Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Pemphigus, a potentially fatal disease, is still a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge for dermatologists. The introduction of corticosteroids and immunosuppressive drugs in the second half of the 20th century was a milestone in the treatment of pemphigus, but patients treated with this method develop severe systemic complications. The introduction of biological drugs in therapy significantly reduces the complications of aggressive immunosuppression and also contributes to the high effectiveness of the therapy. The list of biological drugs used in the treatment of pemphigus is constantly expanding, and progress in understanding the pathogenesis of pemphigus continues to provide new opportunities to control complex autoimmune processes. Understanding and characterizing the antigens recognized by pemphigus autoantibodies provides a basis not only for modern diagnostics, but also for distinguishing different forms of pemphigus with different clinical courses and responses to treatment. The aim of this Special Issue is to increase awareness of pemphigus and to foster the development of ideal treatments. The articles submitted to this project can be in the form of reviews, original research, or clinical trials related to pemphigus.
