Dear Colleagues,
Antimicrobial stewardship refers to the coordinated efforts of healthcare professionals to optimize the use of antibiotics and other antimicrobial drugs to ensure that they are used appropriately and effectively. Pharmacists play a crucial role in antimicrobial stewardship by working closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to monitor patients’ antimicrobial therapy and make recommendations for the appropriate use, dosage, and duration of treatment. They also provide education to patients and healthcare providers on the importance of using antibiotics only when necessary, adhering to dosing regimens, completing the full course of treatment, and monitoring the risks associated with misuse. Overall, pharmacists are essential members of the healthcare team in the fight against antimicrobial resistance and the promotion of safe and effective antimicrobial use, in the desire to improve patient outcomes.
This Special Issue, titled “The Pharmacist’s Role in Antimicrobial Stewardship and Use”, aims to highlight the critical role that pharmacists play in promoting appropriate antimicrobial use and stewardship. The Special Issue aims to collate current research, practices, and innovations in antimicrobial stewardship from around the world to showcase the important contributions of pharmacists in this area.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Pharmacy is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
