Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
We are excited to announce a new Special Issue focused on advanced integrated sensing for smart structures. This Special Issue will explore recent advancements in sensor technologies and their seamless integration into structures, leading to the development of truly smart systems that are capable of advanced functionalities such as self-monitoring and self-adaptation.
We welcome the submission of original research and review articles whose scope includes, but is not limited to, the following topics:
- Novel Sensing Technologies: New materials, principles, and designs for sensors, such as piezoresistive, piezolectric, capacitive/inductive, magnetic-based, fiber optics, MEMS, nanotechnology-based sensors, and wireless sensor networks.
- Sensor Integration Strategies: Integration and communication techniques for deploying sparse or dense sensor distributed networks within structures or structural components.
- Data Acquisition and Processing for Smart Structures: Advanced algorithms, machine learning, and artificial intelligence for real-time data interpretation, anomaly detection, and predictive maintenance.
- Powering and Communication for Integrated Sensors: Innovative solutions for energy harvesting, low-power sensor operation, and robust wireless communication protocols in challenging environments.
- Applications of Smart Structures: Case studies and theoretical frameworks demonstrating the use of integrated sensing for structural health monitoring, smart cities, adaptive structures, disaster mitigation, and infrastructure resilience.
- Challenges and Future Directions: Discussions on automation and artifical inteeligence-based monitoring, standardization, cybersecurity, long-term reliability, and the societal impact of widespread smart structures adoption.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sensors is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
