Special Issue Information
Dear colleagues,
Research in hyperuricemia and gout has made tremendous progress since the turn of the century. Essentially all facets of this, the most common inflammatory rheumatic disease, have been reworked. The inflammasome discovery clarified the long unexplained clinical behavior of gout, while the whole genome assessments for urate-associated loci and the first studies on the epigenetics of gout and hyperuricemia expanded our knowledge of the pathogenesis. We started better appreciating the role and prognostic significance of hyperuricemia within the family of metabolic disorders. Our diagnostic arsenal for clinical gout has incredibly expanded as well, with musculoskeletal ultrasound becoming the leading bed-side diagnostic tool and dual-energy computed tomography being able to demonstrate and quantify deposits of the uric acid in previously inaccessible locations. Finally, extensive research on the different aspects of hyperuricemia and gout treatment, including both dietary recommendations and usage of newer medicines, such as febuxostat or uricase, has recently been published. The appearance of such an extensive bulk of new data in the field of gout has recently triggered the announcement of new guidelines on its management. This Special Issue aims to highlight the broad spectrum of recent advances in the field of gout and hyperuricemia.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers).
