Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Over the past decades, the existing knowledge of the detrimental effect of saturated lipids on cardiovascular health has been highlighted by a plethora of epidemiological and prospective studies in the literature. Previous guidelines from the European Society of Cardiology encouraged the replacement of saturated fats with unsaturated fats to reduce cardiovascular risk. However, in the recent dietary guidelines for Americans, the incorporation of healthy fats such as meat, poultry and eggs in the diet is advised as a part of a healthy diet, although stating saturated fat consumption should not exceed 10% of total daily calories. Indeed, although high cholesterol is a strong risk factor of cardiovascular disease and, as the leading dietary cause of high cholesterol, the consumption of saturated fat is not encouraged, there is evidence in the literature disputing the harmful effect of saturated fat on cardiovascular health, concluding that saturated fat naturally occurring in nutrient-dense foods can be safely included in the diet. Consequently, more high-quality research is needed to determine which types of dietary fats better support cardiovascular health. The aim of the present Special Issue is to clarify the specific role of saturated and unsaturated lipids in cardiovascular health and to elucidate the optimal lipid diets for the general population and patient groups.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Nutrients is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2900 CHF (Swiss Francs).
