Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Sustainability has evolved from a supplementary responsibility of enterprises to a core driver of organizational transformation, profoundly reshaping business models, competitive logic, and value creation pathways. Driven by both global environmental challenges and the upgrading of social demands, integrating sustainability concepts into innovation practices and strategic planning has become a key issue for various organizations to break through growth bottlenecks and build long-term competitiveness. The in-depth integration of these fields urgently requires joint exploration through theoretical and empirical research, considering how sustainability orientation guides organizational strategic iteration, the implementation of innovative practices, and the collaboration of diverse stakeholders.

Entitled “Sustainable Innovation and Organizational Transformation: Strategies, Mechanisms, and Impacts”, this Special Issue aims to systematically examine the internal mechanisms and practical pathways through which sustainable innovation drives organizational change across different organizational types and institutional contexts. Leveraging the interdisciplinary positioning of the journal Sustainability, we warmly invite original contributions that bridge strategic management, innovation research, and sustainability science. In particular, we welcome studies focusing on how sustainability concepts empower leadership upgrading, digital practices, and the construction of entrepreneurial ecosystems.

Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Sustainability innovation-driven organizational strategic transformation;
  • Governance systems and leadership for sustainable value creation;
  • Evaluation and disclosure of organizational sustainable innovation performance;
  • Organizational strategic responses to global sustainability goals;
  • Innovative business models from the perspective of the circular economy;
  • Stakeholder collaboration and legitimacy construction in sustainable innovation;
  • Cross-industry and cross-country comparative studies on sustainable innovation practices;
  • Technology and digital transformation for enhancing sustainable practices.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.
