Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Obesity and diabetes represent major global health challenges affecting both pediatric and adult populations and contributing to a broad spectrum of metabolic complications. Alterations in metabolites and metabolic pathways involved in glucose and lipid metabolism, insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, chronic low-grade inflammation, adipose tissue dysfunction, and oxidative stress play central roles in the development and progression of obesity- and diabetes-related comorbidities.
This Special Issue, entitled “Metabolic Complication of Obesity and Diabetes”, aims to provide an interdisciplinary platform for original research and comprehensive reviews addressing metabolic pathways, biomarkers, clinical phenotypes, and consequences of metabolic dysfunction across the lifespan. Particular attention will be given to metabolites and metabolic and inflammatory biomarkers with potential value for early detection, risk stratification, and prediction of metabolic complications.
Topics of interest include insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome; alterations in glucose and lipid metabolism; dyslipidemia and lipotoxicity; metabolic and hematological inflammatory biomarkers; adipose tissue dysfunction and chronic inflammation; oxidative stress; gut microbiota dysbiosis and microbiome-derived metabolites; metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease; obstructive sleep apnea and associated metabolic dysfunction; obesity-associated reproductive and endocrine disorders, including polycystic ovary syndrome; cardiometabolic complications; and metabolic alterations associated with diabetes and its complications.
Studies involving children, adolescents, and adults are encouraged, including clinical and biochemical investigations as well as metabolomic, lipidomic, microbiome-related, and other omics approaches. Studies investigating novel metabolites and metabolic biomarkers; metabolic phenotypes and pathways; predictors of disease progression; and metabolic responses to lifestyle, nutritional, pharmacological, or other therapeutic interventions are particularly welcome. The ultimate goal is to improve our understanding of metabolic dysfunction and support more precise strategies for risk assessment, prevention, and individualized management of obesity- and diabetes-related metabolic complications.

Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process.
