The instantaneous AC-side output power of a two-stage single-phase inverter pulsates at twice the output voltage frequency, inducing second harmonic current (SHC) in the front-end DC–DC converter. While conventional SHC mitigation methods mainly focus on controller optimization for PWM-controlled DC–DC converters, LLC resonant converters, which have been widely adopted in two-stage single-phase inverters for high efficiency and soft-switching characteristics, lack tailored solutions due to frequency modulation complexities. To address this gap, this paper first analyzes the propagation mechanism of the SHC in terms of converter output impedance. Then, by simultaneously lowering the open-loop gain and increasing the output impedance of the DC–DC converter at 2fN, this paper proposes a hybrid SHC mitigation strategy that achieves low SHC and fast dynamic performance for frequency-modulated LLC converters. Finally, a 28 V DC to 220 V/50 Hz AC inverter was developed, and the experimental results verified the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy. Full article

The harmonized multi-sensor satellite data assists users by providing seamless analysis-ready data with enhanced temporal resolution. The Harmonized Landsat Sentinel (HLS) product has gained popularity due to the seamless integration of Landsat OLI and Sentinel-2 MSI, achieving a temporal resolution of 2.8 to 3.5 days. However, applications that require monitoring intervals of less than three days or cloudy data can limit the usage of HLS data. Gaofen-1 (GF-1) Wide Field of View (WFV) data provides the capacity further to enhance the data availability by harmonization with HLS. In this study, GF-1/WFV data is harmonized with HLS by employing deep learning-based conditional Generative Adversarial Networks (cGANs). The harmonized WFV data with HLS provides an average temporal resolution of 1.5 days (ranging from 1.2 to 1.7 days), whereas the temporal resolution of HLS varies from 2.8 to 3.5 days. This enhanced temporal resolution will benefit applications that require frequent monitoring. Various processes are employed in HLS to achieve seamless products from the Operational Land Imager (OLI) and Multispectral Imager (MSI). This study applies 6S atmospheric correction to obtain GF-1/WFV surface reflectance data, employs MFC cloud masking, resamples the data to 30 m, and performs geographical correction using AROP relative to HLS data, to align preprocessing with HLS workflows. Harmonization is achieved without using BRDF normalization and bandpass adjustment like in the HLS workflows; instead, cGAN learns cross-sensor reflectance mapping by utilizing a U-Net generator and a patchGAN discriminator. The harmonized GF-1/WFV data were compared to the reference HLS data using various quality indices, including SSIM, MBE, and RMSD, across 126 cloud-free validation tiles covering various land covers and seasons. Band-wise scatter plots, histograms, and visual image color quality were compared. All these indices, including the Sobel filter, histograms, and visual comparisons, indicated that the proposed method has effectively reduced the spectral discrepancies between the GF-1/WFV and HLS data. The Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR), which is connected in series between the power grid and the load, can rapidly compensate for voltage disturbances to maintain stable voltage at the load end. To enhance the energy supply capacity of the DVR and utilize its shared circuit topology with photovoltaic (PV) inverters—which enables the dual functions of voltage compensation and PV-storage power generation—this study integrates PV and energy storage as a coordinated energy unit into the DVR, forming a PV-storage-integrated DVR system. The core innovation of this system lies in extending the voltage disturbance detection capability of the DVR to include harmonics. By incorporating a Butterworth filtering module and voltage fluctuation tracking technology, high-precision disturbance identification is achieved, thereby supporting power balance control and functional coordination. Furthermore, a multi-mode-power coordinated regulation method is proposed, enabling dynamic switching between operating modes based on PV output. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate that the proposed system and strategy enable smooth mode transitions. This approach not only ensures reliable voltage compensation for sensitive loads but also enhances the grid-support capability of PV systems, offering an innovative technical solution for the integration of renewable energy and power quality management. Non-contact vital signs detection of the survivors based on bio-radar to identify their life states is significant for field search and rescue. However, when transportation is interrupted, rescue workers and equipment are unable to arrive at the disaster area promptly. In this paper, we report a hovering airborne radar for non-contact vital signs detection to overcome this challenge. The airborne radar system supports a wireless data link, enabling remote control and communication over distances of up to 3 km. In addition, a novel framework based on blind source separation is proposed for vital signals extraction. First, range migration caused by the platform motion is compensated for by the envelope alignment. Then, the respiratory waveform of the human target is extracted by the joint approximative diagonalization of eigenmatrices algorithm. Finally, the heartbeat signal is recovered by respiratory harmonic suppression through a feedback notch filter. The field experiment results demonstrate that the proposed method is capable of precisely extracting vital signals with outstanding robustness and adaptation in more cluttered environments. The work provides a technical basis for remote high-resolution vital signs detection to meet the increasing demands of actual rescue applications. Full article

Steady-State Visual Evoked Potentials (SSVEPs) have emerged as an efficient means of interaction in brain–computer interfaces (BCIs), achieving bioinspired efficient language output for individuals with aphasia. Addressing the underutilization of frequency information of SSVEPs and redundant computation by existing transformer-based deep learning methods, this paper analyzes signals from both the time and frequency domains, proposing a stacked encoder–decoder (SED) network architecture based on an xLSTM model and spatial attention mechanism, termed SED-xLSTM, which firstly applies xLSTM to the SSVEP speller field. This model takes the low-channel spectrogram as input and employs the filter bank technique to make full use of harmonic information. By leveraging a gating mechanism, SED-xLSTM effectively extracts and fuses high-dimensional spatial-channel semantic features from SSVEP signals. Experimental results on three public datasets demonstrate the superior performance of SED-xLSTM in terms of classification accuracy and information transfer rate, particularly outperforming existing methods under cross-validation across various temporal scales. This paper addresses the challenges encountered by grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) systems, including the stochastic behavior of the system, harmonic distortion, and variations in grid impedance. To this end, an in-depth technical and pedagogical analysis of three linear multivariable current control strategies is performed: proportional-integral (PI), proportional-resonant (PR), and deadbeat (DB). The study contributes to theoretical formulations, detailed system modeling, and controller tuning procedures, promoting a comprehensive understanding of their structures and performance. The strategies are investigated and compared in both the rotating (dq) and stationary (αβ) reference frames, offering a broad perspective on system behavior under various operating conditions. Additionally, an in-depth analysis of the PR controller is presented, highlighting its potential to regulate both positive- and negative-sequence components. This enables the development of more effective and robust tuning methodologies for steady-state and dynamic scenarios. The evaluation is conducted under three main conditions: steady-state operation, transient response to input power variations, and robustness analysis in the presence of grid parameter changes. The study examines the impact of each controller on the total harmonic distortion (THD) of the injected current, as well as on system stability margins and dynamic performance. Practical aspects that are often overlooked are also addressed, such as the modeling of the inverter and photovoltaic generator, the implementation of space vector pulse-width modulation (SVPWM), and the influence of the output LC filter capacitor. The control structures under analysis are validated through numerical simulations performed in MatLab® software (R2021b) using dedicated computational routines, enabling the identification of strategies that enhance performance and ensure compliance of grid-connected photovoltaic systems. The bulk linearization technique is a design strategy used to extend the linear region of a metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor (MOSFET) by increasing its saturation voltage through a composite structure and a gate biasing circuit. This allows us to develop compact and flexible pseudo-resistor elements for integrated circuit designs. In this paper we propose a new simple yet effective design approach, focused on the biasing circuit, that optimizes area, offset, and power consumption without altering the design complexity of the original solution. Post-layout simulations verify the presented design strategy, which is then applied for designing a band-pass filter for neural action potential acquisition. Results of harmonic distortion and noise analysis strengthen the validity of the proposed strategy. Full article

Adaptive Linear Neuron (ADALINE) is a well-known neural network method that has been utilized for generating a reference current intended to regulate the operation of shunt-typed active harmonic filters (SAHFs). These filters are essential for improving power quality by mitigating harmonic disturbances and restoring current waveform symmetry in power systems. While the latest variant, Simplified ADALINE, offers notable advantages over its predecessors, such as a reduced complexity and faster learning speed, its performance has primarily been evaluated under stable grid conditions, leaving its performance under distorted environments largely unexplored. To address this gap, this work introduces two key modifications to the Simplified ADALINE framework: (1) the integration of a new phase-tracking algorithm based on the concept of orthogonality and selective filtering, and (2) transitioning from the direct current control (DCC) to an indirect current control (ICC) mechanism. Test environments featuring distorted grids and nonlinear rectifier loads are simulated in MATLAB/Simulink software to evaluate the performance of the proposed method against the existing Simplified ADALINE method. The key findings demonstrate that the proposed method effectively handled harmonic distortion and noise disturbance. As a result, the associated SAHF achieved an additional reduction in %THD (by 10.77–13.78%), a decrease in reactive power (by 58.3 VAR–67 VAR), and improved grid synchronization with a smaller phase shift (by 0.9–1.2°), while also maintaining proper waveform symmetry even in challenging grid conditions. The voltage source converters convert the DC to AC in order to interface distributed generation units with the utility grid, typically using an LCL filter to smooth the modulated wave. However, the LCL filter can introduce resonance, potentially cause instability, and necessitate the use of damping techniques, such as active damping, which utilizes feedback from the current control loop to suppress resonance. This paper presents a comprehensive performance assessment of four current-feedback-based active damping (AD) techniques—converter current feedback (CCF), CCF with capacitor current feedback (CCFAD), grid current feedback (GCF), and GCF with capacitor current feedback (GCFAD)—under a broad range of realistic grid disturbances and low switching frequency conditions. Unlike prior works that often analyze individual feedback strategies in isolation, this study highlights and compares their dynamic behavior, robustness, and total harmonic distortion (THD) in eight operational scenarios. The results reveal the severe instability of GCF in the absence of damping and the superior inherent damping property of CCF while demonstrating the comparable effectiveness of GCFAD. Moreover, a simplified yet robust design methodology for the LCL filter is proposed, enabling the filter to maintain stability and performance even under significant variations in grid impedance. Additionally, a sensitivity analysis of switching frequency variation is included. The findings offer valuable insights into selecting and implementing robust active damping methods for grid-connected converters operating at constrained switching frequencies. The effectiveness of the proposed methods has been validated through both MATLAB/Simulink simulations and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing. Full article

This paper addresses the core contradiction in fault diagnosis of gearboxes in heavy-duty equipment, where it is challenging to achieve both lightweight and robustness in dynamic industrial environments. Current diagnostic algorithms often struggle with balancing computational efficiency and diagnostic accuracy, particularly in noisy and variable operating conditions. Many existing methods either rely on complex architectures that are computationally expensive or oversimplified models that lack robustness to environmental interference. A novel, lightweight, and robust diagnostic network, YConvFormer, is proposed. Firstly, a time–frequency joint input channel is introduced, which integrates time-domain waveforms and frequency-domain spectrums at the input layer. It incorporates an Efficient Channel Attention mechanism with dynamic weighting to filter noise in specific frequency bands, suppressing high-frequency noise and enhancing the complementary relationship between time–frequency features. Secondly, an axial-enhanced broadcast attention mechanism is proposed. It models long-range temporal dependencies through spatial axial modeling, expanding the receptive field of shock features, while channel axial reinforcement strengthens the interaction of harmonics across frequency bands. This mechanism refines temporal modeling with minimal computation. Finally, the YConvFormer lightweight architecture is proposed, which combines shallow feature processing with global–local modeling, significantly reducing computational load. The experimental results on the XJTU and SEU gearbox datasets show that the proposed method improves the average accuracy by 6.55% and 19.58%, respectively, compared to the best baseline model, LiteFormer. For the high-voltage AC port of power electronic transformer (HVAC-PET) with three-phase independent DC buses on the low-voltage side, a decoupling control strategy, concerning the influence of grid voltage imbalance, three-phase active-load imbalance, and high-order harmonic distortion, is proposed in this paper to simultaneously realize the functions of active power control, reactive power compensation, and active power filtering. In the outer power control loop, according to the distribution rule of decoupled average active power components in three phases, stability control for the sum of cluster average active power flows is realized by injecting positive-sequence active current, so as to control the average cluster voltage (i.e., the average of all the DC-link capacitor voltages), and by injecting negative-sequence current, the cluster average active power flows can be controlled individually to balance the three cluster voltages (i.e., the average of the DC-link capacitor voltages in each cluster). The negative-sequence reactive power component is considered to realize the reactive power compensation. In the inner current control loop, the fundamental and high-order harmonic components are uniformly controlled in the positive-sequence dq frame using the PI + VPIs (vector proportional integral) controller, and the harmonic filtering function is realized while the fundamental positive-sequence current is adjusted. Experiments performed on the 380 V/50 kVA laboratory HVAC-PET verify the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy. Full article

The fraction of absorbed photosynthetically active radiation (FAPAR) stands as a pivotal parameter within the Earth system, quantifying the energy exchange between vegetation and solar radiation. Accordingly, there is an urgent need for comprehensive validation studies to accurately quantify uncertainties and improve the reliability of FAPAR-based applications. This study validated five global FAPAR products, MOD15A2H, MYD15A2H, VNP15A2H, GEOV2, and GEOV3, over four boreal forest sites in North America. Qualitative quality flags (QQFs) and quantitative quality indicators (QQIs) of each product were analyzed. Time series high-resolution reference FAPAR maps were developed using the Harmonized Landsat and Sentinel-2 dataset. The reference FAPAR maps revealed a strong agreement with the in situ FAPAR from AmeriFlux (correlation coefficient (R) = 0.91; root mean square error (RMSE) = 0.06). The results revealed that global FAPAR products show similar uncertainties (RMSE: 0.16 ± 0.04) and moderate agreement with the reference FAPAR (R = 0.75 ± 0.10). On average, 34.47 ± 6.91% of the FAPAR data met the goal requirements of the Global Climate Observing System (GCOS), while 54.41 ± 6.89% met the threshold requirements of the GCOS. Deciduous forests perform better than evergreen forests, and the products tend to underestimate the reference data, especially for the beginning and end of growing seasons in evergreen forests. There are no obvious quality differences at different QQFs, and the relative QQI can be used to filter high-quality values. To enhance the regional applicability of global FAPAR products, further algorithm improvements and expanded validation efforts are essential. Full article

LCL (inductor–capacitor–inductor) filters are widely used in grid-connected inverters, particularly in electric vehicle (EV) battery-to-grid systems, for harmonic suppression but introduce resonance issues that compromise stability. This study presents a novel sensorless active damping strategy based on μ-synthesis control for EV batteries connected to the grid via LCL filters, eliminating the need for additional current sensors while preserving harmonic attenuation. A comprehensive state–space and process noise model enables accurate capacitor current estimation using only grid current and point-of-common-coupling (PCC) voltage measurements. The proposed method maintains robust performance under ±60% LCL parameter variations and integrates a proportional-resonant (PR) current controller for resonance suppression. Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) validation demonstrates enhanced stability in dynamic grid conditions, with total harmonic distortion (THD) below 5% (IEEE 1547-compliant) and current tracking error < 0.06 A. Effective fault feature extraction and classification methods serve as the foundation for achieving the efficient fault diagnosis of planetary gearboxes. Considering the vibration signals of planetary gearboxes that contain both symmetrical and asymmetrical components, this paper proposes a novel feature extraction method integrating an adaptive multi-bandpass filter (AMBPF) and refined composite multi-scale fuzzy entropy (RCMFE). And a dream optimization algorithm (DOA)–least squares support vector machine (LSSVM) is also proposed for fault classification. Firstly, the AMBPF is proposed, which can effectively and adaptively separate the meshing frequencies, harmonic frequencies, and their sideband frequency information of the planetary gearbox, and is combined with RCMFE for fault feature extraction. Secondly, the DOA is employed to optimize the parameters of the LSSVM, aiming to enhance its classification efficiency. Finally, the fault diagnosis of the planetary gearbox is achieved by the AMBPF, RCMFE, and DOA-LSSVM. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves significantly higher diagnostic efficiency and exhibits superior noise immunity in planetary gearbox fault diagnosis. The transition towards a power system characterized by a reduced presence of synchronous generators (SGs) and an increased reliance on inverter-based resources (IBRs), including wind, solar photovoltaics (PV), and battery storage, presents new operational challenges, particularly when these sources exceed 50–60% of the system’s demand. While current grid-following (GFL) IBRs, which are equipped with fast and rigid control systems, continue to dominate the inverter landscape, there has been a notable surge in research focused on grid-forming (GFM) inverters in recent years. This study conducts a comparative analysis of the practicality and control methodologies of GFM inverters relative to traditional GFL inverters from a system planning perspective. A comprehensive framework aimed at assisting system developers and consulting engineers in the grid-integration of wide-scale renewable energy sources (RESs), incorporating strategies for the deployment of inverters, capacitor banks, and harmonic filters, is proposed in this paper. The discussion includes an examination of the reactive power capabilities of the plant’s inverters and the provision of additional reactive power to ensure compliance with grid interconnection standards. Furthermore, the paper outlines a practical approach to assess the necessity for enhanced filtering measures to mitigate potential resonant conditions and achieve harmonic compliance at the installation site. The objective of this work is to offer useful guidelines and insights for the effective addition of RES into contemporary power systems. Full article
