Dear Colleagues,
Microbial metabolites play a crucial role in human health and are increasingly recognized as important indicators in a wide range of disease processes, including infectious and host–microbe interaction-related conditions. Recent advances in analytical technologies have provided unprecedented chemical and biological insights into microorganisms and their metabolic products. This Special Issue focuses on the application of advanced analytical techniques—such as liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC-MS), gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and spectroscopy—in microbial and clinical research. We invite submissions that highlight method development, validation, and the application of these techniques to microbial profiling, biomarker discovery for infectious and metabolic diseases, elucidation of molecular mechanisms in host–pathogen interactions, and innovations in diagnostic microbiology. The scope of this Special Issue emphasizes the use of cutting-edge analytical approaches to investigate microbial metabolites and their roles in disease pathogenesis and diagnostic applications. We particularly welcome original research articles, reviews, and methodological studies that demonstrate the integration of analytical technologies into microbiology and diagnostic research, showcasing their potential to advance understanding and clinical translation.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Microorganisms is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
