Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Urban areas are experiencing unprecedented growth, accompanied by complex environmental, social, and economic challenges. Rapid urbanization, climate change, and increasing pressure on natural resources require innovative approaches to urban planning and landscape design. Sustainable urban development has become a critical research area, aiming to balance human needs with ecological integrity, climate resilience, and social well-being. Recent studies highlight the importance of integrating green infrastructure, ecosystem services, and participatory planning into urban landscapes to enhance resilience, reduce environmental impacts, and promote inclusive communities. By exploring strategies for sustainable land use, landscape restoration, and climate-adaptive urban design, researchers can provide actionable insights to guide policymakers, planners, and practitioners in creating livable and resilient cities.
The goal of this Special Issue is to collect papers (original research articles and review papers) to give insights about sustainable urban planning and landscape design. This Special Issue aims to explore strategies, tools, and approaches that support resilient, environmentally responsible, and socially inclusive urban development. Topics of interest include innovative land-use planning, integration of green and blue infrastructure, climate-adaptive design, and participatory approaches in landscape and urban planning.
This subject aligns closely with the scope of Land, which focuses on the study of landscapes, land use, and the interaction between human activities and the environment. Through an interdisciplinary approach, this Special Issue seeks to promote knowledge on how sustainable urban and landscape planning can support a higher quality of life and better spatial quality.
This Special Issue will welcome manuscripts that link the following themes:
- Sustainable land-use planning and management;
- Climate-adaptive and resilience-oriented urban strategies;
- Green and blue infrastructure planning;
- Nature-based solutions and ecosystem-based approaches;
- Landscape-led urban regeneration and redevelopment;
- Cultural landscapes and heritage-sensitive planning;
- Urban–rural interfaces and peri-urban landscapes;
