Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Cast superalloys are indispensable core materials for hot-section components in aeroengines and industrial gas turbines, underpinning the safe operation of high-end power and aerospace systems. Their exceptional high-temperature strength, outstanding fatigue and corrosion resistance, and excellent castability fundamentally determine the service reliability and extended longevity of advanced power-generation and propulsion equipment. Driven by the rapid performance upgrading of high-end aerospace and energy facilities, conventional cast superalloys now face inherent limitations, including severe elemental segregation, unavoidable micro-casting imperfections, and insufficient extreme high-temperature bearing capacity. This necessitates targeted breakthrough innovations in precision alloy composition design, near-net-shape precision casting technologies, and fine-scale microstructure and property regulation.

This Special Issue gathers state-of-the-art research advances on composition modification, directional solidification mechanism control, precision casting process optimization, dynamic microstructure evolution, critical defect elimination, and long-term high-temperature service behavior of cast superalloys, aiming to overview recent global research frontiers and key technical breakthroughs and summarize novel material modification approaches and industrially applicable engineering strategies. The expected outcomes will provide solid theoretical guidance and practical technical references for the fundamental research, manufacturing process optimization, and large-scale industrial promotion of high-performance cast superalloys, further promoting the sustainable innovation and high-quality development of advanced high-temperature structural materials for critical engineering applications.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Materials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
