Gut Microbial Dysbiosis in the Pathogenesis of Gastrointestinal Disorders

Dear Colleagues,

The gut microbiota plays a fundamental role in maintaining intestinal homeostasis, supporting the mucosal barrier, and regulating immune function. An imbalance in this complex ecosystem, known as dysbiosis, is increasingly recognized as a key factor in the pathogenesis of various gastrointestinal disorders. Particularly, dysbiosis has been strongly associated with the development and persistence of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBDs) such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.

External factors, including diet, oxidative stress, and antibiotic use, significantly influence microbial composition and can precipitate dysbiosis. This altered state can disrupt intestinal integrity, promote inflammation, and may even be linked to extra-intestinal autoimmune manifestations.

This Special Issue will explore the mechanisms linking gut dysbiosis to gastrointestinal pathologies. We welcome original research and reviews focusing on nutritional strategies, probiotics, and other therapeutic interventions aimed at restoring eubiosis and improving patient outcomes.
