The rapid diffusion of electric vehicles (EVs) is reshaping mobility markets and creating new opportunities for embedded financial services. This study examines consumer acceptance of embedded EV insurance, which refers to coverage bundled directly at the point of vehicle sale in Taiwan, China. Using survey data from 400 licensed drivers, we analyze how demographic factors and five psychological drivers—perceived savings, convenience, trust, expected satisfaction, and fairness—shape the likelihood of choosing embedded insurance over traditional stand-alone policies. Welch’s t-tests show that younger drivers perceive greater savings and convenience, while older drivers express stronger fairness concerns. Logistic regression results indicate that convenience (OR = 2.05) and perceived savings (OR = 1.76) substantially increase adoption likelihood, whereas fairness concerns reduce it (OR = 0.71). Theoretically, this study advances consumer behavior research by demonstrating how functional value perceptions (convenience and savings) and fairness evaluations jointly influence decisions in digitally mediated insurance contexts. It also contributes to embedded finance theory by revealing how insurance embedded within EV purchasing ecosystems reshapes consumer decision processes and alters traditional insurer–consumer relationships. These findings offer strategic implications for automakers, insurers, and policymakers designing consumer-centric embedded financial products in emerging mobility markets. Full article

Background: Cannabis excise tax structures vary widely across the states in the United States. Standardizing taxes may improve cross-state comparisons and strengthen evaluations of how taxes and prices influence public health outcomes. This study developed category-specific standardized tax metrics for flower, vaping, and edible products by incorporating price and tax structure variations using retail scanner data. Methods: We analyzed cannabis retail scanner data from dispensary point-of-sale systems for flower, vaping, and edible products in 12 states with legal recreational markets from Q1 2020 to Q4 2024. Using retail prices and excise tax policies, we converted taxes in different forms across the supply chain into standardized measures and estimated tax incidence (ratio of standardized taxes to retail prices) for each category. We also evaluated the association between standardized taxes and retail prices. Results: Mean standardized excise taxes were USD 32.58/ounce for flower, USD 180.21/ounce for vaping, and USD 0.024/milligram THC for edible products. Corresponding tax incidences were 13.03%, 13.59%, and 13.09%. Standardized taxes and tax incidences varied considerably across states. Category-specific standardized taxes strongly predicted retail prices, supporting their use as an instrumental variable candidate. Conclusions: Category-specific standardized measures of cannabis excise taxes derived from retail scanner data may support cross-state comparisons and pricing policy evaluation. Full article

Background: Childhood obesity and being overweight represent a global public health challenge; the consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) and ultra-processed foods (UPFs) contributes to this problem. In Mexico, public health policies have been implemented to improve school food environments. Objective: To assess the school food environment before the implementation of the guidelines for the preparation, distribution, and sale of food and beverages (SFGs) in three primary schools in Mexico City. Methods: A cross-sectional mixed method study was conducted, including structured non-participatory observation of selling points outside and inside of schools, and availability of drinking fountains and lunchboxes contents. A food waste audit assessment was performed to identify the most frequently consumed products, main ingredients, front-of-package labels, and colorants. Additionally, 23 semi-structured interviews were conducted with school authorities, teachers, and food vendors. Results: SSBs and UPFs selling points were observed outside and inside in public schools, while in private schools, only inside, with use of delivery food apps. Public schools lacked functional drinking fountains. A total of 345 food waste items were collected across the schools, of which 46.3% were SSBs and 53.7% were UPFs. The main ingredient was sugar (15.6%), the principal front-of-package was excess sugar (37.5%), and the most frequently used colorants were red 40 (25.1%). Interview participants reported awareness of the SFGs; however, they identified barriers such as resistance from parents and students and the economic dependence of school cooperatives on UPFs sales. Conclusions: These findings highlight structural and economic challenges for the effective implementation of public policies promoting healthier school food environments. Full article

Traditional product demand forecasting has typically been modeled as a single time series problem relying exclusively on temporal information. However, temporal features alone are insufficient to capture complex demand dynamics in modern, interconnected markets. To address this limitation, we propose a product demand forecasting method based on a Spatiotemporal Hypergraph Attention Network (STHA), which jointly models temporal dependencies and higher-order spatial interactions among multiple market entities to enhance forecasting accuracy and robustness. STHA integrates a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) network with a Hawkes attention mechanism to capture temporal patterns and constructs a hypergraph to represent multi-entity relationships. It further incorporates hypergraph convolution and a hypergraph attention mechanism to dynamically aggregate higher-order spatial information and weight relational importance. Experiments on the Corporación Favorita sales dataset demonstrate that STHA substantially outperforms single time series benchmarks (ARIMA, LSTM, TCN, Transformer, and PatchTST), achieving notable reductions in MAE, RMSE, and MAPE—with improvements in MAPE exceeding 15 percentage points for certain stores. Compared with the graph-based STGCN model, STHA also exhibits superior robustness. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of STHA for complex multi-market-entity demand forecasting and highlight its potential as a reliable framework for improving inventory management and supply chain decision-making. This study applies integrated LCA–LCC to 1 L of bottled beer at a representative small Japanese brewery using 2024 operational data. Following ISO 14040/44, the cradle-to-gate boundary covers raw materials (excluding agricultural cultivation while including transport and preprocessing), brewing, packaging, and thermal sterilization. The baseline global warming impact is 0.52 kg CO2e/L and the cost is JPY 487/L, with single-use glass and labor identified as dominant hotspots. As beer is produced from malt, hops, yeast, and water, this study focuses on how alternative production strategies mitigate sustainability hotspots within this process. Three alternative production scenarios were evaluated within this integrated LCA–LCC model. Scenario 1 (local rice substitution) replaces 30% of the fermentable extract from imported malt with domestically grown rice, changing only ingredient transport and preprocessing within the truncated cradle-to-gate boundary (crop cultivation remains excluded), and yields 0.55 kg CO2e/L and JPY 492/L, i.e., a slightly higher global warming impact and cost than the baseline. Scenario 2 (direct sales expansion) assumes that 50% of the beer is sold on site via draft, thereby reducing single-use glass bottles and fuel for pasteurization and achieving 0.29 kg CO2e/L (−44%) and JPY 435/L (−11%) in the deterministic model, the best combined environmental and economic performance among the modeled options. Scenario 3 (joint logistics) models cooperative brewing and shared distribution, which improve labor efficiency and modestly reduce transport intensity, delivering 399 JPY/L in the deterministic model; however, Monte Carlo analysis yields a higher expected cost and indicates that these cost savings are not robust. One-way sensitivity analysis identified packaging and labor as the dominant drivers of both environmental and economic performance, while Monte Carlo simulation confirmed the relative insignificance of electricity-related parameters and reinforced the comparative robustness of Scenario 2. Together, these results highlight the most effective leverage points for a sustainable transition in Japan’s craft beer sector, offering the greatest leverage for a more sustainable transition in Japan’s craft brewing sector. Urban air pollution and emission reduction commitments have stimulated interest in cleaner vehicle technologies in Latin America, yet hybrid vehicle penetration in Ecuador, particularly in Guayaquil, remains limited. This study analyzes technical and commercial determinants of purchase intention using a mixed-methods design that combines a survey of 384 consumers with interviews of 20 dealership representatives. Within this male-dominated sample, Spearman’s rank correlation coefficients (ρ) (all two-sided tests yielded p<0.001) indicate that technical attributes show stronger associations with purchase intention than commercial variables: technology and performance (ρ=0.65) and maintenance (ρ=0.61) are the most influential, followed by Social Influence (ρ=0.53); public policies (ρ=0.48) and purchase price (ρ=0.45) display moderate effects. Overall, 51.5% of respondents report a favorable intention to purchase a hybrid vehicle in the short to medium term. Interviews confirm an information gap on tax incentives at the point of sale and underscore the potential of financing schemes to mitigate upfront cost barriers. Findings suggest that, in this market, narratives emphasizing long-term operating savings and reliability are more persuasive than generic sustainability messages. We discuss implications for dealership communication, targeted credit programs, and public policy instruments with information campaigns to accelerate sustainable mobility transitions in urban Ecuador. While price is widely cited as decisive (84.2%), variation in technical attributes explains more of the variation in stated purchase intention than price within our sample. The survey sample was collected at an auto show and dealerships and is predominantly male (87.5%). Thus, results describe a male-skewed subset of potential buyers and should not be generalized to households or the broader consumer base. Full article

According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, there is strong evidence of a significant bounce in global e-commerce sales following the paradigm shift caused by COVID-19 in everyday life. The global e-commerce market size is projected to reach $6.33 trillion in 2024, with the top five countries being China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, and the Republic of Korea (hereafter, Korea). Among the top five global players, two countries, Korea and Japan, are particularly noteworthy because Korea has the lowest retail e-commerce sales among the top five countries despite a high penetration rate while Japan shows the lowest penetration rate while maintaining a similar level of retail e-commerce sales. The e-commerce industry in Korea and Japan is facing a new inflection point regarding sustainable growth and survival. However, the sustainability of e-commerce firms in Korea and Japan has not yet been investigated from a comparative perspective. In the context of an extremely challenging global business environment, this study focuses on a representative e-commerce firm from each country: Coupang in Korea and Rakuten in Japan. By examining these cases, this study provides important insights into sustainable management practices in the e-commerce industry from a comparative perspective. Full article

As climate policy and energy costs increasingly influence housing markets, understanding how energy efficiency is capitalized into home prices has become a critical question for both researchers and policymakers. While prior studies confirm the existence of a green premium—the price advantage of more energy-efficient homes—less is known about how this premium evolves over time in response to shifting regulations, awareness, and market conditions. This study provides new empirical evidence on the dynamic valuation of energy efficiency in the London housing market between 2013 and 2021. Using a repeat-sales framework, we isolate within-property price changes and examine how energy performance is capitalized over time. We find that the green premium associated with higher current energy efficiency strengthened steadily, rising from statistically insignificant levels in 2013 to approximately 0.47% per Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) point by 2021. Meanwhile, the price penalty for a large efficiency gap, reflecting unrealized upgrade potential, narrowed substantially in 2020 and 2021, indicating a marked reduction in buyers’ aversion to less efficient homes. This study adds a new dimension to the green premium literature. It provides empirical evidence that the relationship between energy efficiency and housing value is not static, but responsive to regulatory, economic, and social changes. By tracking year-by-year changes in London, our analysis offers insight into how quickly market preferences adjust and how interventions like minimum efficiency standards translate into property values. This enriched understanding moves the field beyond the question of whether a green premium exists, to how and why it evolves. Full article

The transition to a circular economy depends on the widespread adoption of sustainable products by consumers. However, the point-of-sale purchase decision is a complex process, influenced not only by ethical arguments but also by sensory cues. This study investigates how the aesthetics (visual design) and materiality (tactile sensation) of green products shape value perception and purchase intention. Using a qualitative methodology based on a focus group, the research directly compares consumer reactions to green products (e.g., a bamboo toothbrush) versus their conventional alternatives (e.g., plastic). Thematic analysis of the data reveals a fundamental dichotomy among consumers: while one segment associates high-tech aesthetics and perfect finishes with quality and hygiene, another segment values natural materials and their “imperfections” as signs of authenticity and responsibility. The results demonstrate that there is no single, universally accepted “sustainable aesthetic” and highlight the need for designers and marketers to align the visual and tactile language of products with the value system of the target consumer segment. The study provides a framework for understanding how design can act as either a barrier to or a catalyst for the adoption of sustainable products. Full article

The results from previous environmental studies on the physicochemical properties of bottom sediments from the Odra River estuary (SW Baltic Sea) and their contamination by pharmaceutically active compounds (PhACs) were compiled and analyzed by the use of various statistical methods (Principal Component Analysis, ANOVA/Kruskal–Wallis, Spearman correlation analysis, Partial Least Squares Discriminant Analysis, and Cluster Analysis). These studies included data on 130 PhACs determined in sediment samples collected from 70 sites across the Odra River estuary as well as the site distance to wastewater treatment plant discharge, PhACs’ physicochemical properties (Kd, Kow, pKa, solubility, metabolism), and sales data. Additionally, total organic carbon, total nitrogen, total phosphorus, acid volatile sulfides, clay mineral content, and trace elements such as As, Ba, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Hg, Mn, Mo, Ni, Pb, Sn, and Zn were analyzed. Clay mineral content and TP were identified as the key physicochemical factors influencing the spatial distribution of PhACs in bottom sediments, exerting a greater impact than the distance of sampling sites from WWTP discharge points. The distribution of PhACs in the estuary was also influenced by the Kd and solubility of the compounds. More soluble pharmaceuticals with low adsorption affinity to sediments were detected more frequently and transported to distant locations, whereas less soluble compounds with high adsorption affinity settled down in bottom sediments near contamination sources. Neither the proportion of a drug excreted unchanged, nor its prescription frequency and sales volume, influenced the spatial distribution of PhACs. In general, Kd may be a useful parameter in the planning of environmental monitoring and tracing migration of PhACs in aquatic environments. Full article

The global movement towards a cashless society has prompted the payment of tax obligations through digital platforms and sources. In this international race to ensure that transaction payments are not hindered by the lack of physical cash, Nigeria is also making progress. Therefore, the focus of this study is to assess the implications of digital payment systems in enhancing the effectiveness of tax revenue collection in Nigeria. The analysis spans from the first quarter of 2009 to the fourth quarter of 2023, utilizing the Autoregressive Distributed Lag and Error Correction Model. The research uses the most active digital payment systems that have been in operation during the study period. These electronic payment types include digital cheques (CHQs), Automated Teller Machines (ATMs), Point-of-Sales (POSs), Mobile payment (MPY), and Web-based payment (WPY). These are the predictor variables, while the tax revenue collection (TXC) during this period is the dependent variable. The control variables include information and telecommunication technology penetration rate (ICTPR), inflation, and gross domestic product. The outcomes of this study reveal that, over the long term, a percentage change in CHQs, ATMs, MPY, and ICTPR is linked to a decline of 8.1%, 12.5%, 6.7%, and 22.4% in TXC, respectively. In contrast, WPY indicates a 7.2% positive increase in TXC while inflation exerts a positive increase of 46.7%. The Error Correction Model (ECM) suggests that the deviations from the long-term equilibrium in earlier years are being corrected at a rate of 3.9% in the current year. In the short term, it is noted that digital payment systems do not influence TXC. On the other hand, GDP maintains a significant negative influence on TXC, in both the long- and short-term. Given these results, the study recommends the establishment of a robust information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure to enhance effective tax collection, even from rural areas and the informal sector. It is also important for the government to develop strategies that will bring the informal sector into the tax net. Full article

The aim of this article was to identify factors influencing the purchasing decisions of individual buyers represented by Polish doctors on the dairy product market, taking into account the demographic variable of the respondents’ age. This article is based on a survey conducted among 201 Polish doctors using the CAPI (Computer-Assisted Personal Interview) method. The collected primary data was subjected to quantitative analysis, including both a description of general trends and the identification of differences in responses between distinct age categories of respondents, as well as the identification of hidden factor structures. Conducting a study with a group of doctors perceived as experts fills a research gap in the literature and makes an important contribution to the discussion on the factors shaping the purchasing behaviour of doctors as buyers. The research revealed differences in the assessment of the importance of motivators influencing purchasing decisions for dairy products between groups of doctors separated by age. Younger respondents (aged 27–44) attach greater importance to the influence of marketing activities at the point of sale and the health attributes of dairy products, while older respondents (aged 45 and over) attach greater importance to aspects related to trust and safety as well as consumer trends. Hidden (latent) factors influencing purchasing decisions in the surveyed age-based groups of doctors were also identified in comparison with the total number of respondents, and consumer segments were identified based on the similarity of factor profiles. The results of this study can be used both by companies in the dairy sector in the process of designing marketing strategies for dairy products and by institutions influencing public health. We present empirical evidence on the sensitivity of housing demand in Chile to changes in mortgage interest rates, focusing on units priced between CLF 2000 and 4000 (approximately USD 80,000 to 160,000). This sector, which comprises nearly two-thirds of the country’s housing supply, has experienced a significant decline in sales since 2021. Given its size and responsiveness, it represents a key target for policy measures aimed at reactivating the Chilean real estate market, such as demand-side subsidies for middle-income households. Using impulse response functions derived from vector autoregressive (VAR) and semi-structural models estimated via Bayesian methods with Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) simulations, we find that a 100-basis-point increase in mortgage rates leads to an average annual decline of 18% in housing sales during the first quarter after the shock. This effect results in a cumulative decline of approximately 57% by the end of the first year. A comparable reduction in mortgage rates yields a symmetrical response. Finally, we offer a linear extrapolation of potential impacts under a hypothetical 200-basis-point decrease in mortgage rates. Full article

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on food service operations in a Brazilian tourist area. It is a longitudinal observational study. Data collection was performed through telephone interviews with owners or managers of 54 food service establishments concerning the pre-pandemic period (T0) and two time points during the pandemic (T1 and T2). Findings revealed a reduction in the number of establishments providing on-site service at T1 compared to T0, followed by an increase at T2. A reduction in operating hours (56.7%) and profits (100%) affected more establishments at T1 than at T2 (26.7% and 76.7%, respectively) (p < 0.05). At T2, with the resumption of in-person activities, there was a significant decrease in the use of sales channels such as telephone (p < 0.001), messaging applications (p = 0.0012), and websites/apps/social media (p = 0.009) compared to T0 and T1. The pandemic also caused an increase in mask use by employees (p < 0.01) and the availability of hand sanitizer dispensers at establishments (p < 0.01) during T1 and T2. At T2, there was also an increase in the supply of disposable cutlery, cups (p = 0.02), and gloves for customers (p = 0.015) compared to the pre-pandemic period. Full article

Accurately predicting how quickly people will adopt electric vehicles (EVs) is vital for planning charging stations, managing supply chains, and shaping climate policy. We present a forecasting model that uses three separate Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) branches—one for past EV sales, one for infrastructure and policy signals, and one for economic trends. An attention mechanism first highlights the most important weeks in each branch, then decides which branch matters most at any point in time. Trained end-to-end on publicly available data, the model beats traditional statistical methods and newer deep learning baselines while remaining small enough to run efficiently. An ablation study shows that every branch and both attention steps improve accuracy, and that adding policy and economic data helps more than relying on EV history alone. Because the network is modular and its attention weights are easy to interpret, it can be extended to produce confidence intervals, include physical constraints, or forecast adoption of other clean-energy technologies.
