Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue aims to explore recent advances in nutritional medicine and functional foods driven by advanced and emerging technologies. With growing interest in the role of diet-derived bioactive compounds in the prevention and management of inflammation and chronic diseases, innovative technological approaches are increasingly being applied to enhance their efficacy, bioavailability, and mechanistic understanding.

This Special Issue will cover a broad range of topics, including functional food-derived bioactive compounds (e.g., medicinal mushrooms, plant-based extracts, probiotics, and marine resources), as well as advanced technology-enabled strategies such as nanotechnology-based delivery systems, multi-omics approaches, artificial intelligence, and systems biology. Particular attention will be given to the interactions between nutrition, gut microbiota, and immune responses, as well as applications in inflammation, metabolic disorders, and chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and neurodegenerative disorders. This Special Issue also welcomes studies on animal-derived nutrients, bioactive compounds, and relevant animal models that contribute to a better understanding of the role of nutrition in human health and disease.

In addition, this Special Issue acknowledges perspectives aligned with the One Health approach, emphasizing the interconnected roles of human, animal, and environmental factors in nutritional science, particularly where these contribute to human health and disease outcomes.

We also welcome translational and clinical studies evaluating efficacy and safety, as well as emerging strategies integrating advanced technologies with nutritional interventions for personalized nutrition and precision health. This Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive platform for interdisciplinary research bridging nutrition, technology, and disease management.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Nutrients is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2900 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
