Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Over recent decades, the field of gynecological surgery has undergone a profound transformation, particularly in the management of gynecologic cancers. Advances in surgical technology, imaging, and perioperative care have reshaped how complex benign and malignant conditions are approached. The integration of minimally invasive and robotic techniques, along with improved anatomical understanding and precision-guided interventions, has enabled surgeons to achieve better oncologic and functional outcomes. At the same time, the management of gynecologic malignancies has become increasingly multidisciplinary, combining surgery with systemic therapies and personalized treatment strategies. Equally important is the growing emphasis on anticipating, preventing, and effectively managing surgical complications to ensure optimal patient safety and recovery.
This Special Issue, “New Trends in Gynecological Surgery,” seeks to highlight cutting-edge developments in surgical practice, with particular attention to innovations that enhance the management of gynecological cancers, complex benign conditions, and associated complications. We aim to gather high-quality contributions that advance surgical techniques, optimize patient outcomes, and strengthen the integration of surgery within comprehensive care pathways.
Scope of the Special Issue
- Advances in minimally invasive procedures, including laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, vNOTES, and robotic-assisted surgery for both benign and malignant gynecologic conditions;
- Surgical management of gynecologic cancers, including ovarian, cervical, endometrial, vulvar, and rare malignancies;
- Fertility-sparing and organ-preserving surgical approaches in oncologic and non-oncologic settings;
- Innovations in cytoreductive surgery, sentinel lymph node mapping, and surgical staging techniques;
- Prevention, early recognition, and management of intraoperative and postoperative complications (e.g., hemorrhage, organ injury, infections, thromboembolic events);
- Strategies for managing complex and high-risk surgical cases, including re-operative surgery and adhesiolysis;
- Integration of surgery with systemic therapies, including neoadjuvant and adjuvant treatment strategies;
- Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols and perioperative optimization in oncologic and complex surgeries;
- Technological advancements, including AI-assisted surgery, imaging guidance, and surgical simulation;
- Patient safety, surgical outcomes, quality improvement, and long-term survivorship care.
Through this Special Issue, we aim to foster interdisciplinary collaboration, promote innovation, and provide insights into the evolving role of surgery in the comprehensive management of gynecological diseases, particularly cancers, while emphasizing the critical importance of complication prevention and management in achieving optimal patient outcomes.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Medicina is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2200 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
