Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In the recent years, a great deal of attention has been focused on sustainable renewable energy and green chemistry applications owing to a range of economic, societal and environmental reasons. This has already resulted in the conception of the bio-refinery model and the development of several generations of biofuel and platform chemicals from renewable sources (such as triglycerides, starch, lignocellulose and microalgae) utilising a range of processes, from enzymatic hydrolysis and fermentation to catalytic conversion of biomass and bio-oil upgrading. Meeting the challenges posed by varying feedstocks and demanding reaction conditions will require new catalysts with enhanced performance based on improved mass transport, superior activity and selectivity, and high thermal and hydrothermal stability. These may include macro-meso-microporous zeolites, zeotypes and metal oxides, as well as metal–organic frameworks and related nanostructured materials.

The scope of this Special Issue includes the preparation, characterisation, application and modelling of zeolites and related nanostructured materials for the production of renewable fuels and platform chemicals in a sustainable way, utilising environmentally friendly technologies related to modern bio-refinery approaches. The contributions invited include original and significant research articles that are of interest to both academic and industrial scientists.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Materials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
