Dear Colleagues,
Emerging Organic Pollutants (EOPs) are synthetic or naturally occurring chemical compounds that are not monitored in the environment and may cause adverse ecological effects and threaten human health and life. In light of their potential adverse effects, it is necessary to urgently undertake research that will expand knowledge about the behavior of these compounds in the environment and their toxicity. EOP compounds are durable and difficult to biodegrade; therefore, conventional wastewater treatment technologies cannot completely remove them. Additionally, under the influence of oxidizing factors, degradation products are formed, which may be highly toxic, mobile, and persistent in the aquatic environment, hence harming fauna and flora, and they have the potential to transfer along the human food chain.
This Special Issue on “Environmental Fate, Ecological Impact and Treatment of Emerging Organic Pollutants (EOPs)” seeks high-quality works focusing on expanding knowledge about the presence of EOPs in the environment and their impact on ecosystem components. Topics include, but are not limited to:
- Impact of EOPs and their transformation products on the environment;
- Determination of EOPs in environmental matrices;
- Research on the treatment of sewage and waste streams from EOPs;
- Determination of toxicity of EOPs and their transformation products.
