Diagnosis, Treatment and Prognosis of Head and Neck Disorders

This special issue belongs to the section “Medical Research“.

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Disorders of the head and neck region represent a highly diverse and clinically complex group of diseases, encompassing inflammatory conditions, benign and malignant tumors, functional disorders, and traumatic or iatrogenic injuries. The head and neck region plays essential roles in respiration, phonation, mastication, swallowing, olfaction, and aesthetics; thus, diseases affecting this anatomical area may have profound impacts on patients' quality of life, psychological well-being, and long-term prognosis.

Recent advances in diagnostic technology—including high-resolution endoscopy, radiologic imaging, molecular pathology, and artificial intelligence-based analysis—have significantly improved early detection and diagnostic accuracy. Meanwhile, therapeutic strategies have rapidly evolved, incorporating precision radiotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and novel pharmacological interventions. Despite these advances, challenges remain in optimizing individualized treatment strategies, predicting disease progression, and improving long-term functional and oncological outcomes.

This Special Issue aims to provide an up-to-date overview of research on the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of head and neck disorders by integrating clinical, translational, and technological perspectives. We welcome original research articles, reviews, and case-based studies that explore innovative diagnostic tools, emerging therapeutic modalities, prognostic biomarkers, rehabilitation strategies, and long-term outcome analyses.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Advanced diagnostic approaches and imaging technologies;
  • Molecular and immunological mechanisms underlying head and neck disorders;
  • Medical and radiation-based therapies, including targeted and immunotherapies;
  • Prognostic factors and predictive models;
  • Functional outcomes, quality of life, and rehabilitation;
  • Artificial intelligence and digital health applications in head and neck care;
  • Prevention, early detection, and screening strategies.

By bringing together multidisciplinary insights from clinicians, researchers, and biomedical engineers, this Special Issue aims to foster academic exchange and inspire future research directions in the rapidly evolving field of head and neck medicine. Ultimately, our goal is to improve diagnostic accuracy, optimize treatment outcomes, and enhance patient-centered care.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Life is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
