Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Lifestyle interventions are essential for preventing and managing type 2 diabetes and related metabolic diseases. Evidence highlights the value of multidimensional strategies integrating physical activity, targeted dietary modifications, weight management, and behavioral support to strengthen long-term adherence. Personalized programs that incorporate therapeutic education and digital health tools for behavior tracking and metabolic monitoring have shown strong effectiveness. Additionally, endocrine regulation, sleep optimization, stress management, and psychosocial support are increasingly recognized as key modulators of metabolic risk in individuals with diabetes. Together, these holistic strategies improve metabolic outcomes, reduce complications, and enhance quality of life.

Beyond glycemic control, lifestyle interventions also benefit cardiovascular health and frequent diabetes-related conditions, such as metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), neuropathy, retinopathy, and nephropathy. Emerging evidence underscores the role of the gut microbiota as a mediator of nutritional and lifestyle adaptations, influencing systemic metabolism, inflammation, and organ-specific outcomes.

For this Special Issue, we seek high-quality contributions examining the effects of lifestyle interventions on diabetes prevention and management, with a focus on cardiometabolic health, MASLD, microvascular complications, and microbiota-mediated mechanisms. Original research, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses exploring mechanistic, clinical, and implementation aspects of physical activity, nutrition, behavioral strategies, and digital health solutions are encouraged to advance evidence-based practice.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Nutrients is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2900 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
