Dear Colleagues,
I would like to invite you to contribute to this Special Issue of Materials, ‘Metallic Coatings for Corrosion Protection: Electroplating, Thermal Spray, and Cladding’. Corrosion continues to impose significant costs on society, such as increased financial expenditure, wasted natural resources, and premature component failure, which can be detrimental both to the environment as well as the health and safety of those affected. One way by which the life of a metallic component can be extended is through the use of coatings—for example, by electroplating, thermal spray, and cladding—which act as a barrier between the surface and its environment to resist material degradation.
The purpose of this Special Issue is to present the latest developments in corrosion-resistant coatings to improve the performance of industrial components. Full papers, review articles, and short communications are all welcome. The topics covered by this Special Issue may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Coatings to improve the corrosion resistance of metallic components;
- Tribo-corrosion;
- Characterisation of claddings and thermal-sprayed and electroplated coatings;
- New developments in coating deposition methods;
- Applications of thermal spraying, electroplating, and cladding in corrosive environments.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Materials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
