Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Malnutrition is associated with a higher risk of developing dementia and mortality in neurodegenerative disorders. These disorders are characterized by the selective dysfunction and progressive loss of neurons and glial cells in the brain or peripheral nervous system, leading to cognitive decline and other functional impairments. This Special Issue, entitled ‘Nutritional Problems Related to Neuroprotection and Cognition’, presents the latest scientific achievements regarding the interactions between cognitive functions and nutrition in neurodegenerative disorders, aiming to identify novel dietary supplements that may prevent or delay cognitive decline and neurodegeneration. Therefore, this Special Issue welcomes the submission of cellular, animal, clinical and case studies that explore recent advances in the development of diets rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds, as well as calorie-restricted diets; this could provide a potential non-pharmacological therapy in neurodegenerative disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease, Down syndrome, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease. This Special Issue aims to address the need to treat these disorders and reduce the burden on healthcare systems, families, and societies.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Nutrients is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
