Dear Colleagues,
Joint arthroplasty, including both total and partial procedures, represents one of the most effective interventions for the treatment of degenerative and traumatic joint disorders, providing substantial improvements in pain relief and functional outcomes. Despite continuous advances in surgical techniques and implant design, inter-patient anatomical and biomechanical variability remains a major determinant of surgical complexity and outcome predictability.
In recent years, the integration of digital and computational technologies has progressively reshaped the field, enabling more informed, data-driven, and patient-adapted approaches. Artificial intelligence is increasingly applied to patient stratification, outcome prediction, and implant selection, while advanced computational modelling and digital twin concepts allow virtual simulations of patients to support preoperative planning and surgical decision-making. In parallel, robotic platforms, computer-assisted navigation, and augmented reality technologies contribute to improved spatial awareness and alignment accuracy, strengthening the link between preoperative planning and intraoperative execution. Within this evolving framework, three-dimensional printing complements digital workflows by enabling the physical realization of patient-specific implants and surgical guides.
This Special Issue aims to gather high-quality clinical and translational contributions addressing the practical integration of emerging technologies into joint arthroplasty, with a specific focus on preoperative planning, patient-specific modelling, and data-informed surgical decision support. We welcome original research articles, clinical studies, and review papers that demonstrate clear relevance to joint arthroplasty and tangible clinical impact, while promoting constructive interaction between medical and engineering perspectives and contributing to the ongoing advancement of more precise, reproducible, and personalized joint replacement strategies.

Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process.
