Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue focuses on advancing our understanding of animal nutrition and metabolism through integrative approaches that combine precision nutrition, metabolomics, gut microbiota research, and artificial intelligence. We welcome studies that explore how dietary strategies influence metabolic pathways, microbiome composition, growth, immune function, and overall health in both farm and companion animals, with particular attention to strategies that enhance the well-being and quality of life of pets. We particularly seek research employing high-throughput technologies and AI-driven analyses to identify biomarkers, uncover metabolic mechanisms, and optimize individualized or population-level nutritional strategies. The scope includes both fundamental and applied studies, from controlled mechanistic experiments to large-scale cohort analyses, addressing topics such as nutrient–microbiome interactions, metabolic adaptations, and predictive modeling of performance, health, and longevity. The purpose of this Special Issue is to foster interdisciplinary research that translates metabolic and microbiome insights into practical strategies for improving animal welfare, productivity, and sustainable management while highlighting the potential of advanced technologies to drive innovation in both farm and companion animal science.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Metabolites is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
