Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The aging of the human body is a universal and irreversible process that, despite being often euphemized in everyday language, has profound implications for healthcare systems worldwide. As life expectancy and the proportion of older adults continue to rise in developed nations, addressing the complex clinical needs of this demographic has become a priority in modern medicine and pharmaceutical sciences.
Aging is closely associated with the emergence of Geriatric Giants—multifactorial conditions such as malnutrition, falls, cognitive decline, and incontinence, all of which significantly diminish functional independence. Additionally, geriatric patients are commonly affected by multimorbidity and require multiple medications, which heightens the risk of adverse drug–drug and drug–nutrient interactions.
In such contexts, timely and precise diagnostics are critical. Laboratory medicine and biomarker measurement are gaining recognition as essential tools in assessing clinical status, enabling earlier intervention, optimizing therapeutic strategies, and ultimately improving outcomes. An assessment of the relationship between the patient's condition and changes in laboratory parameters is crucial for proper management and a personalized approach to the patient. At the same time, there is an urgent need for innovative, personalized pharmacological approaches adapted to older individuals' unique physiological and clinical profiles.
This Special Issue invites high-quality original research and comprehensive reviews that address the medical and pharmacological complexities of aging. We particularly welcome submissions that explore the clinical application of biomarkers in geriatric diagnostics and studies on the discovery and development of novel therapeutics, spanning from computational modeling and laboratory research to clinical trials and regulatory approval.
Join us in advancing the geriatric medicine and pharmacy field by contributing to this timely and impactful collection.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Pharmaceuticals is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2900 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
