Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
In the last thirty years, research and development at all levels of industry, agriculture, livestock farming, etc., have led to a significant improvement in society, marking a turning point in terms of the enormous progress made and the great advances achieved. In this changing world, laboratories are at the forefront of innovation and discovery. They have been and will continue to be the place where small ideas grow into big achievements, enabling challenges to be overcome and great work to be carried out, leading to a more modern and advanced society. This Special Issue, titled "Feature Papers to Celebrate the Inaugural Issue of Laboratories" aims to highlight the cutting-edge developments and transformative technologies that are reshaping laboratories across various disciplines and highlight the work being carried out in laboratories. This Special Issue of the Laboratories journal is multidisciplinary in nature, and it is a platform for scientists, researchers, and laboratory professionals to share their experiences, findings, and visions for the future of laboratory sciences. It is an essential read for anyone interested in the dynamic changes occurring within research and the innovative solutions that promise to drive scientific inquiry for years to come. This Special Issue calls for contributions on, but not limited to, the following topics:
- The role of sustainability in laboratory practices, showcasing how green technologies and waste reduction protocols are being implemented to minimize environmental impact.
- The challenges and opportunities and how laboratories have adapted to ensure continuity in research.
- The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) technologies as one of the most significant drivers of change in the laboratory environment.
- Automated processes incorporated into laboratories for tasks such as sample handling, data collection, and repetitive experiments. The use of robotic systems to perform tasks accurately without human error.
- The incorporation of miniaturised devices, known as lab-on-a-chip or microfluidic platforms for small-scale complex biochemical analysis.
- The influence of quantum computing and its role in revolutionising data analysis by solving complex problems faster than classical computers.
In addition, for more information, the authors can consult the aims and scope of the Laboratories journal. We cordially invite all authors to contribute research articles, reviews, short communication, and case studies that fit the theme of Laboratories.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Laboratories is an international peer-reviewed open access quarterly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1000 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
