Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce a Special Issue of Micromachines titled ‘Nanomaterials for Biomedical Applications: Progress and Challenges’, which aims to highlight the recent advancements and breakthroughs in the field of nanomaterials for their usage in various avenues of biomedical engineering. Nanomaterials such as quantum dots, metallic nanomaterials, core–shell nanomaterials, polymeric nanomaterials, 2D materials, etc., have garnered significant attention due to their exceptional electronic, optical, and mechanical properties. These materials has immense potential to revolutionize the design and performance of biosensors and biomedical devices for various applications, including medical diagnostics, drug delivery systems, wearable health monitors, and tissue engineering, among others.

This Special Issue invites researchers, scientists, and experts from various disciplines to submit their original research articles, review papers, and perspectives, underscoring the potential of nanomaterials in addressing the current challenges in biosensing and medical device development, as well as their transformative impact on healthcare and biomedical engineering.

Potential topics for this Special Issue encompass, but is not limited to, the following:

  1. Novel nanomaterial-based biosensors for disease detection and diagnosis;
  2. Advancements in nanomaterials for wearable health monitoring devices;
  3. Nanomaterials for soft electronics for personalized health care;
  4. Nanomaterials for drug delivery and theranostic applications;
  5. Biofunctionalization of nanomaterials for improved biocompatibility and bioactivity;
  6. Integration of nanomaterials in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine;
  7. Emerging fabrication techniques for nanomaterial-based biomedical devices;
  8. Challenges and opportunities in translating nanomaterials from lab to clinical settings.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Micromachines is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
