Recycling and Reuse of Rare Precious Metal Secondary Resources

A circular economy is regenerative by the design and aim to achieve the maximum utilization of resources through product design, recovery, reuse, remanufacturing and recycling. A low-carbon economy seeks to achieve social, economic, and environmental developmental goals, while reducing long-term greenhouse gas emissions and solid waste accumulation. The metallurgical industry is an important part of circular and low-carbon economies, working towards waste minimization and the reduction in energy consumption.

Metallurgy by-products are parallel produced from metallurgy processes (pyrometallurgy, hydrometallurgy, and electrometallurgy). Thanks to the development of innovative technologies and industry synergies, the recycling and reuse of by-products have significantly increased. The usage of by-products improves the material’s efficiency rate and reduces energy consumption and CO2 emissions, contributing to circular and low-carbon economies.

The main by-products are slag, salt, dust, sludge, gas, etc., which still have a high reuse value because of their energetic and chemical contents. This Special Issue focuses on the recycling and reuse of metallurgical by-products. Contributions are expected to cover topics related to sustainable technologies and practices and low-carbon processes and solutions.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Metals is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
