Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Plant pathogen interaction constitutes a core research area in plant pathology, molecular biology, and agricultural biotechnology. It serves as the theoretical foundation for deciphering plant disease resistance mechanisms, elucidating pathogen infection strategies, and developing crop disease control technologies. Against the backdrop of global climate change, intensive farming practices, and rapid pathogen evolution, crop diseases occur frequently, host resistance declines, and emerging diseases break out, severely restricting the high-quality development of agriculture and forestry industries as well as food and ecological security.
In recent years, with the rapid advancement of frontier technologies including multi-omics sequencing, gene editing, non-coding RNA regulation, microbiome profiling, and artificial intelligence-assisted prediction, remarkable breakthroughs have been achieved in understanding cross-kingdom crosstalk, immune recognition, signaling pathway regulation, effector-mediated immune evasion by pathogens, and host resistance evolution. These advances have revolutionized our understanding of plant disease resistance and pathogen virulence. Meanwhile, green technologies derived from mechanistic insights, such as broad-spectrum disease-resistant breeding, microbial-based ecological disease control, and precision intelligent plant protection, have become vital alternatives to conventional chemical pesticides for achieving green and sustainable agriculture.
This Special Issue aims to systematically summarize the latest findings, frontier theories, and practical applications in plant pathogen interaction research. We welcome high-quality original research articles, review papers, and technical innovation manuscripts covering plant immune regulatory networks, pathogen virulence and evolutionary mechanisms, cross-kingdom molecular interactions, stress-modulated host-pathogen responses, novel analytical technologies, disease-resistant germplasm innovation, and green disease control strategies. The outcomes will provide theoretical support and technical references for crop genetic improvement for disease resistance, green management of major crop diseases, and establishment of eco-friendly plant protection systems, facilitating the integration of fundamental plant pathology research with agricultural production.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Plants is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
