Advanced Oxidation Technologies for Emerging Pollutants: Electrochemical and Photocatalytic Approaches

Dear Colleagues,

Emerging pollutants (EPs), including persistent organic compounds, endocrine disruptors, antibiotics, and microplastics, pose significant threats to ecosystems and human health due to their persistence, bioaccumulation, and toxicity. Conventional water treatment methods often fail to effectively remove these contaminants, necessitating advanced oxidation technologies (AOPs) as promising solutions.

This Special Issue on “Advanced Oxidation Technologies for Emerging Pollutants: Electrochemical and Photocatalytic Approaches” seeks high-quality works focusing on electrochemical and photocatalytic AOPs for the treatment of EPs. Topics include but are not limited to the following: electrochemical AOPs, photocatalytic AOPs, comparative analysis of electrochemical vs. photocatalytic methods, challenges and future directions, mechanistic insights and modeling, field-scale applications and case studies, novel catalyst materials, emerging contaminant-specific treatment strategies, and cross-disciplinary innovations.

Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
