Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue focuses on recent advances in materials and chemical technologies for water treatment and their application in sustainable water purification processes. It aims to provide a platform for original research and high-quality review articles addressing current challenges related to water quality protection, resource efficiency, and environmental sustainability. Contributions dealing with the synthesis, modification, and functionalization of innovative materials, as well as the development and optimization of chemical treatment technologies that enhance purification performance while minimizing environmental impact, are particularly encouraged.

Special attention is given to environmentally friendly and functional materials for sustainable water treatment chemiscal technologies, including adsorption, photocatalysis, membrane separation, and hybrid systems. Studies addressing water reuse and recycling strategies, wastewater reclamation, desalination, drinking water purification, and municipal and industrial wastewater treatment are within the scope of this Special Issue. Research focusing on the treatment and discharge of industrial effluents and strategies aimed at reducing pressure on natural water resources is also welcome.

Topics of particular interest include the removal of emerging and persistent contaminants such as pharmaceuticals, pesticides, micro- and nano-plastics, persistent organic pollutants, trace metals, metalloids, organometallic compounds, radionuclides, and other hazardous industrial chemicals. This Special Issue emphasizes chemical technologies and materials that demonstrate effective pollutant reduction and clear potential for practical implementation. While laboratory-scale investigations are not excluded, priority is given to studies that go beyond fundamental laboratory conditions and demonstrate relevance for real-world water treatment applications.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Molecules is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
