Agroecology and Urban Food Systems: Innovations for Sustainable and Resilient Agriculture

This Special Issue aims to explore the intersection of urban food security, sustainable agriculture, and agroecological practices. It will examine how policies, economic strategies, and innovative farming systems contribute to resilient and equitable food systems in urban and peri-urban contexts. This Issue seeks contributions that address sustainable livestock management, agroecological transitions, biodiversity conservation, data-driven agricultural decision-making, and socio-economic dimensions of food production. Special attention will be given to the role of wild food plants and their sustainable use in diverse ecological and socio-economic conditions. These plants provide nutritional, cultural, and ecological value, contributing to resilient food systems and complementing cultivated crops. By bringing together research from multiple disciplines, this Special Issue will highlight practical solutions and theoretical advancements, providing a platform for researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to share insights and foster collaboration. It builds upon the existing literature on urban food systems, sustainability, and agroecology, offering a unique focus on the integration of ecological principles with urban and peri-urban agricultural development.

Manuscript Submission Information

Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Urban Science is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
