Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The "Micro and Nano Processing Technologies of Modern Ceramics" book project aims to systematically present the techniques most used for the preparation of advanced ceramic materials, their relation with the structure and properties, and the subsequent technological application(s).

By definition, ceramic materials are inorganic non-metallic solids that have crystalline or semi-crystalline structures. This project intends to include pertinent information about non-crystalline materials, whose formation processes are similar to those used for ceramic materials, and to present the latest technological advances in terms of processing at the micro and nano-technological level of materials and devices.

This book is intended to be a reference for students and professionals looking to understand the key concepts of ceramic engineering, introducing the interrelationships between processing; micro and nanostructure; physical, chemical, and biological properties; and applications. Therefore, the processing technologies to be included are not just the traditional ones, and should not be restricted to additive, subtractive, modification or doping conformation techniques, whether based on physical or chemical methods. It is intended to provide high coverage in the presentation of the currently most used and modern processing technologies. It also intends to highlight the growing importance of studies based on simulation and numerical modeling.

This book is planned to be a compilation of full descriptions of advanced ceramic materials processing techniques focused on real applications or with high potential. The impact of such techniques on the raw materials, the process, costs, environment, etc., should also be discussed. The range of potential applications should be as wide as possible, with expected applications in the fields of ceramics; mechanics; electronics; communications; optics; energy production, storage, and distribution; medicine and biomedicine; etc. Particular case studies can be presented.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Materials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
