A high-quality set of typical scenarios is significant for power grid planning. Existing construction methods for typical scenarios do not account for the spatiotemporal correlations among renewable energy plant outputs, failing to adequately reflect the distribution characteristics of original scenarios. To address the issues mentioned above, this paper proposes a construction method for typical scenarios considering spatiotemporal correlations, providing high-quality typical scenarios for power grid planning. Firstly, a symmetric spatial correlation matrix and a temporal autocorrelation matrix are defined, achieving quantitative representation of spatiotemporal correlations. Then, distributional differences between typical and original scenarios are quantified from multiple dimensions, and a scenario reduction model considering spatiotemporal correlations is established. Finally, the genetic algorithm is improved by incorporating adaptive parameter adjustment and an elitism strategy, which can efficiently obtain high-quality typical scenarios. A case study involving five wind farms and fourteen photovoltaic plants in Belgium is presented. The rate of error between spatial correlation matrices of original and typical scenario sets is lower than 2.6%, and the rate of error between temporal autocorrelations is lower than 2.8%. Urban heat islands (UHIs) are a growing sustainability challenge impacting public health, energy use, and climate resilience, especially in hot, arid cities like San Antonio, Texas, where land surface temperatures reach up to 47.63 °C. This study advances a data-driven, interdisciplinary approach to UHI mitigation by integrating Machine Learning (ML) with physical and socio-demographic data for sustainable urban planning. Using high-resolution spatial data across five functional zones (residential, commercial, industrial, official, and downtown), we apply three ML models, Random Forest (RF), Support Vector Machine (SVM), and Gradient Boosting Machine (GBM), to predict land surface temperature (LST). The models incorporate both environmental variables, such as imperviousness, Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), building area, and solar influx, and social determinants, such as population density, income, education, and age distribution. SVM achieved the highest R2 (0.870), while RF yielded the lowest RMSE (0.488 °C), confirming robust predictive performance. Key predictors of elevated LST included imperviousness, building area, solar influx, and NDVI. Our results underscore the need for zone-specific strategies like more greenery, less impervious cover, and improved building design. These findings offer actionable insights for urban planners and policymakers seeking to develop equitable and sustainable UHI mitigation strategies aligned with climate adaptation and environmental justice goals. Assessing Urban Park Accessibility via Population Projections: Planning for Green Equity in Shanghai

Rapid urbanization and demographic shifts present significant challenges to spatial justice in green space provision. Traditional static assessments have become increasingly inadequate for guiding park planning, which now requires a dynamic, future-oriented analytical approach. To address this gap, this study incorporates population dynamics into urban park planning by developing a dynamic evaluation framework for park accessibility. Building on the Gaussian-based two-step floating catchment area (Ga2SFCA) method, we propose the human-population-projection-Ga2SFCA (HPP-Ga2SFCA) model, which integrates population forecasts to assess park service efficiency under future demographic pressures. Using neighborhood-committee-level census data from 2000 to 2020 and detailed park spatial data, we identified five types of population change and forecast demographic distributions for both short- and long-term scenarios. Our findings indicate population decline in the urban core and outer suburbs, with growth concentrated in the transitional inner-suburban zones. Long-term projections suggest that 66% of communities will experience population growth, whereas short-term forecasts indicate a decline in 52%. Static models overestimate park accessibility by approximately 40%. In contrast, our dynamic model reveals that accessibility is overestimated in 71% and underestimated in 7% of the city, highlighting a potential mismatch between future population demand and current park supply. This study offers a forward-looking planning framework that enhances the responsiveness of park systems to demographic change and supports the development of more equitable, adaptive green space strategies. The strategic allocation of advertising billboards has become a critical aspect of urban planning and resource management. While previous studies have explored site selection based on road network and population data, they have often overlooked the diminishing marginal returns of overlapping coverage and neglected to efficiently process large-scale urban datasets. To address these challenges, this study proposes two complementary optimization methods: an enhanced greedy algorithm based on geometric modeling and spatial acceleration techniques, and a reinforcement learning approach using Proximal Policy Optimization (PPO). The enhanced greedy algorithm incorporates population-weighted road coverage modeling, employs a geometric series to capture diminishing returns from overlapping coverage, and integrates spatial indexing and parallel computing to significantly improve scalability and solution quality in large urban networks. Meanwhile, the PPO-based method models billboard site selection as a sequential decision-making process in a dynamic environment, where agents adaptively learn optimal deployment strategies through reward signals, balancing coverage gains and redundancy penalties and effectively handling complex multi-step optimization tasks. Experiments conducted on Wuhan’s road network demonstrate that both methods effectively optimize population-weighted billboard coverage under budget constraints while enhancing spatial distribution balance. Quantitatively, the enhanced greedy algorithm improves coverage effectiveness by 18.6% compared to the baseline, while the PPO-based method further improves it by 4.3% with enhanced spatial equity. The proposed framework provides a robust and scalable decision-support tool for urban advertising infrastructure planning and resource allocation. Full article

This study proposes an intelligent patrol planning framework that leverages reinforcement learning, spatiotemporal crime forecasting, and simulated sensor telemetry to optimize autonomous vehicle (AV) navigation in urban environments. Crime incidents from Washington DC (2024–2025) and Seattle (2008–2024) are modeled as a dynamic spatiotemporal graph, capturing the evolving intensity and distribution of criminal activity across neighborhoods and time windows. The agent’s state space incorporates synthetic AV sensor inputs—including fuel level, visual anomaly detection, and threat signals—to reflect real-world operational constraints. We evaluate and compare three learning strategies: Deep Q-Network (DQN), Double Deep Q-Network (DDQN), and Proximal Policy Optimization (PPO). Experimental results show that DDQN outperforms DQN in convergence speed and reward accumulation, while PPO demonstrates greater adaptability in sensor-rich, high-noise conditions. Real-map simulations and hourly risk heatmaps validate the effectiveness of our approach, highlighting its potential to inform scalable, data-driven patrol strategies in next-generation smart cities. Traditional algorithms such as Dijkstra and APF rely on complete environmental information for path planning, which results in numerous constraints during modeling. This not only increases the complexity of the algorithms but also reduces the efficiency and reliability of the planning. Swarm intelligence algorithms possess strong data processing and search capabilities, enabling them to efficiently solve path planning problems in different environments and generate approximately optimal paths. However, swarm intelligence algorithms suffer from issues like premature convergence and a tendency to fall into local optima during the search process. Thus, an improved Artificial Bee Colony-Beetle Antennae Search (IABCBAS) algorithm is proposed. Firstly, Tent chaos and non-uniform variation are introduced into the bee algorithm to enhance population diversity and spatial searchability. Secondly, the stochastic reverse learning mechanism and greedy strategy are incorporated into the beetle antennae search algorithm to improve direction-finding ability and the capacity to escape local optima, respectively. Finally, the weights of the two algorithms are adaptively adjusted to balance global search and local refinement. Results of experiments using nine benchmark functions and four comparative algorithms show that the improved algorithm exhibits superior path point search performance and high stability in both high- and low-dimensional environments, as well as in unimodal and multimodal environments. Ablation experiment results indicate that the optimization strategies introduced in the algorithm effectively improve convergence accuracy and speed during path planning. Results of the path planning experiments show that compared with the comparison algorithms, the average path planning distance of the improved algorithm is reduced by 23.83% in the 2D multi-obstacle environment, and the average planning time is shortened by 27.97% in the 3D surface environment. The improvement in path planning efficiency makes this algorithm of certain value in engineering applications. Full article

Purpose: To present the findings of our preliminary experience using daily image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT) supported by implanted fiducial markers (FMs) in the radiotherapy of the vaginal cuff, in a cohort of post-surgery endometrial cancer patients. Methods: Patients with vaginal cuff cancer requiring adjuvant radiation with external beams were enrolled. Five patients underwent radiation therapy targeting the pelvic disease and positive lymph nodes, with doses of 50.4 Gy in twenty-eight fractions and a subsequent stereotactic boost on the vaginal vault at a dose of 5 Gy in a single fraction. One patient was administered 30 Gy in five fractions to the vaginal vault. These patients underwent external beam RT following the implantation of three 0.40 × 10 mm gold fiducial markers (FMs). Our IGRT strategy involved real-time 2D kV image-based monitoring of the fiducial markers during the treatment delivery as a surrogate of the vaginal cuff. To explore the potential role of FMs throughout the treatment process, we analyzed cine movies of the 2D kV-triggered images during delivery, as well as the image registration between pre- and post-treatment CBCT scans and the planning CT (pCT). Each CBCT used to trigger fraction delivery was segmented to define the rectum, bladder, and vaginal cuff. We calculated a standard metric to assess the similarity among the images (Dice index). Results: All the patients completed radiotherapy and experienced good tolerance without any reported acute or long-term toxicity. We did not observe any loss of FMs during or before treatment. A total of twenty CBCTs were analyzed across ten fractions. The observed trend showed a relatively emptier bladder compared to the simulation phase, with the bladder filling during the delivery. This resulted in a final median Dice similarity coefficient (DSC) of 0.90, indicating strong performance. The rectum reproducibility revealed greater variability, negatively affecting the quality of the delivery. Only in two patients, FMs showed intrafractional shift > 5 mm, probably associated with considerable rectal volume changes. Target coverage was preserved due to a safe CTV-to-PTV margin (10 mm). Conclusions: In our preliminary study, CBCT in combination with the use of fiducial markers to guide the delivery proved to be a feasible method for IGRT both before and during the treatment of post-operative gynecological cancer. In particular, this approach seems to be promising in selected patients to facilitate the use of SBRT instead of BRT (brachytherapy), thanks to margin reduction and adaptive strategies to optimize dose delivery while minimizing toxicity. A larger sample of patients is needed to confirm our results. Full article

As global climate change accelerates, the urban heat island (UHI) phenomenon has become increasingly pronounced, posing significant challenges to urban energy balance, atmospheric processes, and public health. This study used the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model to dynamically downscale two CMIP6 scenarios—moderate forcing (SSP245) and high forcing (SSP585)—focusing on Zhengzhou, a rapidly urbanizing city in central China. High-resolution simulations captured fine-scale intra-urban temperature patterns and analyze the spatial and seasonal variations in UHI intensity in 2030 and 2060. The results demonstrated significant seasonal variations in UHI effects in Zhengzhou for both 2030 and 2060 under SSP245 and SSP585 scenarios, with the most pronounced warming in summer. Notably, under the SSP245 scenario, elevated autumn temperatures in suburban areas reduced the urban–rural temperature gradient, while intensified rural cooling during winter enhanced the UHI effect. These findings underscore the importance of integrating high-resolution climate modeling into urban planning and developing targeted adaptation strategies based on future UHI patterns to address climate challenges. Background: High-intensity gait training (HIT) is an evidence-based intervention recommended for stroke rehabilitation; however, its implementation in routine practice is inconsistent. This study examined the real-world implementation of HIT in an inpatient rehabilitation setting in Norway, focusing on fidelity, barriers, and knowledge translation (KT) strategies. Methods: Using the Knowledge-to-Action (KTA) framework, HIT was implemented in three phases: pre-implementation, implementation, and competency. Fidelity metrics and coverage were assessed in 99 participants post-stroke. Barriers and facilitators were documented and categorized using the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research. Results: HIT was delivered with improved fidelity during the implementation and competency phases, reflected by increased stepping and heart rate metrics. A coverage rate of 52% was achieved. Barriers evolved over time, beginning with logistical and knowledge challenges and shifting toward decision-making complexity. The KT interventions, developed collaboratively by clinicians and external facilitators, supported implementation. Conclusions: Structured pre-implementation planning, clinician engagement, and external facilitation enabled high-fidelity HIT implementation in a real-world setting. Pragmatic, context-sensitive strategies were critical to overcoming evolving barriers. Future research should examine scalable, adaptive KT strategies that balance theoretical guidance with clinical feasibility to sustain evidence-based practice in rehabilitation. Full article

This paper presents a multi-strategy enhanced bald eagle search algorithm (EAB-BES) for 3D UAV path planning in urban environments. EAB-BES addresses key limitations of the traditional bald eagle search (BES) algorithm, including slow convergence, susceptibility to local optima, and poor adaptability in complex urban scenarios. The algorithm enhances solution space exploration through elite opposition-based learning, balances global search and local exploitation via an adaptive weight mechanism, and refines local search directions using block-based elite-guided differential mutation. These innovations significantly improve BES’s convergence speed, path accuracy, and adaptability to urban constraints. To validate its effectiveness, six high-density urban environments with varied obstacles were used for comparative experiments against nine advanced algorithms. The results demonstrate that EAB-BES achieves the fastest convergence speed and lowest stable fitness values and generates the shortest, smoothest collision-free 3D paths. Statistical tests and box plot analysis further confirm its superior performance in multiple performance metrics. EAB-BES has greater competitiveness compared with the comparative algorithms and can provide an efficient, reliable and robust solution for UAV autonomous navigation in complex urban environments. Can AI and Urban Design Optimization Mitigate Cardiovascular Risks Amid Rapid Urbanization? Unveiling the Impact of Environmental Stressors on Health Resilience

In rapidly urbanizing environments, environmental stressors—such as air pollution, noise, heat, and green space depletion—substantially exacerbate public health burdens, contributing to the global rise of non-communicable diseases, particularly hypertension, cardiovascular disorders, and mental health conditions. Despite expanding research on green spaces and health (+76.9%, 2019–2025) and optimization and algorithmic approaches (+63.7%), the compounded and synergistic impacts of these stressors remain inadequately explored or addressed within current urban planning frameworks. This study presents a Mixed Methods Systematic Review (MMSR) to investigate the potential of AI-driven urban design optimizations in mitigating these multi-scalar environmental health risks. Specifically, it explores the complex interactions between urbanization, traffic-related pollutants, green infrastructure, and architectural intelligence, identifying critical gaps in the integration of computational optimization with nature-based solutions (NBS). To empirically substantiate these theoretical insights, this study draws on longitudinal 24 h dynamic blood pressure (BP) monitoring (3–9 months), revealing that chronic exposure to environmental noise (mean 79.84 dB) increases cardiovascular risk by approximately 1.8-fold. BP data (average 132/76 mmHg), along with observed hypertensive spikes (systolic > 172 mmHg, diastolic ≤ 101 mmHg), underscore the inadequacy of current urban design strategies in mitigating health risks. Based on these findings, this paper advocates for the integration of AI-driven approaches to optimize urban environments, offering actionable recommendations for developing adaptive, human-centric, and health-responsive urban planning frameworks that enhance resilience and public health in the face of accelerating urbanization. Climate warming poses significant challenges for the sustainable management of natural water resources, making efficient planning and usage essential. This study evaluates the water requirements, irrigation demand, and rainfall deficits for two key vegetable crops, carrot and white cabbage, under projected climate scenarios RCP 4.5 and RCP 8.5 for the period 2031–2100. The analysis was conducted for Kraków and Rzeszów Counties in southern Poland using projected monthly temperature and precipitation data from the Klimada 2.0 portal. Potential evapotranspiration (ETp) during the growing season (May–October) was estimated using Treder’s empirical model and the crop coefficient method adapted for Polish conditions. The reference period for comparison was 1951–2020. The results reveal a significant upward trend in water demand for both crops, with the highest increases under the RCP 8.5 scenario–seasonal ETp values reaching up to 517 mm for cabbage and 497 mm for carrot. Rainfall deficits are projected to intensify, especially during July and August, with greater shortages in Rzeszów County compared to Kraków County. Irrigation demand varies depending on soil type and drought severity, becoming critical in medium and very dry years. These findings underscore the necessity of adapting irrigation strategies and water resource management to ensure sustainable vegetable production under changing climate conditions. The data provide valuable guidance for farmers, advisors, and policymakers in planning effective irrigation infrastructure and optimizing water-use efficiency in southern Poland. Full article

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) face significant challenges in global path planning within complex terrains, as traditional algorithms (e.g., A*, PSO, APF) struggle to balance computational efficiency, path optimality, and safety. This study proposes a Voronoi–A* fusion algorithm, combining Voronoi-vertex-based rapid trajectory generation with A* supplementary expansion for enhanced performance. First, an adaptive DEM layering strategy divides the terrain into horizontal planes based on obstacle density, reducing computational complexity while preserving 3D flexibility. The Voronoi vertices within each layer serve as a sparse waypoint network, with greedy heuristic prioritizing vertices that ensure safety margins, directional coherence, and goal proximity. For unresolved segments, A* performs localized searches to ensure complete connectivity. Finally, a line-segment interpolation search further optimizes the path to minimize both length and turning maneuvers. Simulations in mountainous environments demonstrate superior performance over traditional methods in terms of path planning success rates, path optimality, and computation. Our framework excels in real-time scenarios, such as disaster rescue and logistics, although it assumes static environments and trades slight path elongation for robustness. Future research should integrate dynamic obstacle avoidance and weather impact analysis to enhance adaptability in real-world conditions. Full article

Floods are natural hazards that have the greatest socioeconomic impact worldwide, given that 23% of the global population live in urban areas at risk of flooding. In this field of research, the analysis of flood risk has traditionally been studied based mainly on approaches specific to civil engineering such as hydraulics and hydrology. However, these patterns of approaching the problem in research seem to be changing in recent years. During the last few years, a growing trend has been observed towards the use of methodology-based approaches oriented towards urban planning and land use management. In this context, this study analyzes the evolution of these research patterns in the field by developing a bibliometric meta-analysis of 2694 scientific publications on this topic published in recent decades. Evaluating keyword co-occurrence using VOSviewer software version 1.6.20, we analyzed how phenomena such as climate change have modified the way of addressing the study of this problem, giving growing weight to the use of integrated approaches improving territorial planning or implementing adaptive strategies, as opposed to the more traditional vision of previous decades, which only focused on the construction of hydraulic infrastructures for flood control. Background/Objectives: The integration of AI chatbots in nursing education, particularly in simulation-based learning, is advancing rapidly. However, there is a lack of structured evaluation models, especially to assess AI-generated simulations. This article introduces the AI-Integrated Method for Simulation (AIMS) evaluation framework, a dual-phase evaluation framework adapted from the FAITA model, designed to evaluate both prompt design and chatbot performance in the context of nursing education. Methods: This simulation-based study explored the application of an AI chatbot in an emergency planning course. The AIMS framework was developed and applied, consisting of six prompt-level domains (Phase 1) and eight performance criteria (Phase 2). These domains were selected based on current best practices in instructional design, simulation fidelity, and emerging AI evaluation literature. To assess the chatbots educational utility, the study employed a scoring rubric for each phase and incorporated a structured feedback loop to refine both prompt design and chatbox interaction. To demonstrate the framework’s practical application, the researchers configured an AI tool referred to in this study as “Eval-Bot v1”, built using OpenAI’s GPT-4.0, to apply Phase 1 scoring criteria to a real simulation prompt. Insights from this analysis were then used to anticipate Phase 2 performance and identify areas for improvement. Participants (three individuals)—all experienced healthcare educators and advanced practice nurses with expertise in clinical decision-making and simulation-based teaching—reviewed the prompt and Eval-Bot’s score to triangulate findings. Results: Simulated evaluations revealed clear strengths in the prompt alignment with course objectives and its capacity to foster interactive learning. Participants noted that the AI chatbot supported engagement and maintained appropriate pacing, particularly in scenarios involving emergency planning decision-making. However, challenges emerged in areas related to personalization and inclusivity. While the chatbot responded consistently to general queries, it struggled to adapt tone, complexity and content to reflect diverse learner needs or cultural nuances. To support replication and refinement, a sample scoring rubric and simulation prompt template are provided. When evaluated using the Eval-Bot tool, moderate concerns were flagged regarding safety prompts and inclusive language, particularly in how the chatbot navigated sensitive decision points. These gaps were linked to predicted performance issues in Phase 2 domains such as dialog control, equity, and user reassurance. Based on these findings, revised prompt strategies were developed to improve contextual sensitivity, promote inclusivity, and strengthen ethical guidance within chatbot-led simulations. Conclusions: The AIMS evaluation framework provides a practical and replicable approach for evaluating the use of AI chatbots in simulation-based education. By offering structured criteria for both prompt design and chatbot performance, the model supports instructional designers, simulation specialists, and developers in identifying areas of strength and improvement. The findings underscore the importance of intentional design, safety monitoring, and inclusive language when integrating AI into nursing and health education. As AI tools become more embedded in learning environments, this framework offers a thoughtful starting point for ensuring they are applied ethically, effectively, and with learner diversity in mind.
