Solid Phase Processing

Dear Colleagues,

The journal Metals is now preparing a Special Issue on the topic of Solid Phase Processing (SSP) and you are cordially invited to submit original research for publication. Manuscripts ranging from short communications to full length articles are welcome. As researchers, we sometimes feel that publications must tell an elaborate, fully developed, story; however, this constraint can limit dissemination of exciting new observations throughout the scientific community. We emphasize that short, crisp, and concise letter-style manuscripts are highly encouraged.

SPP encompasses a variety of thermomechanical processing techniques that impart extreme plastic deformation to achieve novel microstructures and improved bulk properties. Of particular interest are SPP techniques that are capable of fabricating bulk quantities of material. Examples include, but are not limited to, friction stir welding and processing, friction extrusion, cold spray, friction consolidation, equal channel angular pressing, impact welding, and accumulative roll bonding. Severe Plastic Deformation (SPD) techniques that yield extreme grain refinement are also welcome. Examples include high-pressure torsion, cyclic extrusion and compression, repetitive corrugation and straightening, and multi-forging. Research that explores any combination of the process–microstructure–property relationship in metals undergoing extreme plastic deformation is within scope for this Special Issue.

This Special Issue on Solid Phase Processing is a unique opportunity to collect research that, historically, has been dispersed across a broad of range of journals. We look forward to receiving your manuscript!

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Metals is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
