Section Information
Cognition is a process of acquiring and understanding knowledge through thought and experience. Cognition encompasses many functions to do with Intelligence. Processes such as perception, attention, knowledge formation, memory, judgment, reasoning, problem-solving and decision-making are all crucial to intelligent behavior.
Metacognition is higher-level “thinking about thinking”, which is another higher-level process related to cognition and intelligence. The current scope of the JoI already includes cognition in the form of cognitive intelligence, cognitive (neuro-)science, and cognitive epidemiology.
