudinal dynamic control in autonomous driving motion control. Therefore, we propose a new mechanism layout form for EMB and a feedforward second-order linear active disturbance rejection controller based on clamping force. This solves the problem of excessive axial distance in traditional EMB and reduces the axial distance by 30%, while concentrating the PCB control board for the wheels on the EMB housing. This enables the ABS and ESP functions to be integrated into the EMB system, further enhancing the integration of line control and active safety functions. A feedforward second-order linear active disturbance rejection controller (LADRC) based on the clamping force of the brake caliper is proposed. Compared with the traditional clamping force control methods three-loop PID and adaptive fuzzy PID, it improves the response speed, steady-state error, and anti-interference ability. Moreover, the LADRC has more advantages in parameter adjustment. Simulation results show that the response speed is increased by 130 ms, the overshoot is reduced by 9.85%, and the anti-interference ability is increased by 41.2%. Finally, the feasibility of this control algorithm was verified through the EMB hardware-in-the-loop test bench. Full article

With the rapid development of intelligent transportation, accurately predicting vehicle trajectories is crucial for ensuring road safety and enhancing traffic efficiency. This paper proposes a trajectory prediction model that integrates a diffusion model framework with trajectory features of target and neighboring vehicles, as well as driving intentions. The model uses historical trajectories of the target and adjacent vehicles as input, employs Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks to extract temporal features, and dynamically captures the interaction between the target and neighboring vehicles through a multi-head attention mechanism. An intention module regulates lateral offsets, and the diffusion framework selects the most probable trajectory from various possible predictions, thereby improving the model’s ability to handle complex scenarios. Experiments conducted on real traffic data demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms several representative models in terms of Average Displacement Error (ADE) and Final Displacement Error (FDE), without sacrificing efficiency. Notably, it exhibits higher robustness and predictive accuracy in high-interaction and uncertain scenarios, such as lane changes and overtaking. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first application of the diffusion framework in vehicle trajectory prediction. This study provides an efficient solution for vehicle trajectory prediction tasks. The average ADE within 1 to 5 s reached 0.199 m, while the average FDE within 1 to 5 s reached 0.437 m. Full article

With the development of electrification and intelligent technologies in vehicles, ride comfort issues represented by motion sickness have become a key constraint on the performance of autonomous driving. The occurrence of motion sickness is influenced by the comprehensive movement of the vehicle in the longitudinal, lateral, and vertical directions, involving ACC, LKA, active suspension, etc. Existing motion sickness control method focuses on optimizing the longitudinal, lateral, and vertical directions separately, or coordinating the optimization control of the longitudinal and lateral directions, while there is relatively little research on the coupling effect and coupled optimization of the longitudinal and vertical directions. This study proposes a coupled framework of ACC and active suspension control system based on MPC. By adding pitch angle changes caused by longitudinal acceleration to the suspension model, a coupled state equation of half-car vertical dynamics and ACC longitudinal dynamics is constructed to achieve integrated optimization of ACC and suspension for motion suppression. The suspension active forces and vehicle acceleration are regulated coordinately to optimize vehicle vertical, longitudinal, and pitch dynamics simultaneously. Simulation experiments show that compared to decoupled control of ACC and suspension, the integrated control framework can be more effective. The research results confirm that the dynamic coordination between the suspension and ACC system can effectively suppress the motion sickness, providing a new idea for solving the comfort conflict in the human vehicle environment coupling system. This research introduces an innovative passive vibration control methodology employing acoustic black hole (ABH) structures to mitigate vibration transmission in electric automotive steering machines—a prevalent issue adversely affecting driving comfort and vehicle safety. Leveraging the inherent bending wave manipulation properties of ABH configurations, we conceive an integrated vibration suppression framework synergizing advanced computational modeling with intelligent optimization algorithms. A high-fidelity finite element (FEM) model integrating ABH-attached steering machine system was developed and subjected to experimental validation via rigorous modal testing. To address computational challenges in design optimization, a hybrid modeling strategy integrating parametric design (using Latin Hypercube Sampling, LHS) with Kriging surrogate modeling is proposed. Systematic parameterization of ABH geometry and damping layer dimensions generated 40 training datasets and 12 validation datasets. Surrogate model verification confirms the model’s precise mapping of vibration characteristics across the design space. Subsequent multi-objective genetic algorithm optimization targeting RMS velocity suppression achieved substantial vibration attenuation (29.2%) compared to baseline parameters. The developed methodology provides automotive researchers and engineers with an efficient suitable design tool for vibration-sensitive automotive component design. Full article

Before the onset of global warming concerns, the idea of manufacturing electric vehicles on a large scale was not widely considered. However, electric vehicles offer several advantages that have garnered attention. They are environmentally friendly, with simpler drive systems compared to traditional fossil fuel vehicles. Additionally, electric vehicles are highly efficient, with an efficiency of around 90%, in contrast to fossil fuel vehicles, which have an efficiency of about 30% to 35%. The higher energy efficiency of electric vehicles contributes to lower operational costs, which, alongside regulatory incentives and shifting consumer preferences, has increased their strategic importance for many vehicle manufacturers. In this paper, we present a thematic literature review on electric vehicles charging station location planning and scheduling. A systematic literature review across various data sources in the area yielded ninety five research papers for the final review. The research results were analyzed thematically, and three key directions were identified, namely charging station deployment and placement, optimal allocation and scheduling of EV parking lots, and V2G and smart charging systems as the top three themes. Each theme was further investigated to identify key topics, ongoing works, and future trends. It has been found that optimization methods followed by simulation and multi-criteria decision-making are most commonly used for EV infrastructure planning. A multistakeholder perspective is often adopted in these decisions to minimize costs and address the range anxiety of users. The future trend is towards the integration of renewable energy in smart grids, uncertainty modeling of user demand, and use of artificial intelligence for service quality improvement. Full article

There has been a great need for replacing combustion-powered vehicles with electric vehicles (EV), and fully electric cars are meant to replace combustion engine cars. This has led to considerable research into improving the performance of EVs, especially via electric motor voltage control. A wide range of optimization algorithms have been used as traditional approaches, but the dynamic parameters of electric motors, impacted by temperature and different driving cycles, continue to be a problem. This study introduces an improved version of the Parrot Optimizer (IPO) aimed at enhancing voltage regulation in EVs. The algorithm can intelligently adjust certain motor parameters for adaptive management to maintain performance based on different situations. To ensure a stable and sustainable power supply for the powertrain of the EV, a photovoltaic (PV) system is used with energy storage batteries. Such an arrangement seeks to deliver permanent electric energy, a solution to traditional grid electricity reliance. This demonstrates the effectiveness of IPO, with the resultant motor performance remaining optimal despite parameter changes. It is also illustrated that energy production, by integrating PV systems, prevents excessive voltage line drops and thus voltage imbalances. The proposed intelligent controller is verified based on multiple simulations, demonstrating and ensuring significant improvements in EV efficiency and reliability. Full article
