Dear Colleagues,
We invite submissions for the Special Issue, “Functional Porous and Hybrid Materials for Emerging Environmental Challenges”, which aims to gather recent advances in the synthesis and application of novel porous materials to address emerging environmental challenges. The development of functional and sustainable porous materials has created new opportunities for the efficient removal, separation, capture and detection of contaminants in water, soil, air and other environmental matrices. This Special Issue will focus on porous materials, including metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), covalent organic frameworks (COFs), porous polymers, porous carbons, zeolites, mesoporous and hierarchical materials, porous composites and hybrid or bio-based porous systems. Biochar and other waste-derived adsorbents have emerged as promising sustainable materials for water remediation, making them a highly relevant and timely addition to this Special Issue. We welcome papers addressing the application of porous materials in the adsorption and removal of emerging contaminants, heavy metals, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, dyes, microorganisms, nutrients and other hazardous substances. Studies involving selective separation, membrane-based processes, catalytic and photocatalytic remediation, advanced oxidation processes, pollutant recovery and carbon capture are also encouraged. Furthermore, applications of porous materials in environmental sensing, sample preparation, pre-concentration and contaminant monitoring are highly relevant to the scope of this Special Issue. We invite the submission of original research articles, communications and review articles that present significant advances in the development and application of novel porous materials for environmental protection, remediation and monitoring.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Processes is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
