This study examines the development of the digital economy and society in the Republic of Kazakhstan by combining international benchmarking with a context-specific national framework. It highlights the limitations of existing global indices such as DESI, NRI, and EGDI in capturing the structural and institutional dimensions of digital transformation in emerging economies. To address this gap, the study introduces a novel composite metric, the Index of Digital Economy Development (IDED), which integrates five sub-indices: infrastructure, usage, human capital, economic digitization, and transformation effectiveness. The methodology involves comparative index analysis, the construction of the IDED, and statistical validation through a public opinion survey and regression modeling. Key findings indicate that cybersecurity is a critical yet under-represented component of digital development, showing strong empirical correlations with DESI scores in benchmark countries. The results also highlight Kazakhstan’s strengths in digital public services and internet access, contrasted with weaknesses in business digitization and innovation. The proposed IDED offers a more comprehensive and policy-relevant tool for assessing digital progress in transitional economies. This study contributes to the literature by proposing a replicable index structure and providing empirical evidence for the inclusion of cybersecurity in national digital economy assessments. The aim of the study is to assess Kazakhstan’s digital economy development by addressing limitations in global measurement frameworks. Methodologically, it combines comparative index analysis, the construction of a national composite index (IDED), and statistical validation using a regional survey and regression analysis. The findings reveal both strengths and gaps in Kazakhstan’s digital landscape, particularly in cybersecurity and SME digitalization. The IDED introduces an innovative, context-sensitive framework that enhances the measurement of digital transformation in transitional economies. Full article

Road traffic accidents are a leading cause of injury and death among adolescents, making road safety education crucial. This study assesses the performance of and users’ opinions on the Route 2 School (R2S) traffic safety education program, designed for secondary school students (13–17 years) in Belgium. The program incorporates gamified e-learning modules containing, among others, podcasts, interactive 360° visuals, and virtual reality (VR), to enhance traffic knowledge, situation awareness, risk detection, and risk management. This study was conducted across several cities and municipalities within Belgium. More than 600 students from school years 3 to 6 completed the platform and of these more than 200 students filled in a comprehensive questionnaire providing detailed feedback on platform usability, preferences, and behavioral risk assessments. The results revealed shortcomings in traffic knowledge and skills, particularly among older students. Gender-based analysis indicated no significant performance differences overall, though females performed better in risk management and males in risk detection. Furthermore, students from cities outperformed those from municipalities. Feedback on the R2S platform indicated high usability and engagement, with VR-based simulations receiving the most positive reception. In addition, it was highlighted that secondary school students are high-risk groups for distraction and red-light violations as cyclists and pedestrians. This study demonstrates the importance of gamified, technology-enhanced road safety education while underscoring the need for module-specific improvements and regional customization. The findings support the broader application of e-learning methodologies for sustainable, behavior-oriented traffic safety education targeting adolescents. Full article

Background: Veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (V-A ECMO) is increasingly used to support patients with refractory cardiogenic shock or cardiac arrest. While femoral artery cannulation remains the most common arterial access, axillary artery cannulation has emerged as a valuable alternative in selected cases. Objective: This narrative review aims to synthesize current evidence and expert opinion on axillary artery cannulation in V-A ECMO, focusing on its technical feasibility, physiologic implications, and clinical outcomes. Methods: A comprehensive literature search was performed in PubMed and Scopus using relevant keywords related to ECMO, axillary artery, cannulation techniques, and outcomes. Emphasis was placed on prospective and retrospective clinical studies, expert consensus statements, and technical reports published over the past two decades. Results: Axillary cannulation provides antegrade aortic flow, potentially reducing the risk of differential hypoxia and improving upper body perfusion. However, the technique presents unique technical challenges and may carry risks such as hyperperfusion syndrome or arterial complications. Emerging data suggest favorable outcomes in selected patient populations when performed in experienced centers. Conclusions: Axillary cannulation represents a promising arterial access route in V-A ECMO, particularly in cases with contraindications to femoral cannulation or when upper-body perfusion is a concern. Further prospective studies are needed to better define patient selection criteria and long-term outcomes. Full article

In the digital communication ecosystem, micro-influencers have influenced public response during crises, especially in complex geopolitical contexts. This paper introduces the micro-influencer impact model (MIIM), a framework for analyzing the impact of micro-influencers on crisis communication. The MIIM integrates four components (micro-influencer characteristics, message framing and delivery, audience factors, and crisis context) offering a comprehensive approach to understanding micro-influencer dynamics during crises. Cross-conflict analysis spanning Ukraine–Russia, Sudan–Ethiopia, Armenia–Azerbaijan, Myanmar, Syria, and India–Pakistan tensions demonstrates the MIIM’s broad applicability across diverse geopolitical crises, showing how factors like perceived authenticity, niche expertise, narrative personalization, and audience digital literacy consistently shape public opinion and crisis response. The MIIM synthesizes crisis communication theories, social influence models, and digital media research, providing a sophisticated framework for studying the dissemination of information and public engagement during crises. The paper proposes theoretically grounded propositions on the impact of micro-influencers, encompassing perceived authenticity, narrative framing, and influence over time, thereby laying the groundwork for future empirical research. Implications for communication scholars, crisis managers, policymakers, and social media platforms are discussed, emphasizing the MIIM’s relevance to theory and practice in crisis communication. Localised cutaneous leishmaniasis (LCL) is a common neglected tropical disease in Ethiopia, which is mainly treated with intralesional (IL) pentavalent antimonial such as sodium stibogluconate (SSG) and/or cryotherapy. Both treatments are painful, and studies are lacking on the pain associated with these or affected individuals’ experiences of them. A cross-sectional, observational study was conducted at ALERT Comprehensive Specialized Hospital, Addis Ababa/Ethiopia. The socio-demographic and clinical data of individuals affected by LCL receiving IL SSG and/or cryotherapy was gathered, and their treatment was observed. Participants quantified their treatment-associated pain using the Wong–Baker Pain Scale. Health-related quality of life was measured using the (Children’s) Dermatology Life Quality Index. Adverse effects, participant experiences with local therapies, and dermatologists’ experiences and opinions of local LCL treatment were assessed using structured questionnaires. Of the thirty-six individuals with LCL included (64% male, 14% children), 52% reported a treatment-associated pain score ≥ 8. Cryotherapy administered with a cotton bud was associated with lower pain scores ≤ 6 (odds ratio: 0.15, 95% confidence interval: 0.03–0.89) compared to a cryotherapy spray device. There was wide variation in treatment administration. Local LCL treatment is painful, and most individuals experience significant pain. This study highlights the need for less painful but effective treatments, structured training, and clear standard operating procedures. Full article

User Comment-Guided Cross-Modal Attention for Interpretable Multimodal Fake News Detection

In order to address the pressing challenge posed by the proliferation of fake news in the digital age, we emphasize its profound and harmful impact on societal structures, including the misguidance of public opinion, the erosion of social trust, and the exacerbation of social polarization. Current fake news detection methods are largely limited to superficial text analysis or basic text–image integration, which face significant limitations in accurately identifying deceptive information. To bridge this gap, we propose the UC-CMAF framework, which comprehensively integrates news text, images, and user comments through an adaptive co-attention fusion mechanism. The UC-CMAF workflow consists of four key subprocesses: multimodal feature extraction, cross-modal adaptive collaborative attention fusion of news text and images, cross-modal attention fusion of user comments with news text and images, and finally, input of fusion features into a fake news detector. Specifically, we introduce multi-head cross-modal attention heatmaps and comment importance visualizations to provide interpretability support for the model’s predictions, revealing key semantic areas and user perspectives that influence judgments. Through the cross-modal adaptive collaborative attention mechanism, UC-CMAF achieves deep semantic alignment between news text and images and uses social signals from user comments to build an enhanced credibility evaluation path, offering a new paradigm for interpretable fake information detection. Experimental results demonstrate that UC-CMAF consistently outperforms 15 baseline models across two benchmark datasets, achieving F1 Scores of 0.894 and 0.909. These results validate the effectiveness of its adaptive cross-modal attention mechanism and the incorporation of user comments in enhancing both detection accuracy and interpretability. Full article

Sentiment analysis is a sub-field within Natural Language Processing (NLP), concentrating on the extraction and interpretation of user sentiments or opinions from textual data. Despite significant advancements in the analysis of online content, a continuing challenge persists in the handling of sentiment datasets that are high-dimensional and frequently include substantial amounts of irrelevant or redundant features. Existing methods to address this issue typically rely on dimensionality reduction techniques; however, their effectiveness in removing irrelevant features and managing noisy or redundant data has been inconsistent. This research seeks to overcome these challenges by introducing an innovative methodology that integrates ensemble feature selection techniques based on information gain with feature hashing. Our proposed approach aims to enhance the conventional feature selection process by synergistically combining these two strategies to more effectively tackle the issues of irrelevant features, noisy classes, and redundant data. The novel integration of information gain with feature hashing facilitates a more precise and strategic feature selection process, resulting in improved efficiency and effectiveness in sentiment analysis tasks. Through comprehensive experimentation and evaluation, we demonstrate that our proposed method significantly outperforms baseline approaches and existing techniques across a wide range of scenarios. The results indicate that our method offers substantial advancements in managing high-dimensional sentiment data, thereby contributing to more accurate and reliable sentiment analysis outcomes. Higher-education institutions are increasingly embracing digital transformation to meet the evolving expectations of students, academics, and administrators. The smart campus paradigm offers a strategic framework for this shift, yet most existing assessment models originate from high-income contexts and remain largely untested in the Global South, where infrastructural and technological conditions differ substantially. This study addresses this gap by evaluating the contextual relevance of a comprehensive smart campus assessment framework at the Papua New Guinea University of Technology (PNGUoT). A questionnaire survey of 278 participants—students and staff—was conducted using a 5-point Likert scale to assess the perceived importance of performance indicators across four key dimensions: Smart Economy, Smart Society, Smart Environment, and Smart Governance. A hybrid methodology combining the Best–Worst Method (BWM) and Public Opinion (PO) data was used to prioritise framework components. The research hypothesises that contextual factors predominantly influence the framework’s relevance in developing countries and asks: To what extent is the smart campus assessment framework relevant and adaptable in the Global South? The study aims to measure the framework’s relevance and identify contextual influences shaping its application. The findings confirm its overall applicability while revealing significant variations in stakeholder priorities, emphasising the need for context-sensitive and adaptable assessment tools. This research contributes to the refinement of smart campus frameworks and supports more inclusive and responsive digital transformation strategies in developing country higher education institutions. The social and civic participation of older adults has proven to be an asset that positively influences the dynamics of social inclusion that affect them, and expert opinion from international organisations calls for its inclusion in the development of public policies in response to the increasing longevity worldwide. However, the characteristics of this participation have not been sufficiently analysed. The main objective of this study was to test the explanatory capacity of an operational proposal relating to the participation of older people based on a multidimensional participation structure. Four dimensions were established: two relating to social participation (associations and volunteering and public sociability) and two linked to citizen participation (political and electoral participation, as well as active citizenship and civic engagement). Based on the proposal, a technical expert panel (TEP) was asked to identify the main participation challenges faced by older people across the four dimensions identified. Consensus was sought using prioritisation matrices. The results showed, among other issues, the key role of the dimensions of citizen participation in identifying participation challenges that have an impact on social inclusion. The political and electoral participation dimension had a specific weight regarding the challenges linked to current problems and characteristics. On the other hand, the active citizenship and civic engagement dimension was oriented towards the challenges linked to desirable conditions and recommended initiatives in the future to improve the impact of older people’s participation. The expert panel’s statements coincide with the recommendations of international organisations on the need to involve older persons in policymaking from a perspective of comprehensive and person-centred care. This provides a concrete response to people’s demands and fosters bottom-up planning policies that contribute to social cohesion. Full article

This study focuses on the importance of sustainability in the tourism and accommodation sector in terms of energy use. Energy, which is one of the biggest cost components in accommodation facilities, not only brings a financial burden but also leads to environmental degradation through significant carbon emissions. On the other hand, as environmental awareness increases globally, the number of environmentally sensitive travellers increases and accommodations that stand out with sustainable practices and use renewable energy sources are preferred. There is a lack of comprehensive research on this subject in Northern Cyprus. This study is a preliminary study for a more comprehensive study. Due to the key role of managers in the transition to sustainable energy use in accommodation facilities, their opinions are very important in determining the situation. Therefore, the study aims to learn the evaluations of hotel managers in order to determine the status of sustainable energy practices in accommodation facilities. Our findings indicate that although hotel managers in Northern Cyprus are aware of holistic energy management, legal and infrastructural barriers significantly hinder the practical implementation of environmentally friendly energy practices. Background/Objectives: Clinical guidelines for children’s footwear vary widely across governmental and clinical sources, reflecting inconsistencies in best practices for paediatric foot health. These discrepancies arise from differing research interpretations, regional priorities, and clinical expertise. This scoping review evaluates existing guidelines and examines the evidence supporting them. The objective of this scoping review was to identify and map existing footwear guidelines for healthy children and adolescents across governmental, professional, and clinical sources, and to evaluate the type and strength of evidence underpinning these recommendations. Methods: A systematic search of PubMed, Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, and governmental databases was conducted. Studies on footwear recommendations for healthy children aged 18 months to 18 years were included. Articles published between 1970 and 2024 were considered, as 1970 marked the first mass marketing of running shoes/trainers. Results: Footwear guidelines lack standardisation, with variations in definitions, recommendations, and supporting evidence. Key inconsistencies exist in parameters such as fit, flexibility, and toe allowance, with most recommendations based on expert opinion rather than empirical data. Discrepancies in commercial footwear sizing further complicate proper fit assessment. Conclusions: This is the first comprehensive review of children’s footwear guidelines, integrating governmental, professional body, and clinical recommendations. While there is consensus on the importance of properly fitting shoes, the literature reveals inconsistencies and reliance on expert opinion rather than high-quality research. This review highlights the need for standardised, evidence-based criteria to guide footwear recommendations and serves as a foundation for future research aimed at bridging the gap between research and practice. With the rapid development of the Internet, the speed and scope of sudden public events disseminating in cyberspace have grown significantly. Current methods of quantifying public opinion heat often neglect emotion-driven factors and user interaction behaviors, making it difficult to accurately capture fluctuations during dissemination. To address these issues, first, this study addressed the complexity of interaction behaviors by introducing an approach that employs the information gain ratio as a weighting indicator to measure the “interaction heat” contributed by different interaction attributes during event evolution. Second, this study built on SnowNLP and expanded textual features to conduct in-depth sentiment mining of large-scale opinion texts, defining the variance of netizens’ emotional tendencies as an indicator of emotional fluctuations, thereby capturing “emotional heat”. We then integrated interactive behavior and emotional conflict assessment to achieve comprehensive heat index to quantification and dynamic evolution analysis of online public opinion heat. Subsequently, we used Hodrick–Prescott filter to separate long-term trends and short-term fluctuations, extract six key quantitative features (number of peaks, time of first peak, maximum amplitude, decay time, peak emotional conflict, and overall duration), and applied K-means clustering algorithm (K-means) to classify events into three propagation patterns, which are extreme burst, normal burst, and long-tail. Finally, this study conducted ablation experiments on critical external intervention nodes to quantify the distinct contribution of each intervention to the propagation trend by observing changes in the model’s goodness-of-fit (R2) after removing different interventions. Through an empirical analysis of six representative public opinion events from 2024, this study verified the effectiveness of the proposed framework and uncovered critical characteristics of opinion dissemination, including explosiveness versus persistence, multi-round dissemination with recurring emotional fluctuations, and the interplay of multiple driving factors. Ore Genesis of the Jurassic Granite-Hosted Naizhigou Gold Deposit in the Jiapigou District of Northeast China: Constraints from Fluid Inclusions and H–O–S Isotopes

The Jiapigou mining district (>180 t Au) is an important gold district in China. For a long time, the ore genesis of the gold deposits in the Jiapigou district has been a subject of controversy and differing opinions, which has severely hindered metallogenic theories and mineral exploration. Here we present a comprehensive investigation including geology, fluid inclusions (FIs), and H–O–S isotopic data for the Naizhigou deposit in the Jiapigou district to elucidate the sources of orefluids and metals, as well as the metallogenic mechanism. The results show the following: (1) The Naizhigou deposit is characterized by quartz vein-type ores and is hosted in the Middle Jurassic granitic pluton. Native gold and sulfides were mainly deposited in the second stage (quartz–polymetallic sulfides) compared with the first (quartz–pyrite–molybdenite) and third (quartz–calcite) stages. (2) The FI studies indicated that the orefluids evolved from the early–main-stage CO2–H2O–NaCl system to the late-stage H2O–NaCl system and have homogenization temperatures of 289–363, 210–282, and 124–276 °C and salinities of 4.1–20.9, 5.8–16.4, and 6.1–12.7 wt% NaCl equivalent, respectively. Fluid boiling and fluid mixing collectively controlled the precipitation of gold and ore-forming elements. (3) The δD values of the FIs hosted in quartz from the three stags range from −81 to −75 ‰, from −99 to −86 ‰, and from −110 to −101 ‰, while δ18Owater values of these FIs range from 5.3 to 5.9 ‰, from 1.1 to 5.2 ‰, and from −2.1 to −0.7 ‰, respectively. Pyrite samples from the three stages in the Naizhigou deposit have δ34S values of 2.1 to 2.5 ‰, 3.1 to 4.3 ‰, and 3.8 to 3.9 ‰, respectively. The stable isotopes indicate that the orefluids and metals mainly originated from magma. A comparative study of regional observations reveals that the Naizhigou deposit is a magmatic-related mesothermal gold deposit, rather than a metamorphism-related orogenic gold deposit. The estimated ore-forming depths are 4.0–20.7 km, with exhumation depths of 4.1–5.5 km, which indicated that the deposit has been well preserved. Regionally, the new exploration strategies should place greater emphasis on work concerning ore-related plutons, ore-controlling faults, and hydrothermal alteration. Full article

Platelet transfusions are a cornerstone of hemorrhage management in patients with thrombocytopenia or platelet dysfunction, yet their indications and dosing are largely based on expert opinion and low-quality evidence. This review offers a timely and comprehensive analysis of platelet transfusion practices in the United States (U.S.), uniquely integrating clinical evidence, such as the pivotal PLADO trial, with emerging technological advancements. Using a holistic approach, this manuscript addresses not only conventional practices (such as dosing standards and storage methods), but also cutting-edge alternatives like cold-stored and freeze-dried platelets, pathogen reduction technologies, and synthetic platelet substitutes. By juxtaposing U.S. practices with international standards, it highlights inefficiencies in dosing and supply management, proposing actionable solutions like lower-dose transfusions and diversified platelet inventories. Furthermore, the manuscript’s exploration of whole blood-derived platelets and the ethical debate surrounding paid donors adds a forward-looking perspective. By examining these innovations alongside strategies to optimize supply, this work aims to provide a comprehensive overview of how transfusion medicine is adapting to meet clinical and logistical demands. From a Coal Mining Area to a Wetland Park: How Is the Social Landscape Performance in Pan’an Lake National Wetland Park?

The increasing development of coal mining subsidence wetland parks has led to a growing focus on assessing their ecological, economic, and social benefits following ecological restoration. This study establishes an assessment framework for the social landscape performance of coal mining subsidence wetland parks based on the landscape performance series (LPS), cultural ecosystem services (CES), and the unique characteristics of coal mining subsidence wetland parks. The framework integrates expert opinions and field research to select indicators, resulting in a comprehensive evaluation system comprising 28 indicators across five dimensions. Taking the Pan’an Lake National Wetland Park (PLNWP) in Xuzhou, China, as an example, we conducted empirical research by collecting data through questionnaires and on-site interviews. Using the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method, the social landscape performance score of PLNWP was 3.511, which is rated as “good.” The importance–performance analysis (IPA) was applied to identify differences in the perceptions of visitors and local residents regarding the social landscape performance of the PLNWP. Local residents highlighted the need to enhance the amenity of waterside spaces, while visitors focused on the accessibility. Finally, based on the performance score and the perceptions from different stakeholders, optimization strategies were proposed in four aspects: enhancing waterside space amenity, optimizing accessibility, improving educational facilities, and addressing diverse user needs. This study could provide a feasible assessment framework and optimization guidance for other coal mining subsidence wetland parks. Full article
