Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
In analyzing the issue of sexual dysfunctions, it is important to pay attention to the fact that sexual health of both women and men is part of reproductive health. Proper sexual development, equal and responsible partner relationships, sexual satisfaction, freedom from diseases, disabilities, sexual dysfunction, violence, and other harmful practices related to sexuality are crucial. According to the WHO, sexual health represents the integration of biological, emotional, intellectual, and social aspects of sexuality important for positive personality development, communication, and love. The concept of reproductive health is closely related to sexual health. It is defined as complete well-being in physical, mental, and social aspects, not merely the absence of diseases and impairments in the reproductive system and its functions throughout all stages of an individual's life. The extraction of this aspect of health was a result of the advancement of knowledge and changes in customs, and thus the evolution in the approach to sexuality and human rights, including sexual and reproductive rights. In the context of all sexual dysfunctions, it is important in sexological care that early response, openness to help, and readiness to work on oneself are key steps towards improving fertility as well as the quality of life and sexual health, as well as reproductive health. Prevention plays a significant role here - factors such as overweight, obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and the increasingly common occurrence of metabolic syndrome, chronic kidney disease, and cancer can negatively impact sexual health and fertility (reproductive health). Some of these conditions may arise from a poor lifestyle.
