Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The surgical management of colorectal cancer is increasingly orientated toward minimally invasive techniques, such as conventional and mini-laparoscopy, robotic-assisted surgery, and natural orifice specimen extraction. The introduction of multiple robotic platforms has further expanded the adoption of robotic colectomies, offering well-recognized advantages, including three-dimensional visualization, enhanced dexterity, and stable camera control. Beyond the technological improvements, minimally invasive approaches have been shown to reduce surgical stress, accelerate post-operative recovery, and improve clinical outcomes. When combined with enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols, these techniques contribute to lower complication rates and better patient experiences.
This Special Issue will provide an updated overview of recent progress in perioperative care and surgical innovation for patients with colorectal cancer. We particularly welcome contributions addressing multimodal prehabilitation strategies, the optimization of perioperative management, novel methods for safe and effective anastomosis, and the integration of emerging technologies into surgical practice.
Furthermore, this Special Issue will highlight cutting-edge topics such as the application of artificial intelligence in perioperative medicine, with a focus on its role in predicting recovery trajectories and identifying patients at risk for complications. Another area of interest includes the evaluation of perioperative pathways and their impact on patient-reported outcomes and overall quality of care.
We encourage the submission of high-quality manuscripts, including original research articles, comparative studies, clinical outcome analyses, and narrative and scoping reviews, as well as systematic reviews and meta-analyses. By showcasing innovative contributions, this Special Issue will advance knowledge and promote best practices in surgical treatment and perioperative care in colorectal cancer.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Medicina is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2200 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
